Do you have something to confess? All cases I have heard about, please disapear off the face of SL when they get caught.

You pretty much have to crash the grid - repeatedly - to get permabanned. I find it hard to believe that one particular part of the ToS exercises LL so much more than all of the rest of it.

Hmm perhaps stuff has changed. I remember when the first instance o this was made public, the person got a perm ban. I guess they give more then 3 strikes now a days.

Nah, I'm pretty sure it wasn't that either. I don't want to go into too much detail, but the one was completely oblivious to the other spying on him.

Where can I get a "scanner" that I can wear to alert me of these things? Also, I use sl on a Mac and the surl's never work for me. So a name I can look up would be ideal. I'm not really worried about people hearing what I say, because as another poster said, it's usually not too terribly interesting. But I think if someone was spying, finding that out would tell me a lot more about them then their spying would ever reveal about me.

While it might not be the most efficient to wear at all times, I would sugest you do a search in the find menu for a place called Script-Foo. Should turn up 2 results. Both have the item. The item your looking for is called Scan-Foo. While wearing or rezzing this you can tell it to search for active scripts. Anything that listens to commands or any chat is always active.

Also this tool can be used to detect laggy objects and scripts. To help you determin the cause of the current sims lag. Thats what it was originally made for but its also good to uncover chat bugs. XD

Opinion:

I sincerely and totally doubt that entirely, and with zero reservation.

Question:

If I am on my land, and I use the "land" thingie to see if someone else's objects are on it, and there are none, would I be save in concluding that no chat copier would be on my land? (Not that one would turn up anything good at all, really, lol.)

Or is there a way to put these on your land so that you can't find them and they don't show up on the "objects" tab of the land thingie?

Yes it's possible IF the object employed something like an autorezzer with a die and the object was set to temp on rezz but replicated one or two every so many seconds or minutes.

I still don't see why the jerks that make these things are allowed to sell them on the open market. It's like selling an assault rifle to just anyone off the stree....

And yes, it *is* possible to listen in on IM's and I will AR the first person to hint at the details of how to do it.

I've never scanned anyone's chat.

It must make a person miserable to worry about people listening in and recording their inworld chat. I find it much easier to simply not do or say things in Second Life I don't want other people to see or hear.

I did once create what i called a security drone. It allowed me to communicate with whoever was around it. i could sit some place in the sim and allow it to control my movements. I would move it around the sim and talk through it to people and hear them reply. BUT I DIDNT build it to be a chat bug hehe.
