YES, it is convient,

but

I no longer stumble across interesting places whilst flying from hub to destination

and

friends drop in on me unannounced.

Well, tell your friends to bugger off, and get out and explore, you lazy arse.

Then turn of TP on your land and start flying everywhere.

Ditto. No one is making you P2P places. You can fly around all you like and make it so people can't tp to your land if you don't want them to. There really is no issue here...

Perhaps it's peer pressure. People who saw you flying gracefully like magic, immersed in a delightful gravityless fantasy, indulging yourself in a dream of flying you had since your first comiic book, enjoying seeing all sorts of beautiful sights, might think your were crazy.

I tend to find that after I go to a particular destination via P2P, that I like to explore. It's kind of the reverse from the forced exploration of the telehubs, thus it is much more enjoyable.

That's what I've found myself doing now, Cristiano. Before it was forced exploration. Now I choose when I explore and where, which I really like. And I've still stumbled across some cool places, actually more than before since I'm not shooting straight up into the air as soon as I arrive at a telehub any more.

I've found that with P2P I save a lot of time - Checking out 3 stores looking for an item takes 5 minutes instead of 15 minutes flying to each destination. Since getting from point A to point B doesn't involve a 5-minute trek through rezzin' terrain, I have much more time left afterwards to spend wandering aimlessly around the world and exploring. Or doing whatever else I want to with that time.

Quick plug: I have something called a Hangcape from... a company that I can't remember right now, which does really extravagant boosted jumps. You put it on, type "/51 3" and, well, you'll end up somewhere different, and if that's not interesting enough, just do it again.

Or try out your latest vehicle. Or just fly. It's not hard.

Exactly! It is a reverse, that's a good way of putting it.

P2P has been wonderful for me! In all ways.

P.S. And yes, shopping, too! It's much nicer for me now to decide I want to see something - like the Damani houses, or Siggy's swimmer thingie, both of which I went to see just last night. For someone who can't see beyond 64 m, and who has lag and movement trouble all the time (old computer), this has been a wonderful liberation for me. And when I'm actually shopping, it is great just to pop in from one place to another with no hassle!

It's wonderful to the point of almost being like if you couldn't walk in real life and suddenly you were healed. (Almost.)

Well, it would be interesting to have a toggle to lock you to the Infohubs when TPing, if you wanted to do so. It could be an "old skool" mode or somesuch thing.

Yes, that would be good, Torley.

But I must say, with the new maps - with all their detail - and the P2P'ing, I'm just totally freed up from the way things were when I first joined SL.

For the Infohubs, it's easy to see their little symbols on the map.

This P2P'ing, combined with the map, just makes the whole game so much more adventurous for me.

I was happy with hub teleporting, however, really excited about p2p still. I just like the convenience of it. I like not being forced through a bunch of land if I don't want to.

I explore MORE not because I can pop directly(-ish) to destinations. Lately I've been plunking down my spindrift and exploring the waterways (when assholes haven't built over it or added something to eject you, the assholes).

Yeah. the instant-p2p to freind feature can be a little grating. I know I've used it to stalk a couple of people who weren't savvy to things like Proximity Detectors or... for that matter.. the Mini-map :D Perhaps... a '{Av Name} would like to Teleport to your location, accept?' dialogue or something similar.

haha, burke!

I enjoy adventuring this way because it is not as blind as before. I can see more on the map than I ever could actually in the world, so what I do is this: I look on the map until something looks interesting, then I pop over to it. (Making sure I pop far enough away from any green dots so as not to induce a heart attack in them by my sudden appearance.) Then from there I explore around to further areas till I get bored. Just relying on being able to actually see these things from wherever I am, forget it, with 64 draw distance. Much better to check out something that looks good on the map.

As far as people popping in to see me, well, I basically like that anyway. If I am on some kind of a project with a deadline (which doesn't happen often), I just tell people that; otherwise, I enjoy the company while building.

I never cared for being forced to fly 900 meters, getting stuck in flying houses that rezzed in my path, just to go to a shop. When I want to explore I hop in my hot air balloon and just lazily float across the landscape looking for kool stuff.

....also don't forget that those horrible security systems that teleport you home or crash your client can't stop you getting where you want now. The only problem I have with p2p is that it's easier to shop and spend more!
