Once again we have a weekly so-called improvement.
But thsi time the screw-up has been total and we have had 2 outages since dowmloading the new software. WHEN oh WHEN will LInden realise that we are not interested in 'better camera angles' and all the rest of the techie crap and simply wish to get on with the Second Lives for which we are PAYING?
Stop all these so-called 'improvements'! Just carry on taking our money, Linden, and keep out of it.
Be satisfied with that and leave us alone with the second life you have provided. Its okay, right? Stop effing well dabbling in further development, we don't need it.
When She created the unifverse, She rested on the seventh day. Why don't you?

Progress is the name of the database system we use at work... but I do agree with all you say Anima. Lots of new shiny features that distract people away from the real problems do not solve the problems, they just make new additional ones. Lewis

Byee! Anima Graff I oppose your thread because your religious beliefs obviously comflict with mine. There, how did that feel? Everyone has different opinions. Griping because LL doesn't listen exactly to what you sayon a message board stands merely as an opinion. If you want some backing...then quit. If people are continuing to join even though there's whining on the boards, that obviously shows a statistical conflict, and the hard numbers are going to be what LL listens to more.

I'm not averse to change, but LL's development plan (if there is one) and deployment method needs serious work. Inadequate testing, apparently wasting programmer resources (what useful features could the snapshot programmers have worked on instead?) and inadequate testing are just three of the problems. Updates aren't in Preview for all that long, and when they are they don't seem to get main-grid features rolled in and tested before release, they just get rolled in and thrown out assuming it'll be fine, when time and time again it is not.
If these updates were things that were really improving things in terms of performance, or by adding really useful features that make a big difference to functionality we use all the time then I'd be of a different tune. But screenshots were perfectly fine before, just save to disk and it's all good, remove HUD stuff and it would have been fine as-is. More advanced tools for managing objects on parcels would be nice, rather than a novelty screen-shot change.

First one to say World of Warcraft does gets laughed at.

I don't want LL to freeze the current code and stop updating it.
We need these new features. Um, no, not the new snapshot stuff, but the other changes coming down the pipeline. Ban name limits increased, group management expanded, script functionality extended. I want these things and think they would make SL a better world/game.
However, every update that LL performs makes me cringe. The grid yoyos for a day or two, stuff that was previously working just fine suddenly doesn't anymore, and new bugs are introduced -- usually in parts of the viewer that seem to have nothing to do with what was changed.
Now, when it comes to updates, I just pretend SL doesn't exist for a day or two.

And who the heck are you to speak for me? *I* am part of that *we*, and I want better camera angles and some of that "techie stuff". Just because you neither understand nor use it does not mean that it is not wanted by others.

I'd prefer to use a program that gets updated a lot than to have to memorize workarounds to problems.

Then LL should change that trend, because this isn't a performance record to be proud of so far, and mainly from the simple error of releasong an update whenever they please with a bare minimum of testing. I've seen previews go through with bugs that get reported but are left untouched, or which are fixed and break something else. Yet instead of keeping at it until those reports disappear and testers can say "haven't seen any more bugs" (then merging with the main-grid code and testing that for another week or two for good measure), they are just saying to themselves "Preview on 11th, release on 21st, fix things in between and hope it's enough even though every time before it hasn't worked like that" by all evidence. While there is a certain adrenaline rush to having something go horribly wrong and then have to race to fix it, a company shouldn't be running on a supply of adrenaline when people are counting on things working when they want them to. Updates don't need to be a wednesday, updates in fact should not be determined by what day of the week it is, but should be released when they are ready for release.

Byee! Anima Graff It is people like you who make all us furries seem so unthankful and unappreciative. Could you just be happy with what they are doing. At least they give a damn enough to not close the whole damn site off and say "Oh freaking well". As for having the blackouts....omg....if the slight blackouts affect you that much...you really really really need to get a life. Remember...you have your RL to participate in. And thanks againt for being a major blockhead and bringing religion into your post...how smart is that? As for you being the reason most furries are thought of as unthankful and unappreciative....I think you only started this whole conversation just so you could have something to complain about...it is people like you who just need something to complain about that raise a ruckus over nothing.

Updates don't need to be a wednesday, updates in fact should not be determined by what day of the week it is, but should be released when they are ready for release. Actually.... In the 8 months I played World of Warcraft, I was reimbursed for 12 days in which the servers were down for more than 12 hours straight, not to include whole days in which the login servers were downright sluggish or not working, the 8+ hour weekly maintenances, occasional realm seizures and restarts, and some realms that spent a few hours every day down. Anarchy Online: they keep shipping out expansions, and there's parts of the core game (ie: skills, attributes) that still didn't even work.

Picture, if you will, a scientific lab filled with men in lab coats sitting at computers and working on computer programming. There is a large window where people can see into this lab, however, the door is always locked and no one ever gets in. A crowd of people gather at the window looking in on the people in lab coats working on the computer. This crowd begins to thump on the glass attempting to get the attention of those inside. Theys shout out statements like "Enhansed User Land Tools!", "Better Object Modifying Tools", "a better way to handle people who continually grief", etc. Inside very faint muffled sounds can be heard but are ignored by the people in lab coats working at the computer when out of nowhere someone jumps up.. "HEY!! I just made a new interface to take screenshots!!!" Everyone in lab coats applaudes and gathers round and watches as this new feature is shown. "We'll get it into the next update. Put it on test now and Wednesday we'll put this in." All the lab coat people go back to their tables and start back at thier computers... again the faint murmurs of those outside pounding on the window trying to gain their attention go unheard... *Huggles* Sav

From: Koto McArdle As for having the blackouts....omg....if the slight blackouts affect you that much...you really really really need to get a life. Perhaps you forget that 8 hours is not a "slight", then it goes down again just a few hours later for who knows how long. Also, in the UK, it is now 11.15pm so most of our evening's game time has disappeared. Which, could be a whole day's work... or business... or events planned... or disrupted arrangements... etc etc. Some people treat SL as more than just a "way of making money", for some its the social life because real life circumstances, through illness or disability, prevent them going out and doing stuff that you might just take for granted. It happens ever day...every....dam.....day. We dont need screenshots...we need.....better things....and yes screenshots are in fact useful (my walls are full of my mate and I) But we should take care of the Big problems that can actually harm us than the little ones that can give us an occasional mosquito bite.
