I encourage the Blumfieldians to get organized and begin building a quarantine wall. I hear Ws have NewbieCooties.

I wonder though how much Blumfieldian feedback was gathered? Nothing really seems different. One of the biggest requests/complaints I heard when talking to people there was lack of central public space/town center, which could help create a more community feeling.

As an aside, why are people calling it West Haven? From what I see it's called W. Like the hotel.

You, sir, are an obtuse fool.

Oh well. (shrug)

 So glad we could come to a consensus.

<quote> Giving zoning and housing to new members while refusing the same to everyone else unless they're willing to spring for their own sim is just stupidity <quote>

Here. Here. I have been in SL a few weeks and met many very nice people. But I find it amazing that it's so hard to get a nice quiet place to live and build, with neighbors interested in being creative and fun. It is so much work to learn and follow all the new names and rules. I do not fully understand that there are others in Shermerville?? with land given to them while others like me have to get dressed in public squares. ;-) Oh well... I have 10,000 L budget, but I am hoping to wait for first land. Zoning is my first priority.

In any case, I was hoping that the system would get itself straight. There are ways of making sure scripts don't buy land, mortality-checkers. I hope they get it figured out.

I have lots of flowers and trees to plant and a waterfall...

As with most Linden experiments, the point here is that if these suburb sims are successful (and they seem to be), then it would behoove land barons (Shaun, Anshe, Adam, whoever) to make some of their Sims suburban; not only suburban, but with amenities and landscaping that far surpasses the Linden land.

That's the point. The lindens want the big players to go "hey, I can make money by making suburbs", and then they do it, and then it becomes a self-replicating meme.

Rarely works out like that, though.

Blumfield lots were offered to people as part of a promotion to get them to go premium. If you went premium, you got land and a house in this sim, and the same thing when West Haven opened.

Now they have these four other sims, the Shermerville ones, which I believe are for basics for a period of time? Or something, having to do with basics. I'd have to look again at wherever I found that info. So you would have to be a basic and know about these, and I don't know what all other qualifications, but that is how people get those.

Anyway, that's why they got them free. It's all to get basics to turn premium, and from what you say, I guess you are already a premium. Prior to that, there was a promotion where you could select one of six free items, and if you became a premium during that time period, you got the item as a bonus.

Unfortunately, they did NOT give the zoning to the Blumfield residents or the other sims to go along with this. This was a disappointment to me and to the residents of Blumfield.

However, they are telling us they are working on new land tools or something, which will presumably allow residents everywhere to create zoning coalitions of their own. So we'll see.

I am basic. I joined 2/9. I have read about Shermerville (sp?) but do not know how to get land as part of this program. I think it would be great to join such a progam. When I say I have a budget of 10,000 Lindens means that if I get tired of waiting for First Land and I have to buy it, I will use that for land. But I am saving for the annual membership and would rather continue saving for that.

If you have directions for a basic, and how they could join this program, I'm interested.

I don't, but Lauren Linden probably would. And maybe there is more info on it on the website here somewhere.

I have read all over this site, and IM'd Laren when she was offline, anway I don't mean to whine. Some benefits to waiting I'm sure.

I gather that this was just a marketing experiment and I'm in the control group. So not exactly community-ish but facts are facts...

Lots to learn. Thanks for answering.
