FIC OMGz!

I just wanted to post a correction on the term, “FIC” and what it is, that I made back in this post where I defined what FIC specifically was.

After talking to someone and getting things straight (talking to someone “FIC”) I have this info, meant for those who see it talked about on the forums and have no clue what it really is.

Those who are considered “FIC” are those residents who beta tested Second Life more than 3 years ago. These testers were given as a reward FREE lifetime membership with a FREE 1/4 SIM land allowance before any land use fees kicked in. It should be noted, however, that NOT ALL beta testers made it into the FIC column. It was mentioned to me that a number of beta testers were simply refused this reward by Linden Lab to some of the beta testers (for whatever reason Linden Lab chose). So you see the term FIC specifically is designated for the lucky few to have beta tested SL over 3 years ago AND been lucky enough to have been awarded by Linden Lab. They are long time residents who have seen Second Life transform from what they knew back then to what it is now.

For this reason some people claim FIC have a large say in what direction Linden Lab goes. As for me, I still stand by “Is FIC an actual club? *shrugs* I don't know if they banded together to form a secret group *cough*freemasons*cough* but again, it doesn't matter to me. I simply don't care if they did or didn't.”

It needs to be noted that “Charter Members” are not necessarily FIC. Charter Members became this way in a special one time offering by Linden Labs. Some FIC took advantage of this offering and are Charter Members as well, however the Charter member in the account area has no bearing on whether someone is FIC or not.

At least now you know who FIC are, according to the person I spoke to.

You might want to try getting some facts straight - it looks like your source was grossly misinformed, or a member of the paranoid delusional camp that worships at the altar of the person who coined the ridiculous term.

First off, no one got free accounts with 1/4 sim tier. Beta accounts received a tiny free tier - I'm thinking, maybe, 512 meters.

Lifetime accounts had to be PURCHASED - for a lot of money - at high risk. They could be purchased at the end of beta, and then a period afterwards, for $225 (pre v1.2), and included a tier of 4096 meters - 1/16th of a sim.

Also, FIC members didn't necessarily have to be in beta. In fact, the evil leader herself, Aimee Weber, didn't join until 2004. Torley didn't join until much later, yet is probably the best known resident of all time.

You *really* want to know what the FIC is? It's an excuse to make some paranoid people who need attention feel like a superhero, uncovering the evils of a world where lack of success has nothing to do with talent, but because of others' shady dealings.

No, that's not right at all. I know because I heard it from a friend of a friend's sister that the FIC actually took over LL two years ago and just invented the Lindens we think we know today to conceal their power. Also, they secretly gain control over our computers via our avatars and are using that to spread their ever-increasing network of power.

The story behind "FIC" seems to be assuming Urban Legend status! I know I sure had to pay for my lifetime account.

Although the original post was totally incorrect, it sure was entertaining!

FIC is just a general label applied to those with lots of (percieved) power.
This isn't to say that there is no FIC. Personaly, I think that there are Residents that wield more power than others, and I have no idea if they've teamed up to take over the gird or not.

It's rare to actually see an FIC avatar on the grid these days. Most of them hang out on the new deep space sims that are plotted out on a 3D grid and have no gravity. If you're extremely clever, you might find the spaceship beneath Governor Linden's mansion, and impossibly clever, guess the password, but you'll just end up getting booted back to the main grid and the ship's password will be changed.

Er... okay... a little off topic... Freemasons don't rule the world. Any sway they had in the past is in the past, and any powerful members now are pretty much just like... if the president has one of those Sub Club punchcards. Sub Club doesn't rule the world, the president just enjoys sandwhiches.
My dad is a freemason, his father was a free mason, his father's father.... And you know what? He's a truck dispatcher. I make almost as much as he does in my summer job of filing and staring at these forums all day. He's hardly a mover and shaker of the free world elite, and neither is anyone he knows through them and the legions in north america.
Conspiracy theories like that, like FIC, like all of them, are largely fictionalized, and the legends hold more sway than the actual groups.
