I agree that we do see the same names over and over often, but I can only speak for PXP (because I write for them) and the reason is that: WE ACTUALLY POST WHAT WE LIKE, not everything that comes out... New products is there for that.
Not our fault if well known people keep putting out very impressive stuff! LOL

But as Canimal pointed, don't know for others, but we pulled many new designers or unknown stuff out of the hole.
Actually, I have a column that is called "elka finds" and it's dedicated EXACTLY to that, stuff you don't hear about. So far I only got the time to post two, but it will come.
I have interviewed a totally unknown hair designer that is as good as all the big ones, and I can't wait to finish my article. I blogged about {JUNK} jewels, that are 100% new.
I blogged about that Egyptian boutique where they sell vases, totally unknown... etc.
When you put out something that make our jaws fall, rest assured that we will blog too!
That's how it goes or then we'd just become a place where we say "ok look this is out" instead of "this is what i like, because, and etc" : )

:-)) Dident you spell EXACTLY wrong? :-)))) *smiles...* sorry sorry cant stop myself sometimes*

/Tina - That love the statement ”WE ACTUALLY POST WHAT WE LIKE, not everything that comes out...”

Heya! Totally missed this thread until it turned up in our referral logs. Oops.

Anyway, it's really encouraging to see how many people are interested in reading off-world commentary about in-world fashion. I really wasn't sure there would be uptake - I didn't know if designers would want to send stuff in for review, didn't know if people would be interested in reading - but I've been delighted by how enthusiastic people on both sides have been.

I am loving that there's a little off-world fashion industry all of a sudden. The mix of designers who are blogging about their own products, designers blogging about other people's products, and review sites is an exciting mix. And I think it's particularly cool these blogs are being read - not just written - by such notable SL designers. That rocks!

I've already got most of the sites listed here linked up on our Links sidebar, and will update soon to add the ones I missed. But I think a links repository is a good idea too. I'll work on that with input from everyone else if there's interest and someone else isn't already doing it :)

Just so you know, I'm not psychic - I can't cover your stuff if I don't know you're out there! On our blog, in our SLX announcement post, and in our SL forums announcement post, we invited anyone to send us a landmark or drop stuff on us. The Submit Your Stuff link is on the upper right of every page on our site:

http://lindenlifestyles.com/?page_id=6

In no way do I have a "heck with the new designers" attitude - I love (and prefer) to promote great new finds rather than tread the same popular ground over again. Just looking at our current front page posts, I'd never come across Moon Godess, Adri, Jeepers Creepers or Retro Rama before we blogged them. But then, outside the Big Ten, I don't really know who's popular, or care that much, and I never trawl the forums for content.

But if you're new, or want exposure, you need to promote yourself. Speaking for Linden Lifestyles, we'd be happy to hear from you!

How to Get Noticed
05-01-2006 11:09
As for new designers getting blogged or reported on, a lot of getting noticed is self-promotion, self-promotion, self-promotion. Develop an advertising budget that includes time and funds. Put together some ads, some ad copy, some press-releases. Talk with the people who are doing the writing and see if they're interested in writing about you, your designs, or your methodology. There are so many designers, stores, and vendor spaces in SL that you can't expect any one publication to go out and find all of it, sift through it for what's newsworthy, and then still have time to enjoy their days and nights, in and out of SL.

My store, Designs by ~* Adri *~ has been open for a week and two days. Sabrina blogged a couple of my designs because I contacted her, admittedly about something related to LindenLifestyles and not my store, but I mentioned I was a new designer, and opening a store, and she jumped on the opportunity to check out my stuff. I've done one interview for the SL Herald, and I'm told that article should be up this week. The Herald reporter found me through my 'Grand Opening' classifieds listing. I've talked with representatives from the M2 and Second Style, both, and hope that at some point my designs will be covered in those publications as well-- in the mean time, at least they know I exist. :)

So much of a successful business venture, any business, is getting noticed, getting your name out there, and maintaining good relationships with the press that covers your particular industry. So, new designers and those of you feeling unnoticed? Take out a classified ad, hold an event, post on the forums (here, at the SLEx, at SL Universe, at sl.me.com, anywhere you can find that's an appropriate venue), send something to Salome and Sabrina, sponsor a publication, something to put your brand on the radar. But don't expect the publications to come to you when you're brand new and just a face in the crowd of new designers SL sees every day. Talent will keep you on the radar, but jumping up and down and waving your arms and making noise will get you there in the first place.

I have to echo the other creator's of the fashion sites when it comes to new designers: we try to cover as much as we can but we have to know about new designers to write about them. And we are concious of trying to avoid only writing about the same well-known designers.

In our magazine (Second Style) we have started a new column for "Fresh Faces" in the upcoming issue. Also in our major theme features we try to seek out at least 1 or 2 lesser known designer's items. We are going to start listing upcoming features so designers can submit creations for us to see.

I'm not trying to toot our horn, just want to let designers know how they can get more exposure with the various fashion publications.

I would also like to point out the interesting fact that all these fashion sources are not competing with each other but cooperating. All the sites Torrid mentioned are linked to each other, and we feature content in our magazine from Lo's, Barnes', and Sabrina's sites.
