Suggestion:

Looking at it again just now, it would seem that "General" and "Sandbox" should be at the top of its section, followed by the others.

I don't like the new arrangement.

It's a typical Linden mess, faffing about with something that did not need changing, whilst ignoring the many things that do need work.

Lewis

Yes and god knows that the people capable of changing around some settings on a web page are the exact same developers that could be programming Havok and bug fixing  I swear people will bitch about the most ridiculous things.

I love the reorganization! Thanks to Torley, Dyne, Eep and other fellow residents and Lindens involved.

the thing i don't like is all the editing. all the history that was in the res mod forum was deleted. why? there were genuine issues in there and things changed because of those discussions. its just as much a part of the history of that forum as the thank you thread and frankly i think its a big disingenuous of you to leave the thank you thread and take out all the others.

Question:

You mean they just deleted a bunch of it? It does seem shorter. But there are anti-resmod threads, as it were, still in there.

Although I am interested in this topic, I am also quite curious about the new headers you are using on your posts.

Although I am interested in this topic, I am also quite curious about the new headers you are using on your posts.

Answer (includes personal opinion):

Though the headers are totally obnoxious and annoying to me, they serve to (a) keep me in line (which is where I am supposed to stay) and (b) make it harder for people to AR me out of existance.

Pretty much the headers insure a sort of extra safety step built in so that I won't be drawn into things with people, such as when being told I have a "creepy fixation" on them; won't reply to people; won't get involved in any actual conversations (with few exceptions, such as this one to you, but you're special!); won't talk but the minimum (except, again, in this case); and will take a strong look at anything I label "opinion" to make sure as best as possible that it is an opinion I will be allowed to say, and not one which I'm not allowed to say.

It also serves to clarify my posts for the purposes of the resmods/Lindens. It's either that or not post on SL forums at all, if I want to stay in the game.

coco

P.S. Fact: That reminds me, I'm still posting on the wrong name here, which I happened to be on when I was changing passwords. I prefer to post as Cookie, and will soon. Headers and all.

Hey, dont you know that this took Torley away from her job of placing Havok 3 in the code, of course she is doing that all the way from Canada.

Becky, trying to keep a straight face. :D

Less is more. In rl I run a number of websites and am a web developer/architect for the company I work for. I have online communities that have hundreds of thousands of posts and have been around for a number of years. In my experience, which is contrary to what you'd initially think, the number of forums should be as small as possible. It's much faster, easier to understand and you're far more likely to have people find threads since they don't have to dig around through all the various forums. And if people find threads they respond to them and it improves the conversation and flow of the site in general.

Having the "New Posts" option helps, but I still find that having tons of highly focused specialty forums will splinter the community and reduce participation.

Now having said all that, I'm hooked on the sl forums already, so it's not like they're bad! :-) But it's just a thought.

Cheers,

With the sheer number of posts in these forums across such a wide spectrum, the less is more approach would definitely not work. While I do think a few of the subdivisions are overkill, having some very specific forums for things like animations, scripting, building, etc... are very important, as you know exactly where to look to ask questions and find answers. If there were just a more general content creation forum, it would quickly become an unruly mess. The same for the classified forums as well. All in all, I think they have found a pretty good structure for serving the needs of such a diverse community.

Welcome by the way :)
