OMG! I paid all that money for Flux and now you are rereleasing it?

I am going to cancel my SL, DSL, ISP, ESP, VD, and XP in protest.

(edit to add I never bought a Flux and this post was in jest)

Well, the RFL flux would be just one more copy, with one of a kind additions for the auction, right? it's not like you're rereleasing it at all. it's one copy. You're not profiting from it, it's going to charity. As long as it's not the same outfit going out for general sale, people shouldn't care. it's going to charity. The fact it's a special version of a special release gives it even more fundraising potential.

ANYONE that would be upset over you donating ONE of your (let me add VIRTUAL) collector creations so that money could be raised to save very real lives has my sympathy.

Either something is a Limited Edition or not. The fact that this is a great cause or that some people think it's all nonsense anyway isn't a slam dunk reason to do this.

The reasons used for breaking a covenant between two parties doesn't change the fact that the covenant has been broken. Maybe those people don't care, maybe they do. If they do, they have a right to, whether we think they should be more considerate of the goal Torrid is trying to achieve with this or whether we think they are stupid to feel that way about virtual clothing.

My condolences, Rose.

I agree that I have Flux and I wouldn't mind this happening, it's all for a good cause!

If it was a one off item you'd created for someone, or even a 20 only limited edition or something that someone paid a lot for, I might say a bit iffy, but hell, it was on sale for a month! A long time in the LTD Edition world.

Saying all that, I do see both sides of the coin on this one and can see why people would be upset, while I am personally all for it, and I understand that this is a really hard desicion as a designer for you.

Whatever goes up, i'm there to bid on it :D <3

Yes, it's more than fine to break one's word for a good cause. What does things like integrity and reliability mean? Nothing, not when there's a chance to do a good deed with it.

*ahem*

Now for the serious reply.

If a product is sold as a 'limited edition', then it's an affirmation that you'll be limiting the number of copies sold. Frequently limited editions are also sold as a signifant premium value. At the very least, re-releasing more copies of that edition not only reduces the value of the items, but it's also a form of the bait-and-switch scam. You've taken their increased-value money, only to then degrade the value of their bought item.

My own opinion is to say make a variation that is unique enough to be original in of itself, make a whole new design, or contact the purchasers to see if they're ok with more copies being released. Breaking your word on the promise of them being limited only tells future customers that you'd be willing to compromise your morals, given a 'good enough reason'.

Ty Gabe, anytime one uses the "ALL" word, one causes a counter point to be stated.
As I said it was my personal opinion and take it with a grain of salt. They can feel as they want, I just stated they have my sympathy.

I think the fact that Torrid has to asks, answers her own question. She shouldn't do it.

Again, my apologies if I'm coming off short. If I had the outfit, I would donate my own copy myself if that would solve her problem and if its no transfer, I would delete it so she could send a copy in my name. I know Elkapedia has been getting alot of my lindens from me and my unverified, unpaid, underaged, griefing alt. :-) (that was meant to be humor.)

This is very close to my heart right now. Pancreatic cancer does NOT show symptoms until its too late. There is no blood test, no skin test, not even a routine GI test. My dad was just in to have pollups removed from his colon that were benign. He had physicals every 6 months...never drank or smoke, and was very physically active. It was like a time bomb went off in him.

Thanks for letting me vent. Please no one take it personally.

As much as I would have liked to have a special edition of Flux for the auction, there's just too much negativity involved in doing so. I would never want to take away from Relay For Life, nor would I want to upset customers who purchased Flux originally. I plan to do something new for the auction if time allows me to.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts on this and Rose I'm very sorry for your loss, I know it must be very difficult for you:(. I am grateful that I'm able to help in the fight against cancer, even if a small amount, by contributing to Relay For Life.

Frankly the sad thing is a few people misguided opinions about what constitutes integrity have prevented you from doing something wonderful. INtegrity without compassion is pointless, and you have tossed away compassion to feel better because a few people said they personally think a limited edition is some absolute promise. They are either greedy or lack compassion themsleves, in either case I would not want to use them as my moral compass.

Frankly my personal intergrity would be compromised more by pandering to the opinions of others than by simply doing what is right. I suppose, in a way, the biggest compromise of your integrity in my book was aasking the question to begin with.

Frankly what makes the outfit have value enough to put at an auction is the fact that it was a limited edition. It allows some sould the privedlge of paying a lot of money to join an exclusive club. This is not a re-release, this adding one to the population of a limited edition. That does not change the limited nature of the original outfit, nor does it make it any less special.

Any anyone who says you are somehow compromising you integrity by putting this in an auction for charity is missing the point entirely. Doen't listen to them, they will have given only bad advice.

Midnight Ma Chere, it has been a Long time. :)

If you make your outfit available WITH extras it never had before, it could be Called Anniversary, or Special edition.

In Publishing Limited edition books, There are Always additional copies with unique features that are NOT part of the Numbered run, These are called printers editions, and usually sell for MORE than the Limited run.

The same can be held true for new editions of clothing, Make them Unique, Each one different from the other, and Each different from the Original Flux run and you will not be stepping on any Toes.

Come and See me In game chere.

Angel.
