This will probably get moved but I honestly am not sure where to put it. I'm faced with a decision about something and I need opinions. Back in December of last year myself, Mistress Midnight, and Launa Fauna sold an outfit called "Flux" for a limited time of one month and took it down never to be sold again. There will be a silent auction for Relay For Life which benefits the American Cancer Society on July 22nd and 23rd. It has been suggested to me by more than a few people that we allow one copy of the "Flux" outfit to be auctioned with perhaps a few extra things added to it.
Here is where the decision comes in. I'm hearing from someone that this may cause problems because it was a limited edition. The last thing I would want to do is have anyone who purchased the outfit feel like they're being cheated. I personally don't feel like it's wrong and that it's a one time special deal for charity, especially with there being things added to it. I could understand if we took the outfit and started selling it again but that's not the case.
So, what does everyone think? How would you feel about it?

I think you could 'safely' make a modified outfit called 'Flux2' with a even more limited run (maybe 10 copies max) that are only available through the auction. You wouldn't ruin the limited nature of the previous run, and you would create a new collectable, as long as it was transfer.

It's your outfit, do as you feel is fair and right. We are the customers. Honestly tho, add to it, make it special for the occassion and may you get a good price for it all in the name of charity - breast cancer research! Go for it!

I bought Flux, and don't mind if you auction another copy Also, Flux2 outfits sounds great. I'll bid on it. So, either way

See I would feel way too iffy about having more than one copy. At this point it would just be the one with some added items to make it more special.

I think you are doing the right thing create a cooler add on addition to the outfit cal it the flux 2 and auction it to the highest bidder. I dont think anyone in there right mind would object I mean its for RFL and is being done to help people. We all know you are a woman of integrety and honor and above any misdeeds -so go forth, create, auction and help the cause, and bless you all for wanting to help and wanting to do the right thing and being concerned about your customers and humanity as a whole

From: Boliver Oddfellow cal it the flux 2 and auction it to the highest bidder. Not "flux 2"... it's a one-in-existence thing, not really another run, and it's for very specific purpose... RFLux -.o

If it was me, I wouldn't do it. If I said it was limited edition, I mean it.
For what it's worth, I can understand the temptation in this case, because it's for the benefit of charity. I'm reminded of a quote in Antagonistic Protagonist's profile.
"Virtue is to be feared more than vice, because it's excesses are not subject to the regulation of conscience" -Adam Smith
But I wouldn't compromise my integrity for it.

This is what is going to bother me, the majority might think it's a fine idea and there's nothing wrong with it, espcially that it's for charity. Then you have one or two people that tell you it's wrong and you're compromising your integrity. Those two people are going to stand out in my head more than anything and I don't want to bring any bad blood to Relay For Life. At this point I guess it's not likely we'll bring it back for the auction.

Everything is in place to make an exception seem quite reasonable, however your own misgivings might not make it worthwhile for you.

I might point out there's precedent - the re-release of the cyberarmor from Chaos.

Hey Torrid, here's my 2cents, I think since it was a limited edition and as you said, it was to never be sold again, then perhaps people may feel like you are going back on your word... what about releasing the same outfit for this auction, in a different color? Then it wouldnt be the same item...

To me, auctioning off one more item of this limited edition is not breaking any rules since you're not putting it up for sale (unlimited quantities). It's one item for charity. It's fine. Although I wouldn't start making a habit out of releasing this product for any ol' occasion that comes around. As for dealing with those who are against this, two things. One, for your own mind set, the hell with them. It's your product and you can do with it whatever the hell you want to. And, they may have their own selfish agenda for not wanting you to release the product again (even just one item for charity). Two, you'll have to make a business decision as to whether or not it's worth it to piss off the customers who don't like this. You'll have to decide for yourself if it's worth it. HP

Why not create a brand new outfit just for RFL silent auction? Wouldn't that raise even more money because its one of a kind?
Granted, creating a whole outfit is time consuming, but given the cause and the way SLers are responding and donating isn't it worth it?
I do agree with the other posters, though. If you modify the outfit it is no longer the same outfit, especially if you change it somewhat drastically. Mod it up, make it special for RFL and I see no problem.

Do what you feel is right Torrid.
You should not overlook the fact that this brings you enough concern to ask for others opinions though.
IMHO though...Limited edition means limited edition. Which means that after all of the available editions have been sold, there should never be another one of them ever. That is the premise on which they were sold to your loyal customers.
However, I would be willing to compromise my integrity for one time and one time only, in exchange for the outfit. In other words, after you send me the outfit I will sit with you and feed you enough of the "you did the right thing" boo boo talk that you will feel relatively guilt free enough to release not only one, but two additional outfits. That would bring the total number of outfits to just three (mine and the two additionals) over the limited number you initially guaranteed. Three extra outfits is nothing I tell you! And I promise to follow this initial appointment with one additional follow-up appointment should you begin to feel guilty again.
If you should decide not to send me the limited edition outfit however, then I am afraid to say that yes, you are completely wrong for releasing it again.
Good luck in your decision.

Torrid,
If you need other's opinions, then I will have to agree, that you shouldn't do it, and perhaps come up with a unique, for charity outfit that you could also reuse for other such events. One of these released once a year would still make it desirable and auctionable.
This has nothing to do with what others think about the meaning of limited, but it does have everything to do with the conviction in your heart. If you feel it's wrong, the donnation is tainted. Any good you feel for your efforts for donating is immediatly replaced with regret.
You see what I'm saying?
As for my personal opinion (because these R teh FoRUms) ANYONE that would be upset over you donating ONE of your (let me add VIRTUAL) collector creations so that money could be raised to save very real lives has my sympathy. That is spoken by a woman that buried her father just one week ago because of pancreatic cancer. He got 13 weeks from the moment he showed his first symptom. So take my comments as tainted. I'm not getting over his loss anytime too soon. :*(
