Sexual Predators

If at some point the ToS requires me to report violations or suspected violations, then I'll be the first one at the door. Other than that, given that I don't think I'm violating any laws or even the current ToS, I'm not terribly worried about it.

Mmm. Maybe you're right. I'd probably turn them in anyway just to be on the safe side, but you might be just fine not doing it.

Ok, this is how it works, An FBI Agent (Or R.C.M.P. Inspector if, like me, you are in Canada) enters the grid. Poses as a person under age, and places themselves in an area where they feel it Likely an adult will solicit them for sex. When an adult Does solicit them for sex KNOWING this person had made it known they are Underage, a Crime has been committed.
A crime has NOT been committed If an Underage person Hides all facts regarding their true age, and Solicits sex from another person Knowing, or believing that other person to be an adult.(For prosecution to take place the Authorities would have to PROVE the adult in this situation Knowingly engaged in Cyber with a Minor, If all communications appear to be from "Adult" to Adult, Proving a crime here would be next to Impossible.)
A Crime has NOT been committed By an when an FBI agent (Who IS an adult) represents themselves as an Adult seeking age Play.(It's a kink, Not a Crime)
A Crime MAY have been committed if an FBI Agent represents themselves as a Minor, and has sex with someone Claiming to be an adult, who also turns out to be a Minor.(Exactly which of the two has committed the crime in this instance would be a VERY grey area i think.)
The Laws are there Generally to catch the Adults who Knowingly share sexual interactions, or Content with Minors and/or seek to lure said minor into meeting in RL for purposes of engaging in any form of sexual contact.

Now,, SL adult grid is Just that, FOR ADULTS ONLY. Anyone representing themselves as being underage should be reported Immediately, and LL WILL immediately Cancel Both their Adult, and Teen grid memberships. I know this to be true because i have had to report Teens on not less than six seperate occasions. their profiles always Vanish in Under an hour. I AR, Include the youths confession of age, and after i AR, I contact a Linden directly. (And i have on one occasion heard Experienced SL players councelling an underaged person on how to circumvent detection. Both were reported, and removed.) Any other adult on the grid who doesn't do the same Realy is being Irresponsible. Even if their reporting it isn't required under TOS there is a Moral, and ethical obligation to do so..

Regarding age of consent. I understand in the USA, it varies from state to state. In Canada, the age of sexual consent is (Get ready for this) 14. ~Giving you a moment to reign in your astonishment~ It IS however STILL against the Law to expose anyone under the age of 18 to sexually explicit media of any kind. They can do it, they just can't Watch it. So,, these concerns regarding age, and proof of age still apply under Canadian law.
My Byword is caution. as a Matter of Fact, Only once was i Nearly caught by a youth hiding her age. She was convincing, but Before we became Intimate, she said something that set off my alarm bells. I can't remember exactly what now, but i Verbally cornered her, and made her admit age (Unfortunately this was in TSO, and she couldn't be banned just for being fourteen). Narrow escape for me, and a valuable lesson. As careful as i was, i needed to be More-so. To be Honest, in MY experience so far, it isn't so much the teens that need protection from the adults, as it is the Adults who need protection from sexually agressive teens who see Anonymity in SL as their "Big Chance".
In the end however i really do NOT know, Not 100%, but i have done everything within my abilities to Ensure i do not get Intimate with children.
I DO want to see effective age verification in SL. It only makes good sense. But until then i just have to be careful.

Cant say Ive ever heard of someone being arrested for typing porn. I think law enforcement is spending the money staking out the guys driving into town to meet their underage dates. So if some underaged, acne faced, floozey is hitting on you, telling you shes 23 and totally hot, SHAME ON THEM! But doubt the feds are gonna be kicking in your door.
