I would do this as a poll, but I figure no matter what I put in as options, I'm going to miss something major.
So, to the question again... "What, in your opionion, are the most popular item types in SL?"
Now, this can be from a sales-wise perspective, or just your personal observations. I know that where I go alot I see mostly clothing and accesories, followed by scripted items and buildings, but I mostly frequent areas like Caledon, and Steampunk regions.
Also, is there a dominance between one gender over the other? Not just in clothing, but everything as a whole?
I want to hear from you Gors and Furs, too!

Female fashion. DUH!!! *giggles*
As for the scripts, they would, but the inherent problem is you have to understand how to code to make them. Those that can charge prices that no one wants to pay (at least I don't). Charging a lot for a script make sense. The coder worked hard on it and it took a good bit of skill to create it. Balanced agaisnt selling a few at high prices or a lot a lower prices, and I think they'd do better lowering thier prices. *shrugs* But then, I can't script, so whatta I know? *Grins*
Where's the next shoe sale?
~Jessy
P.S. The above about scripts applies to "sexy walk" shoes to me also. I'm not paying an extra 500L$ for something that only works in those shoes. 50L$.....maybe.

I tend to tell people to pay me whatever they think is worth it, I tend to get int he area of 200 for small jobs and some bigger more complicated stuff I'm getting about 2000L especially for anything involving rotations as I f***ing hate rotations.

From: Pyrii Akula Not much call for scripted stuff. I do not agree. Some of the most popular items in Second Life are scripted, and providing functionality though scripting often means you can charge more for your items. If you have the skills to script, and you can provide useful functionality through scripting, I highly recommend exploring this.

If you want to make a lot of money, get into pre-fab homes. There is tons of money in this industry and there are few competitors.
I plan to enter the market today.

Skins would have to be it.
If people are willing to pay 5000 lindens for them, they MUST be very popular

Yeah Desmond is closer to what I am looking for here.
But, If "Dangly Bits" is a category, which I believe it is...
I was thinking that female clothing/attachments was the biggest seller in SL. Followed very closely by the "adult peripherials" market. While I do see alot of prefab houses in SL, the majority of them that I see are freebies.

Shouting genitals are the rage, I hear.
If there was a way to shout louder, over farther distances...they would...my god they would. 100m just isn't enough for some people.

So - you think there's a market for genital shout repeaters, allowing one's invisible furry penis to tell everyone within five sims that it is engorged?
I would exploit this gap, but I fear I would be banished from polite society, and rightly so to be frank.

From: Bernardo rockwell Self-replicating itens as it seems for the last couple days ROFL, Bernardo! Ain't that the truth? I *could* do a shameless plug here and say the most popular items would be the art we sell at The Phoenicia Center for Contemporary Art in Rosemary... But since I am a professional businesswoman with morals I will not do that! ^_^ Seriously, to answer your q, Khashai, it appears women's apparel has got to be one of *the* most popular items... Now, I know some folks would make an argument and say skins, but, I'm not sure about that. Once I got my CMFF skin (and a wonderful investment it was, I must say), it's now a part of me. That is, it won't really need replacing unless I decide to change my avi altogether, which prolly isn't going to happen. Clothing, on the other hand, will *always* be popular, at least with me, as I tend to grow bored easily and have to have a new outfit at least every other week... Perhaps it's just my way of justifying my inner child's desire to play dress up.

The question to ask, if you're market researching, is what are the most demanded and least supplied items in Second Life. Scripted animals, landscaping plants and prefab homes definitely fall into that category.

Scripted animals, landscaping plants and prefab homes definitely fall into that category. Hands down, mens clothes wins this... that is unless you just love wearing blue jeans and t-shirts. Women have oogles of really cool stuff to choose from in almost every shop while the mens section usually consists of 6 items, 4 of which are t-shirts. It amazes me why some really talented clothes designer wouldn't do a bunch of mens stuff and rack up the sales. I only know of one that has any kind of selection.
