Ok, for clothes (shirts, skirts, jeans, dresses, etc) what do you guys prefer? Age old question - no transfer + copyable OR no copy + transfer?! And what are your reasons?

Even if it's basics, I don't mind flipping through folders to mix and match as desired. Formals are something you're very unlikely to need copies of. If I no longer have occasion to wear the outfit, I'd be perfectly happy to give it to a (polite) newbie! Also my girlfriend likes to borrow my clothes all the time, kind of like in real life. <Snickers.>

No Copy/Transfer Reason: When I tire of something (not often but it does happen) I generally give my stuff to new folks to pretty them up and get them out of the icky stock clothes. The only exception is anything prim based (prim skirts, shoes, etc) since I may have to modify it to fit my avie. In that case Copy/No Transfer. |

Depends on the item really. No-trans makes it hard to buy gifts, but if it's for my personal use, I love Copy/Mod so that I can make prims fit my avatar better.

At the moment I sell my things based on my own buying preferences. I sell everything mod/ no copy/ transfer. They can modify them and give them away or resell them at a yard sale or something. If someone makes a special request to have a prim skirt fitted properly or wants something they can copy, I'm always open to doing those things for people.
I don't like clothes to be no transfer. Though when I get around to selling the hair I've been working on, I probably will do those copy/mod/no transfer. _____________________

Lately I've gotten a whole shit load of positive comments about making bathing suit and lingerie clothing on both the Underpants/Undershit and Pants/Shirt layers of clothing, and offering them as the same garment for one price. I wonder how much praise I would still get for having to charge for each version, considering anyone could keep one layer and give the other one away or sell it.
I prefer to by as Copy. Mod. No Transfer, so that's the way I'll keep selling, until LL can protect sellers against reselling for profit. _____________________

I'm so glad you made this thread. I was thinking of making one myself. I make my stuff nocopy/transfer. That's how I like to buy my stuff as well.
As far as prim stuff goes, (and skins for that matter) I like that they are mod/copy/notrans as the obviously need to be for many reasons. BUT, I really wish there was some way one could make them transferable so they could be given away. I have so many skins/hair that I would love to give to someone because I don't see myself needing/wanting/missing them later. |

For making quick change folders, copyable is a good thing. No good for gifts. And if the boots I like were copyable Id save a bundle, much to the detriment of the manufacturer

I prefer clothing be +mod/-copy/+trans. I shop either in alts or for other people too often, and if I have to come back for it later, there is a chance I won't. (I'm actually currently online in one alt on a shopping spree for all of mine.
) I also find I am hesitant to buy -trans clothing ISL because there is no ability to try it on. If I buy +trans clothing and it ends up not working out, at least I can give it to someone who will use it.I do like getting certain things that I would tend to use over and over in +mod/+copy/-trans, such as good texture shoes. (I don't have size zero feet, so I rarely wear prim ones, and I'm always on the lookout for nice texture ones.) |

I like to have the same item of clothing in multiple avatar folders. I don't really care about buying clothes as gifts for others (and if I did, I could just contact the creator, or use the delivery feature of external sites such as slexchange.com.) Therefore, for me, it's GOT to be copy/notrans.
I buy no-copy clothes at Barerose, but only because they have some of the best stuff. Wish they had copy/notrans as an option though. _____________________

my philos. is that if you are going to have clothing Modify, Then it goes hand and hand with No Tranfer, Copy. If you severely *uck up the piece of clothing, you can have a back up. If you like a shirt both in short sleeve and long sleeve versions, having two copies is a huge plus. (same thing with pants/shorts) Some people enjoy recolouring and playing witht he Modify aspect of it, and having a singly copy might deter them because... Well... Thats it! if you *uck up the product you are out the money you payed for... So me and my individualistic perspective I say Copy/No transfer.
Now also as a seller point of view, it becomes beneficial having a monopoly over your product. You are the only one who can offer it, and you dont have to worry about resellers driving the price for it down, OR resellers stealing sales from you. When people are buying there clothing, they have there mind set on who it is for. It is either for themselves, or for a friend. There are ways now that you can implement Name2Key Scripts via http calls to make "buying gifts" easy also. 100% for Modify/Copy/No-Transfer. |

modify/no copy/transfer
I'd much rather be able to give something that I accidentally bought, or something that I've had in my inventory for a long time that I never wear to somebody who would like to have it or somebody who needs it (I.e. a noob). |

For EVERYTHING I prefer Mod/Copy - No Trans . I like to be able to make outfits and I've never run into a situation where a store owner wouldnt send a gift on my behalf. And like jonquille and other designers that do us the favor of adding extra goodies in the packs like clothing on different layers and pre tinted colors etc.. its only fair that they know for sure that only the buyer will get the extra goodies and not split them all over town.

I prefer Copy/No Transfer myself and nearly all my items I make and sell are no Transfer.
I prefer copy so I can always have a backup. I never, ever resell anything in SL and wouldn't dream of it even if it was transferable, so a transferable item is mostly useless to me, whereas having backups, copies and variations is of use to me. If I want to give a gift, I buy the item online at SLBoutique or SLExchange and send it. I just assume these days any item I am buying will be no transfer. If the seller doesn't offer the item for sale on one of the major websites for me to send as a gift, likely they didn't much want my money. _____________________

I much prefer copy/mod no transfer, for all of the above given reasons.
Another excellent one is when the asset server is croaking, a vendor is broken, lost connection, etc. & the item gets paid for, but is never delivered. I've personally taken a loss on some expensive transferable items I never got, simply not ever hearing back from the creator, regarding their transferable items. KUDOS to Jonquil - for offering garments in additional layers! I offer my tats in all possible garment layers, but still it's so hard to wear certain tats without them being arranged as the bottom most garment layer. |

Definately mod/copy/no trans. Obviously I can understand why a creator doesn't want their stuff transferable. But I need to copy. I hate when I make an outfit and my stuff is moved. I may wear the same thing with many different outfits. Then I have to do a search to find them, so annoying. Also, prim objects like hair or skirts need modifying and you want to do that with a copy in case you screw something up.

I opt for transfer everytime.
Simple reason: I bought it, I should be able to pass it on as I see fit. Either to an alt or sell it at a yard sale. It is my pet peeve to not be able to transfer something. |

LL needs to take a stab at permissions masking via script again.
What this issue needs is vendors that can sell you the permissions set you prefer - with little to no trouble for the artist making the clothing or accessory. _____________________

I love to buy clothes and shoes and would love to give them away but a lot of the time they are no transfer .. i said i would not buy anything non transfer again... sometimes something looks better on the model than on my avatar so i like to give the clothing away rather than bother the creator ..transfer makes that possible..thanks for a great thread and the chance to add my 2 lindens worth to it . When i came to SL people gave me a lot of clothes..I simply like to return that when i can..though my av is fairly new i am playing this game since october 2005 and lost almost ten thousand in inventory when i closed my account to make this avatar... I dont have an alt..i couldnt afford to clothe her lol.... rain |

Why not let the buyer decide which they prefer by offering both options.
Clothing line a has copy no transfer Clothing line b has transfer no copy I realise this has find it in the folder and display it in the shop problems, but it removes the issue of a customer not buying because the permissions are wrong. |

However, I have a third line I`d like to see [if we can figure out how to do it]: Package "Copy/noTrans" items in a "Trans/noCopy" shipping crate that deletes itself when opened. This will allow purchace of Copy/noTrans *gifts*. Personally, I prefer Copy/noTrans for most nearly everything, but there *are* times when I prefer Trans/noCopy. |

considering anyone could keep one layer and give the other one away or sell it this is something YOU really shouldnt be worrying about.. seriosly.. a person baught your product.. if they want to give or sell it away then that is there business.. I mean if you had a vendor crisis and someone bought like 50 of your tops for 1 linden each then sold them you can complain.. but giving away a single item or selling it really isnt a bad thing. _____________________

I prefer to have things that are mod/no copy/transfer. Too many times I am stuck with something that doesn't look anything like what the ads show due to fancy schmancy photoshopping, lighting and anything else that makes the outfit look different than what it actually is. I also enjoy buying gifts for people and while some places offer gift certificates I think there is more thought in buying an actual item for someone as opposed to giving a certificate. In some cases you can contact the designer for transfer versions but it seems like such a waste of time on both parties to do that or they never contact the buyer back. I have so much junk in my inventory that I will never wear, cannot give away or sell at a yard sale nor can I even get my money back from the creator. There are only a few places I will shop that have no transfer items and it is because the quality is high and I get what was advertised.
I am making my things mod and transfer so they can be given as gifts. _____________________

I know I shouldn't be bothered when people use my stuff to rip off other people. I mean, I already got my dollar, so fuck everyone else. But it does bother me.
