9. Attempting communication while intoxicated, sleepy, depressed, or overly excited.

So...I need to never, ever communicate in my lifetime, eh? =O.o=

Oh no. If you're depressed you HAVE to communicate to people.

Just don't try to make crucial statements on the forum when in the middle of an attack.

I've been there myself. Judgement is really impaired on crucial matters.

The part about depression doesn't apply to all the forum communications (unlike anger), just to the critical ones.

The list are conditons that increase the chance that you might make a post that violates forum guidelines. It doesn't mean you're sure to make a mistake, it just means you'll be more likely to make a mistake.

I have never heard of depression coming in "attacks"...panic, but not depression. I assume you mean situational depression brought on by events in your life. I myself have battled chronic depression my entire life. There is not a moment of my day I am not depressed. It's a disease like cancer or diabetes, and not within my control and has been unhelped by anti-depressants.

I find your inclusion of such things as saying that people who suffer from depression or the like are somehow incapable of rational judgement, and that is not only incorrect, but highly offensive. Might as well say, please do not communicate if you have AIDS, cancer, or even a common cold as these diseases may influence you to not be rational.
So...might I add a new number to your list?

12. Do not attempt to communicate about something you do not fully understand.

What I can't figure out is why I haven't gotten into trouble a couple of times. I've certainly pushed the envelope, or at least I think I have, although it was always for what I felt was a good and important reason (yet still, I half-expected retribution).

Worse, before I was aware that naming names was specifically a bad thing (yes, I did miss that rule initially), I actually did name at least one name, and in the title, no less! I've never been suspended, and in fact I've never even been warned.

Of course, I'm not complaining ... not in the least. :p I'm just curious as to whether somehow I'm doing something differently or it's just pure dumb luck. Certainly I don't deliberately try to stir up any trouble, but the impression at least seems to be that the desire to cause trouble is not a prerequisite for getting in trouble.

Honestly, I just don't know what to make of it all.

I've found your posts generally to be quite considerate and thought out. If that reflects your personality then your posts will tend to hover far from the violation thresholds. This means, no, you haven't been lucky with your posting. You're "lucky" in having that personality. Then again personality is not a matter of luck.

Thank you. :o

I guess what I meant is that when I'm serious about something, I tend not to pull any punches in my assessment. And on a couple of occasions, I've specifically made fun of certain people (who I felt deserved it). I don't know ... maybe it is just how I say things, but I can't help wondering.

Oh well.

Private discussions – the forums are a public area for the Second Life community’s use. Individuals who have a dispute with each other have other channels of communication to discuss their differences or communicate – private messaging, IM within Second Life, or chatting within Second Life. Also, threads that are addressed to a single individual or group are inappropriate on the forums, this includes slander or "naming names" in a posts title, starting polls about a particular resident or group, etc.

Make of that what you will. :p I think I broke the rule once, but maybe I got away with it 'cause it was funny. I don't think your parody broke it. ;)

If I feel that a punch is appropriate I don't pull my punches either. But I word it carefully. I think you do too. I don't remember any of your posts giving me that acidic feeling of someone who was going overboard.

Ooo! I thought of something I've done that's wrong! (And I knew it was illegal!) I have accepted copies of friends' software instead of buying it myself.
