From: Alice Katayama Making friends is as important in SL as it is in real life, possible more so. There is no way you are going to enjoy this game is you spend all of your time alone, who would you show your latest creation to?
Relaxing comes in many many forms. I am not able to talk to almost anyone in real life and am really lonely right now. I won't get into it just too many issues in RL. SL is like my only place I can get away from it all and talk to people even in the middle of the night for me. If I'm at my store moving stuff around or putting things up and I see a customer I get so excited and sometimes will chat for an hour with them about anything. SL really helps me out in RL this way too and is why I enjoy SL so much.

I learned that cows are great for making kites. It's easy to make a cowkite in SL, too bad lessons don't always translate too well to RL. When I tried tying a rope around the tail of a cow and tell it to fly, all I ended up with was being chased by a mad cow.

Things I have learned in SL 1. Inappropriate use of push (even if accidental) is not appreciated. (Hence me accidentally floating everyone in Cordova once) 2. To be careful what I click on. 3. I can build halfway decently. 4. I can program halfway decently. 5. There is still more I can learn about programming and building. 6. There is always something new to see. 7. Proper spelling and grammar are not important. It is the thought that counts. 8. If you want to liven things up visit a sandbox or a welcome area. 9. If you REALLy want to liven things up, give someone a Wild Slime Follower. (I really haven't done this, but I have seen the aftermath) 10. I'm a shopaholic. 11. Don't automatically right-click on something in my inventory and choose Wear. You may wind up with box head. 12. Sometimes you can become a transgender when the grid is having issues. (Hence begin Ruthed /111/c8/89180/1.html ) 13. I still have problems attaching pictures to posts in the forum. 14. There are some really creative people in SL. 15. There are some real jerks in SL.

What I have learned in / through / thanks to SL:
- using the Gimp - patience - that fashion can actually be lots of fun - likewise for business stuff - that I really suck at that whole "socializing" stuff - that it's more fun to invent one's own metagames rather than play preplanned linear games - lots & lots of american english words that I had to look up on urbandictionary.com (and mom wouldn't be proud of those)

I have learned: - There are only a handful of creative people in SL, the rest just copy from them.
- The ignore button is my friend.
- Linden Lab is not the enemy.
That's all I got (that I want to share anyway.

Things I have learned: 1. Spheres are #^(@# hard to texture and cones are damn impossible. 2. There is no code so simple someone won't just buy it instead ("Then you just put llSay.." "Forget it I can buy this for 50L" 3. There is nothing so cheap that people won't want it for free instead. ("Can't you just GIVE me the code? It's only 50L!" 4. Home is where your sandbox is, hope you bought enough teir 5. Every time you think people are jerks, someone will nicely surprise you 6. There is a market, however small, vor beauty, fun, culture and learning in the game. 7. Gambling is never, never worth it. The only reason people have machines on their property for it is to make money off of you. 8. Hard money is not so hard as easy money. 9. You can actually get bored of cute fluffy collies and skunks. 10. Many women, really, really want to look like hootchies, if the popularity of heavily made up, long legged, big titted, fab hair bling girls are any indication amongst my SL rl girl pals. 11. There is nothing so silly that someone won't get sour over it 12. You can't chose your neighbours but you can chose your fade distance and your mute. 13. Flying is fun and crashing is harmless unless your sim locks. 14. Sailing a boat in SL is less fun than I had hoped, and there are almost no underwater scuba areas. 15. There are always new things to build for the creative mind. Next project: mahogany runabout. 16. A furry and his money are soon parted if you have anything even slightly related to their fan species o,o (note: furry fan here too) 17. Your favorite places are transient, and your favorite people are almost never on 18. Just like real life, I'm just making a subsistance level income and to do what I'd really like I'd have to be a lot richer (oh, snorkel and island sim, how I long to buy you...)

Math!! I learned that the best way to get prims to line up and match seamlessly is to use the number fields on the object edit window instead of eyeballing. MATH! I still can't calculate rotation angles and angle-cut prims. Back to the Eyeballs Mk. I.

Since being in SL, I have learned: That ladies from around the world love us Brit guys! There are sides of Me that have remained dormant, until now. That you really can feel love, hate, bitterness, happiness, inspiration etc and not even meet the person making you feel these things That I am aggresive and sometimes even cruel That I can get away with doing things in SL that I would never even contemplate in RL That I hate typing and can't type *C'mon SL, give us voice!* That nothing stays the same That teen greifers annoy me just as much in SL as they did in There.com. I fear the end is nigh or SL and I That people from around the world are cool to talk to, and all talk English! That I wish there was teleporting in RL! That you never stop learning Bulldog

From: Bulldog Liberty That I wish there was teleporting in RL! There is, but the technology has been bought out and hidden in GM's basement because it would destroy the US auto market.

It's very hard to make large circular rooms and I am overambitious in my building projects. My typing sucks. I don't know if I should say hi to the green dots on my map or avoid them. I love slingo!

1. I learned about Goreans and Furries. I'd heard of Furries before but never bothered to look it up until SL.
2. I learned interesting terms like "blingtard" (oh so wholly appropriate).
3. I learned a different way of programming.
4. I learned that most people don't like making their human avatars more natural-looking and instead like them with tons of makeup (this applies to males too).
5. I learned to hate push scripts.
6. On the forums I learned that many have very unrealistic expectations of SL's technology, implementation, and the general state of technology. 7. Not really news to me, but many propose solutions to problems without taking into consideration any other point of view but their own, frequently failing to see other aspects of the situation that make their solution totally unworkable.

I learned how to use SL. * Learned to model 3D objects. * Became better at Scripting (was the easiest for me since i have a past in other languages). * Figured out Alpha Layers. * Learned how to survive the internets! * Learned how to manage a community. * Learned how to tollerate unsavery people (griefers). * My communication skills improved (asspergers). * Learned how to splice sound files into 10 second bits. * Learned the mysteries behind the TGA. * Learned that my lifestyle is the most hated in the internet world. * And most importantly I learned What a griefer is. (seriusly i never heard of them till i came here). o.0

so tonight when I log on, I should have 2 walls returned to me that I will just need to delete.

What have I learned?
07-19-2006 09:05
Heh, as an 25 yr old invalid, I learned that SL is the answer to my "moving around prayers" in RL; that I am extremely shy even in a world of total anonymous peeps; that flying can be fun and flying planes is even more fun (when you dont crash ; that I love to learn new things (hated school lol); that yes you can fall in love with someone you dont know, cant touch, cant talk to and cant see ; and that someone can jilt you even tho this is a virtual world and all they have to do is say "I am on lots do you mind if I am with others as well?" HEH why would I? that I love hearing "Amazing Grace" sung by Cherokee Indians AWESOME; that ballroom dancing is definitly not dorky! that yes you can make money here but will leave you no time for anything else either; that this world is not made because the Linden's love us, but because the Linden's love money! HEY, they made it first... good for them and their pockets ; that BDSM and Gorean are actually something to do with (you guessed it) sex!--who would have believed--well not me anyway; that you can turn the tide on griefers, just get a shield or get a bomb *BIG GRIN*.

What I've learned
07-19-2006 09:12
1: My typing is horrible!
2: I am as anxious and uncomfortable with certain things here as I am in RL.
3: What the terms "Metaverse", "Gorean", "Prims", "Avi" and "Pony Girl" mean.
4: That clearly some see this as a game and others see it as something far more.
5: That the level of imagination and talent of the people in this SL is awe inspiring.
6: That despite knowing full well the world is loaded with jerks, I am still as surprised, hurt, and let down as usual when I learn I've been the focus of their stupidity.
7: That I am a bump magnet.
8: That I as well am a shopaholic.
9: I'm inspired to do - something.
10: You can actually grow to care for someone you will never meet and most likley never speak too.
11: You meet the nicest people where you least expect it and you find the biggest idiots where you'd last think it.
12: Sex not only sells - it sells when it isn't even real!
13: I will never be satisfied with the look of my Avatar.

I've learned that "MOST" of the men there are jerks and players just like in RL. They like to take advantage of someones kindness. sigh That I love my job teaching others to build and design. That Im totally addicted to my land as well as over protective! lol That even though we are in a game world there are Real people behind the TOONS! *remember that one folks* You can TP in on your man having an affair just like RL LMAO and they still get just as suprised! I also learned that I am totally addicted and distracted by my virtual world and I should be getting housework done so I will wrap this up.
