Maybe Anshe or someone could become a meta-baron, buying the big blocks of sims and splitting them into smaller blocks, eventually single-sim blocks, that individual barons could then buy and parcel into even smaller plots of land :)

I guess my point is that Boardman is zoned, one is issued a restrictions notecard upon purchase, no? Maybe guidelines could be issued. If they were to start something like this, wouldn't it be easier to do it on a mass of sims physically separate from the mainland?

Is LL enforcing player ran zoning now? If not, once I buy some land there, its mine to do as I please. All Im saying is NOTHING ATM is in place to make this place anything more than mainland east.

Unless the entities buying these new regions retain ownership of them and only rent out parcels. Then they could be zoned, but the person renting would have no ownership and very little direct control of their parcel under the current group structure.

Very true. This depends on the goals the investor sets out. But like we know, at the end of the day if the investor owns the land, the renter has no power or benefits like they would on private estates.

I think personally the best route is to design a system of roads and waterways and convert them to LL and then carve up the rest for direct sell. This would provide a funcational shell to grow in. Sure it would be like the mainland but at least the roads wouldnt suddenly end or waterways be blocked. Just my opinion.

My only response at this point is really "wow". If, in a market that is only 100,000 people strong (yes, taking each account as being totaly individual which is utter garbage I know) there are more than a single lonesome binary digit number of people willing to do this I'll eat my hat, skates, vending machines and any other sundry items people would like to throw in.

That is, unless this is a new strategy made to meet a demand from somebody who doesn't currently have a presence in SL, and this is engineered to allow them entry. I mean, let's face it, offer it as an auction, but with the understanding that it's at such a level that our competitiors will be one or zero other people.

But then...mainland....ewwwww

Still, one thinks they should've integrated a functional, contractual rental tool into the parcel interface before publishing this.

Moopf, feel free to do what you must with the rest, but please, please, do not eat your skates.

I wonder what will happen to the map speed? They kinda need to make a map that actually works before they expand the land mass too much.

I suggested something similar a few months ago, I am glad someone was listening. Overall, I think it is a brilliant plan, and see this as the future of land sales directly from LL. We will truly have the opportunity to shape this world with persistance.

I do however have a few beefs with the implementation of this initial test. The fact that only one ten sim block is being offered in this initial offering. Instead of the 20 and 40 sim blocks, I think LL should seriously consider offering several more 10 sim blocks. As it stands, I think we all know who will bid up the 10 sim block to resale value.

I believe a larger discount is in order, perhaps allowing an additional week of tier free buffer.

And lastly, wtf is up with the short notice? This isn't a minor purchase for anyone, a user will have to come up with $10,000 - $40,000 USD hard cash, no credit cards.

I would absolutely LOVE to participate in this, but the fact that it is such short notice and only one ten sim block is being offered means that I will most likely be shut out of this. I suspect there are a few others like me.

In the three hours since I heard of this, I have thought of MANY ideas. All of them involve resale.

Any multi sim project that doesn't involve resale would be much better suited for private estates.

I am considering trying to round up an investment group, as the short notice is going to prevent me from going it solo.

I think that this can be a profitable venture, but the fact that any bidders are most likely going to be competing for the same block (10 sim), may just kill that.

Do you think we might see anything other than massive archipelagos?

I suspect that this plan was notified to specific certain someone(s) in plenty of time. There's little doubt as to who will be taking advantage of the feature right away. Then again, there's little doubt who the 'test' was meant for already.

maybe, Martin. But think about it; this isnt the kind of thing you cook up outta the blue and go 'hey, this'll work!'. It's a mind boggling leap in scale from current land sales methods.

I'd wager someone must have asked for this. So I'll wager it'll happen almost as soon as it's offered.

My gut tells me something big is already in the works, and they are just giving us the same chance as they have already offered coorporate america.

This would work so much better if LL would volunteer to clone existing sims onto the new 10-sim region. Think of all the cool places that fit within a theme and would blend well together, but have to be miles apart, and surrounded by non-themed crap.

But how would you keep the theme when you can't enforce it?

If I could just get nine sims attached to the mainland I'd be happy. I wouldn't resale, but I would be renting spaces out with agreements. And it would be themed.

Yea, me, too. I mean a 9 sim section, 3x3, would be sweet but that extra sim! That just ruins the deal for me. :D

I'm talking about existing sims that belong to groups and have kept the theme pretty well for a reasonable amount of time. If there was a big region on the map specifically designated for furries, or star wars fans or medieval stuff, and it was easy to expand it on demand...

Ah yes, and move over, that could work. That would be nice. :)
But doubt that people can get that managed in such a short time.
