As suggested, reposted from another thread which was wandering off its original topic, for further discussion and a bit of elaboration. The original post was on the thought that there are 'too many Lindens'.
I'm not sure there are "too many Lindens" considering the size and complexity of the game... personally I'd rather have a few more Lindens in customer service, dealing directly with in-world issues and talking to players. I can't think of many Lindens who started life as 'regular players', and I am sure that many of them don't actually use their 'product' in the same way that many of us do, day in day out.
Some Lindens should be more visible, and more easily found in-world, rather than simply having to file abuse reports, bug reports and suchlike... wouldn't it be so much easier if, when we found a bug, we could just explain directly to a Linden who could come over, see the problem, then yell for a Linden in that department to come have a look, instead of filing a bug report and hearing nothing more about it.
I think I've probably only seen about 5 Lindens 'in the pixel' in-world out of however many there are. Even then it comes across very much as an 'us and them' attitude. If we are ever truly to be a community, that would be a great barrier to break to start it rolling.

I'm with you Lewis, I'd like to see more around too but from what I can gather, hiring enough Lindens for that to happen just isn't scalable. This is why the volunteer programs are so important for them. Also, I think they'd prefer to fade into the background more because of the whole "our world" idea. Over the past 2 years I've found that they seem to be trying to extricate themselves from much of their in world involvement.

From: Khamon The greater cadre of Lindens are liasons payed to perform the sole duty of supporting Philip's Precious Fucking Community. They're inworld on regularly scheduled shifts, generally several at a time. We can't have it both ways. We either rely on the Lindens to be our kindergarten cops, or we start acting like adults so they can shift liason pay to the developer pool. crossposted from this thread where the topic was raised

I meet five Lindens once at same time... OK they dident talk to me - it was at Versus wedding... Philip told us al that he had invented this.. and that true.. the lag was killing us al.. on the other hand I meet our King and Queen IRL and they dident talk to me.. and as IRL and in SL i live my life.. and do my things...and pay my bills.. and most of the time have a nice time..
BUT of course it would be nice to feel some more presence... or maybe not... I am not sure in this case... we are grown ups arent we?
/Tina - EXAKT.. something today.. wonder what...

Ah yes much better. I feel like responding now, in this environment. I agree, pretty much, to whatever point it may be practical. As Ingrid said, there would definitely be scalability issues, but more interaction, and at a more productive level than hollering for a liason to come sort something out. Maybe some of this falls back on us, we could be a bit more, I dunno, mature, realistic, about what we tie up their resources with sometimes. As has been noted, they do seem to be quite concious of the 'Our World' philsophy, but rather than fade in the background to achieve this, but I sense many as actually desiring for it to feel like 'our' world, is more and better contact with the Lindens. To communicate concerns, highlight major issues, even so they gain more insight into how we use their product, the tools, to show them how we use 'our world'. Bureaucratic processes don't appear to achieve that, or satisfy that basic desire for more communication. I'm not sure how it could be achieved, but it would create a lot of goodwill, even if it was partially possible. I'm increasingly seeing SL as two entities, there's the SL that is LL's commercial product, and then there's the SL that is us, the society and the communities that have grown around their product. As a product, I think the company does a remarkable job of communicating, compared to most other services. As a 'world', whatever you want to call it, I think people are looking for a different approach.

I dare LL to make me a Linden. I'd be visible alright. I'd be Harrassment Linden. I'd be all over y'all like white on rice. By the time I was done you'd be begging for the Lindens to fade in the background. Be careful what you wish for because I am bringin' the hammer.

We definitely need more visible Lindens. I find the preponderance of invisible ones very irritating. Only yesterday I was wandering around looking for loose prims when I tripped over Pathfinder Linden lying in the shrubbery. He said he was watching beetles. A likely story.

in their defense, every time i call Live Help, and its often (they love me there) usually a Linden appears and tries to solve my problem. So i can truthfully say the have been there when i called upon them and in just about every case, quickly too..
So while they are not wandering around asking our oppinions here there and everywhere, (oh god what an awful job, thats prolly a Linden initiation or something) i know they are behind the scenes availble in a moments notice.
But i agree if they were in the grid on a daily basis, even as their own av, they would see these problems as we do and feel our pain...

I would like to see more Lindens walking around trying to act like normal people but it probably isn't going to happen. For whatever reason I have been very lucky when asking for a Linden's help and I have met many of them that way. When I contact Live Help I specify when I want to talk with a Linden and without fail one of them responds. It helps to be polite to them, not cuss them out and to act like you are taking their advice especially when you are a newbie and Jill Linden asks you not to do suggestive type dances on a bench at the welcome area.
