So long to the soon to be vanished snapshot system.

I didn't appreciate your simple streamlined functionality till it was soon to be gone.

Of all the features I'm anticipating today, I honestly haven't paid much attention to the snapshot changes. My only complaints with the way it has been are that once you set a file name & folder for shots saved to disk, it keeps that and you can't change it without relogging. And, of course, all my HUDs show up in snapshots. Will that be fixed?

Anyone ever wonder why, when you take a snapshot it goes to your photo album folder, but when someone sends you a snapshot it goes to Textures?

So I have a bajillion files named "snapshot" and if the lag's bad there's no way I'm opening them all up to wait on rez and see what they are.

I am really looking forward to the new snapshot mode. I agree that the white flash and the falling away effect are just obnoxious though. And I to would like to be able to change the location where snapshots are stored more easily. But as for the rest, I am pretty excited.

I don't like it at all... I think it's unnecessary and a pain to deal with. I had no problems at all using the old system. It's a huge headache to have the whole screen freeze as a preview. I kinda wish they'd fix things that need fixing instead of putting in fancy new features to fix things that aren't broken. It'd be nice if this feature was optional and could be turned off.

I am not thrilled with the 'flash' affect, nor the annoying 'tossed photo.'

I had a hard time understanding why my avatar was soo still after the snapshot. Turns out it was a preview, which, when you are dealing with snapshoting a griefer in action, isn't a GOOD thing, folks. It's simply annoying. If they gave us the option of where we wanted to save the images, great, that would be an improvement in the function.

What I'd like is for someone to explain to me why the 'flash' is an improvement in 'function,' rather than just an 'effect'! It serves no purpose, not even to shead light on the subject! It just looks pretty.. pretty annoying.

Cindy, go to view/deselect 'show HUD attachments', when you're taking photos.

Probably to prevent voyeurs taking snaps you'd rather they didn't without you knowing about it...

This "improved" feature really, really needs to be changed so that it can be turned off. I'm thinking that I'm probably not going to take as many snapshots anymore with this new system, and I bet I'm not the only one. Wouldn't it have made more sense to keep it the way it was, but make the preview window resizeable, and add the ability to change resolution of the final snapshot? What's the point in making it more complicated than it needs to be?

Doesn't take it off, it just doesn't show, in the photo, or interface, while you have it de-selected.

haha yers i was looking for a picture the other day amongst the endless streams of 'snapshot', not quite as bad as looking for 'object' when you deleted it by mistake and then restore it from trash

For myself, I find that I will be taking more pictures, especially now that I can choose my resolution so I don't have big, giant bitmaps cluttering my harddrive, and lets me skip having to go to infranview to resize and jpg a snapshot.

You can save yourself a lot of trouble by setting your inventory to sort by date (it's in the menu at the top of your inventory). The first in the list is then always the last saved/rezzed/returnedetc. object or snapshot.

The visuals are annoying, but you're overlooking the positive side of the new snapshot system. Now you can start a snapshot, then zoom over to something far away and see what it looks like when it's at it's maximum simplification. I learned that I'm hideous from far away, a wedge-shaped head just doesn't work with my hair. :(

I bug reported not having and option to turn off full screen preview the day each preview grid came up. LL simply does not care what users want. They don't believe in OPTIONS it's their way or the highway clear down to OUR UI. (FILTERED) PATHETIC.

FRAPS. I mean, you have to turn off the HUD items anyway, so what's one extra key press to take a screenshot?

I've not relied upon the built-in SL screen capture system for a loooong time.

(The only time I need to use it when taking hi-res snapshots of products.)

Which is a Good Thing (tm), however I'll point out that the really dedicated voyeurs will still be able to do it with something like IRFanView running in the background. It's a 3rd party program so nobody else in SL will be able to tell they're using it.

Women who are concerned should always wear underwear in public :)

How does the flash ocurring on the screen of the person taking the shot help someone else know a picture is being taken?

From the constant barrage of complaints from the photographer. ;)

(I do agree that this should be an option that can be disabled)

I like the new menu and some of the options are rather nice. They fixed the problem where high res snapshots improperly scale the HUDs attached (they didn't scale, they just tiled it before) -- this will lead to some new fun ways of taking photos.

However, the freeze and glitzy shit is just toally not cool and it shouldn't be there since it's totally screwing with my photo mojo. I happen to like the rest a lot, however.

(P.S. What's up with the pointless pie menu animations? I could understand a fade-in/out, but jeeze...)

I can't help wonder with some reservations if this 'tool' is going to be of greater benefit to the rising number of texture theives who are plaguing Sl designers at the moment, than anyone else. Is it just being made esier for them?

That's actually not a bad idea... we can turn off shiny and ripple water and hardware lighting, so we should be able to turn off the new snapshot system as well.
