I wouldnt be too sure of that. Ignoring them and pretending they dont exist doesnt help. Il let you off easy this time since your a new account though.
As I was reading through this thread, this caught my attention and reminded me of one of my pastimes when I myself am at the recieving end of... for lack of better terms - mild retardation.
Make a box. Sit on said box. Move said box back to original location. Encourage friends to do the same. Take a moment as a group to discuss with the individual what they have done is wrong. Then, return to your previous conversation or whatever. Most griefers can't do anything once you arrive at this situation. They get bored, and they leave.
And if your assaulter
does figure out a way to cause problems when you arrive at this situation, it usually involves causing the entire sim problems. The officers of that sim can either take care of it, or do nothing in which the members in that sim begin to get frustrated. This causes Linden Labs problems thanks to stacking complaints. If these problems go ignored, then these problems have a financial stipend to boot. One small problem then becomes a very big problem.
Sooner or later someone's going to think of a way to stop it at the root, or, wise up and realize that there are methods right here, right now, to take care of these issues.
Personally, while I welcome new members to our society, I welcome stupidity about as much as I welcome cancer. And I'm just
thrilled about cancer.
Think of it this way. Bleach kills cancer. But bleach kills people - no matter the amount used. It's a solution, but it destroys what it's supposed to save. We need a magical cure. Some miracle. The Lindens are merely scientists searching for a cure, making new discoveries in the field of medical science every day, (updates, etc). But there are only so many of them.
But, as a whole, we understand that cancer can be stopped if it's removed before it becomes severe. It doesn't take a @#$%ing scientist to figure that one out. Sure. It
did at some point. But, they took it out of their time to tell us this fact. That's exactly what the Lindens have done for us. They gave us the tools needed to get rid of the cancer before it becomes severe. We have access to many of the things they do. The only thing we don't have, is bleach. And if we did have it, Second Life would be no more.

At the end of the day, alot of children these days are in some cases, much more mature than some adults. Before we start judging children, why don't we sort ourselves out as adults?
Children don't start wars, children don't cause poverty, children don't have affairs .... I wish other adults would stop judging children for being immature when many children these days are much wiser and much more mature than some adults that I know.
When I was younger, I had this same problem .. I was mature. And everyone treated me like I was a trouble-maker because I was a teenager. I find it disgusting and disrespectful.
Another thing .. where do children get all these ideas and habits? They learn them .. from who? ADULTS!
Think before you judge people, and NEVER judge by age.
I wish I was a child again, because I am sick and disappointment by adults across the globe.
I am expressing opions, mostly. Some may agree with me, while others may not. But...
Do you
honestly think that the majority of 'children' would not start such problems as you listed were they not able to come into contact with the necessary things to start them? Yes, the problem mostly stems from adults not properly raising their children. Unfortunately, the current adult fad for fixing this issue is blaming something else.
Take video games, for example. Show a child a gun, and expose him to violent games - then ignore him for months, perhaps even years. Then yell at him when he does something wrong. What do you think will happen?
Same example. Show the child the gun, but explain why it is a bad thing. Explain why, even though video games can provide enjoyment for immersive, false-reality, that they are not the real world. Teach them the difference between the two. What do you think will happen then, should the child do wrong, and then be explained to what exactly was done and why it was wrong?
Children have a tendancy to rebel at a certain age. We usually associate this with teenagers, because that's the age in which they usually fall under this rebellious stage. Some do not, however. Some are mature, and move on quickly in life. These, I can almost guarantee, were the ones 'properly' raised. The ones that rebel are merely at conflict with what they hold as their own views on what is right and wrong, and what they are told - all based upon reinforcement - be it negative, or positive. The more a child understands, the better off he is. Teaching them everything can be a time consuming thing, yes, and could contain many things a parent could be uncomfortable explaining based upon their own personal views and the way they were raised.
But you know what? Be a parent. You know. That's your job. That's what you decided you were going to do when you did the dirty.
Getting off of this rant, even though giving a basic generalization as to what I'm getting at - the mature residents of SL are like the parents. If we do our job, the kids turn out all right. We just have to work harder, and we can't be lazy about it - because in this world, the kids have access to
everything.
