New land baron griefer

There is another classless act in my neighborhood building 80 metre tall boxes covered in trash. The aim is obvious, and that is to force one of the residents to pay out way more then the land is worth to get rid of them.

I really wish there was some way to address this sort of abuse. I would sell and move on if I could, but who would buy my land with this monstrosity for a back yard?

Congrua (236, 63, 149) (constuction is just over the sim border in Epilais.)

What I would like is for no one to buy anything from this person, including the land. If their shock tactics fail, and they are stuck paying tier for all this land, maybe they will find a better hobby, or grow up or something... wishfull thinking I know.

I'd like the option to turn off the rendering of selected parcels. Go to the "About Land" for the property and uncheck the "Render objects on this land" checkbox. Optionally, provide a LSL function for this as well. This would let people create objects for guests that say "Click here to turn off griefer builds".

As much as I hate that people will have the lack of class and courteousness it takes to deliberately grief with builds, I think disallowing it is a slope I don't care for LL to begin sliding down.

If I ask them to limit what my neighbor can build, I'm also asking them to limit what I can build. When we have to start building to our neighbor's tastes, the land we pay for no longer belongs to us.

It doesn't anyway, we just pay LL for the privilege of using it.

True, but I currently pay so that I can use it in any way I see fit, within the ToS. I don't want to pay so that my neighbors can tell me what I can and can't do with it.

If I wanted to do that, I would buy in a zoned sim.

Can I interest you in a nice 2048 in Congrua? I'll even throw in the castle I worked so hard on.

*sigh* I don't know. Problem with trying to ban or set standards for something like boils down to: Taste. Everyone has a different idea of what is or isn't acceptable. I agree, there could be something done that would allow us to turn off the rendering of builds on other lands, like we do with the trees and particles if they are bothering us. I seem to vaguely recall Phil saying something about this on the townhall. So, hopefully there will be some relief soon.

Hahaha, that's astoundingly blatant.

I would advise anyone who doesn't think that sort of thing is quite on to IM the owner and say "Hello, I just saw your build at X, and with those sales tactics I will not buy land from you in any context". If enough people say that perhaps they will appreciate that making a mess of SL doesn't make you any friends, or customers, or money.

As tempting as the offer is, no thanks. ;)

My husband and I buy as much land in our home sim as we're able, so that we can control our view, to some degree. It sucks that it's the only way to have any say over the sim, and to protect our own property value, but that's the way the system works, so we pay for it.

I'd be all for being able to block outside builds from view if LL could implement it, but until then, and unfortunately for many of us on a budget, cash is king. You can only control what you pay for.

On the other hand, a concerted consumer boycott speaks rather loudly as well.

True. There are plenty of SL businesses I choose not to do business with due to their lack of ethics or shitty attitudes, and I pass those opinions onto friends and other interested parties, to make the choice for themselves.

Well, I shall certainly be passing these names on to everyone I know, or, for that matter, don't know. This really is the worst I've seen so far.

The solution is not regulating and arbitrating on builds. It's implementing tools so you can choose how you see the world. A few suggestions have been selective rendering, and sims with larger area (as per my sig). Another good one was to make the void navigable, so that islands can be used to space people out without completely disconnecting them from the world.

I think the third poll option should be renamed, "We need zoning enforcement: It Takes A Village To Placate A Child".

ON THE OTHER HAND....i looked at the pics and saw a big sign that said "this person is a griefer...do not shop from his store or buy his land" if THAT isnt harrasment i dont know what is? you realize that if its yourself that put the sign up that said that...you are now 10x worse than the original problem?

Hm. I don't want to live in my own personal universe, I can do that by simply not logging in. I enjoy the creations of my neighbours. I just want to live in one where people aren't trying to bully me into giving them money by deliberately creating huge ugly things right next to where I'm trying to build.

I don't expect anyone to necessarily agree with me on the subject of the ugliness of builds; I merely put this information out for general consumption. If we are to be subjected to ruthless capitalism as regards land with no recourse, we must take advantage of the existing recourses, boycotting and shunning.

Well, no. Not really. One shouldn't buy from anyone engaging in that sort of bullying tactic.

ordinal...there is a HUGE difference between being an annoying jerk and DELIBERATELY accusing someone of being a griefer and telling people not to buy from them

Being a land griefer, and being someone who says "you are a land griefer"? Well, yes, there is a difference, but I'd rather be the latter.
