What I tried to do was make a pretty place that had interesting things to see, but used textures as small as I could possibly get away with so it would rez quickly. I did it for fun.

I go there periodically to check on things. Rigjht now, since I have no Linden freebies for my free boxes, I'm filling them up with various things including a few I've made and a few that are freebies on the grid.

I didn't expect, nor did I receive, anything from anybody to do this. I feel that our SL is a wonderful place and that each resident has a special story. I am a creative person and this is a way I could contribute.

Also - this is my rezday :-D

Actually, it's cool to go see Infohubs. I haven't seen them all - I should go and look at them. Maybe we should get up a big cruising party... like a pub crawl... and go to all the Infohubs getting more raucous and whacky the further we go!

Ok, but WHY, as a new player was my 'home' set as that hub?

Maybe if the avdert hub is set so anyone can use it, LL sends new people there hopefully to give them somethig to do or find a home?

The threAmbat infohub thread is fascinating in the sense that I am once again amazed that ppl in SL can get so worked up over something trivial.

When I started SL I suppose I had some form of "orientation" but it did not help in the least.

I found people building in the dark and I could not grasp the concepts they shared with me. They were really friendly and dear, and I will always remember how they tried to help me. If I had landed in the Ambat Infohub, at least I would have had a place to sit and think for a moment!

It takes a long time to understand how to SL works. Now I see ppl with prim hair and outlandish avatars that have been in SL maybe a day!

Why NOT have an infohub as home? Why NOT have residents make the infohubs more interesting and less generic? Why NOT have advertising kiosks in the infohubs?

As the bumper sticker says:

LEAD, FOLLOW or GET OUT OF THE WAY!

There's nothing wrong with any of these - the only problem is that the people who built the infohubs had no warning that they were building home locations. And people who saw the invitation had no idea it was an invitation to build home locations. Welcome Areas have classically been free of advertising, regardless of it being available to all residents or not, so this is quite an interesting change.

Any Linden land can be set as "home." It may be because the WA is so... :-(

I don't find it to be true that any Linden land can be set as home.

The location of the balloon tour and the Linden office are examples of Linden land that won't let you set home there.

BUT - when I built Ambat I was just trying to build an interesting place for people to ge information, i.e. newspapers, resident advertisements, announcements. It doesn't make any difference to me if it's a spawn zone or not.

PLUS - the Lindens are sending new people out over the grid to Infohubs today. Tomorrow they might chose to do it differently. As far as I see it having flexibility is good. They might not even have known ahead of time that they would use the Infohubs that way.

These are Infohubs, and information comes in many forms. Everyone could run out and make a nice ad (could be a fun picture - a cartoon - a welcome message - whatever you'd like to see) and plop it into the advertisers. I cycle through the ads when I'm at an Infohub, and there usually aren't a lot.

One thing that we were supposed to get but I've never seen are resident message boards where I could leave you a message. That idea seems to have slipped between the cracks, but it might've been fun. These things are typically underutilised, however.

Actually my thread title was meant to be 'tongue in cheek'

But since this 'alt' I made was the first in a long time, I was surprised that I didn't go back (when TP'ing home) to the big overpopulated welcome area that I think I remember from the past. This info hub was much cozier :) and I noticed that ANYONE could advertise in the ad thingy I saw the land ad in. :)

I think theres people who wished there was an FIC -

I recently was a witness to an intense disagreement. A friend standing up for the "wronged" person began dropping names of Lindens and saying how they would intercede on his behalf.

I think it was a lot of hot air, but that guy surely hoped he was due preferentaly treatment becuase of who he knows.
