The SLPD (SL Police Department... cop roleplayers) was recently renamed to soemthing like 'PD' by LL, because LL did not want them to be seen as the 'official' police force, or something like that. I wonder if the 'SLTS' will be renamed to just 'TS' with the same reasoning.

Well, im trying to make it kind of like an offical Transit system of SL, but if thats a problem, then i guess it wouldn't hurt to rename it.

Here I've been DYING for someone to invent TELEPORTATION in RL so I don't have to take a bus, and you want to put buses in SL where we all teleport or fly?

That's just silly, unless you're doing a themed sim.

Please have a film crew monitoring all your busses. I want it on tape when the busses explode and send a bunch of avatars hurling in all directions at sim crossings.

I could see a tour business where a new resident might go on a tour of notable sights, shopping areas, clubs, or whatever they want to see. I think tours could be fun. It could be a builds tour on Mondays, wilderness areas on Tuesday, or what have you. I don't think buses would be good, but either teleporting or boats, or using a combination of teleporting with bicycles, etc., might be interesting. Incidentally, Nova Albion in its by-gone days had water taxis - that's why we have those lovely canals. Perhaps you could start a water taxi business!

How about a Air cruse ship. (like the one in that movie)

The only problem is the 32m limit per section and you would need at least one avitar siting in each section to prevent it from being returned as it roamed SL at speeds slow enough to cross sim boundrys.

My advice, Kohelen, is to buy yourself a single bus or taxi, and give people tours of SL and offer to drive them around for a small fee. If you can make it work as a business and your customers demand it, then you'll know when it's time to expand to more vehicles and eventually into a fleet of them.

This way you can guage demand for the idea, and you won't lose big if you lose interest or it doesn't work out.

Well, Kohelen, I was seriously considering dropping you a line and seeing what I could do for you, it sounds like a neat idea. However, after seeing your response to Sensual and Jillian, I don't want to have anything to do with you.

And the chances of this group being renamed are slim unless they start generating negative publicity, as was the case with SLSP years ago, and more recently with SLPD (and SLMPD by proxy).

Yes, I think that this is a good idea, but it will most likely fail in the end.
You see, most people teleport places nowadays in SL, and the Events list is a good way to meet people... or just go to a Linden-owned sandbox, because these places host a lot of people 24/7.

I really think that the idea of a transit system, though, is a good idea. Maybe you should try something better, like creating an auto-pilot system that takes people to different sandboxes (goguen and cordova). Or you can try making some sort of tram for a major area... my friend is starting an island called Zephyr Heights soon, maybe you can ask him about an autopilot taxi system or something so that you don't have people spending time driving a taxi. His name, by the way, is Barry Rawley.

The problem of having your name changed is not severe. The (SL)PD change was only a scare, the SLMPD had their name changed too but the Lindens changed it back after they made a few changes. A transit system would not cause any problems unless you forget to state that you are not official.

The best thing to do, though, is ask yourself (or friends) what people need the most. For example, I was seeing a buttload of griefing, that's why I started SLPD (and retired a few weeks ago due to the fact that griefing was much lower in sandboxes, which is where we primarily patrol). SLMPD will be more successful now because we milked the sandboxes dry from griefers; they all moved to private lands. SLMPD (to the best of my knowledge) takes calls from private landowners (and sometimes people in sandboxes) so they will get more griefers.

Anyways, think of what people need to generate the most profit and publicity. For example, try a company that produces extremely detailed items for buildings and homes. I started building tons of security systems and almost all of my friends have wanted some sort of system, from simple landowners for their homes to major business landowners for huge headquarters (SLMPD for example, I am currently creating a custom security system for them because they complained that they are using an extremely old version). So think hard, ask your friends, and you just might find a profit.

Im sorry, i appoligise ofr my earlier attitude, Im not good at being, well good. So please find it in your soul to forgive me. I have also been thinking about the "goup". I have talked to several of my friends and we made a dission on making this into a Tour guide kind of thing. There will be no "bus stations, stops or anything of that sort. There will be only one or two buses that will be used to drive in the best selectd areas that we feel are good for the citezens and we will be charging small fees for this. (maybe 5l$ for each trip? and btw we know that you will know the places after a one time visit, this is for newbies only). This might be a group of about 4-5 people considering that people will find this more useful instead of, for example, two people working at a touring service at a large area (not in a current goup that can be found on the find programm).

EDIT: If you're looking to get one from him, what I meant was for you to MAKE one for him, then use it on his island. This way you wouldn't need a huge arsenal of people.

I currently run an inter-sim ride chair/taxi/tour service going all over the main grid. More coming as time goes on...
