From: someone Second Life 1.8.2( Jan 27, 2006================================ * llDialog now displays a message showing from where the dialog originates ** When triggering an llDialog event on an object called "Object" owned by "Karen Linden," "Karen Linden's Object" will be indicated as the originator of the dialog * Classified Ad locations now are shown with more precision on the World Map * Debug > Show Updates option is once again functional * New "recommended" Graphics Card Memory setting displayed for some system configurations ** Graphics Memory Size is determined by two things: *** The amount of memory your graphics card has (VRAM) *** The amount of system memory you have (RAM) ** A system that has lots of VRAM but little RAM, we will recommend a lower setting than your actual VRAM to improve performance: *** For a machine with 256MB VRAM and 256MB RAM, the recommended Graphics Card Memory setting is 128MB Let's see.... First off, can we get something simpler than 1.8.2( ? Like just 1.8.2.8 or "1.8 Build 28" And start naming the larger decimals? Like 1.8.3 could be Beer Pack? As for the changes, sounds good to me. Is this recommended like "Crap" "Decent" "Better" and "F*** YEAH!"?

I am glad they are doing this: From: someone llDialog now displays a message showing from where the dialog originates ** When triggering an llDialog event on an object called "Object" owned by "Karen Linden," "Karen Linden's Object" will be indicated as the originator of the dialog

I'll opt for 'wait and see'

It's stunning to me that an enormous, glaring, critical UI bug is well known, internally fixed and yet not fixed in tomorrow's patch. wtf is that?

According to the revised patch notes posted by Karen Linden, the tab bug in the edit window HAS been fixed in this release. I guess it was important/finished enough to go ahead and put in.

I am hoping a typo creeps in at the last second so an object with a dialog box ends up saying:
Object pwned by [name]
its a dream... but hope springs eternal

I believe you have set up a false dichotomy. It is possible to say "meh" while one is fleeing in terror.

I'm in terror. All that sounded to me like bad news for someone with a minimal sort of system, which I believe I have.

As long as I can select 512MB for my video card size, I don't care what else changes.

Define "Recommended Graphics settings" Does this mean we can't opt higher? Because thats how it is now. My machine has 512 of Ram which SL insists on reading as 511. As a result I can't pick the 256 video setting that matches my video card.

Second Life insists on saying 511 because in reality your computer needs to use some of that memory for it's own well-being. Windows uses memory, and depending on what programs you are running in the background they use even more of it. That is if I remember correctly they said a system with like 256Mb VRAM and 256Mb RAM should select 128Mb for their video card memory size to improve performance (I don't know why, but it works!)

When I have some spare money for the computer I'll have to pick up an extra 512mb ram to get up to a full gig. Along with a brazilian ass-shaker hard drive and decent monitor.
I remember when 512kb of ram was enough for most needs. I feel so old!

I know. I was supressed growing up. I didn't get a computer until I was like 9, I made the jump from a 512kb Mac to a Mac SE/10, a... bigger color mac with 16mhz, then a 60mhz Power PC (with CD-ROM!), then a 300mhz PowerMac. Then... a G3, I can't recall the specs for it. Of course around that time I was 'liberated' from my evil ways by my uncle and now rule the world with my mad Wintel skillz.

I've been makign my views clear on the removal of the texture cache limiter as my system performance has continued to degrade with this new client, moving the camera is a chore, and soemtimes even walking as the system refuses to limit itself to just system memory. instead leaking into virtual memory to store vitally needed textures, making freezups a dialy occurance. i've sent an e-mail today to support asking about this as for me, it's beyind a joke. From: someone *** For a machine with 256MB VRAM and 256MB RAM, the recommended Graphics Card Memory setting is 128MB Scuze my french but that is bollocks. I have 512mb System RAM and a 128Mb Video card. having my vram set to 64Mb atm is still causing nasty freezups.

Actually. Since I'm running a barebones-ish remix of XP, SL runs pretty damn well on 512mb and 128mb of VRAM. But last night I ran into some kind of huge stutter bug. The system froze for a minute and the hard drive when nuts. All I was doing was panning the camera to get a look at the back audience.

I still have one of them in the closet somewhere. It's just waitin to show some random thug how strong they used to make computer parts back in it's day. Nothing says "ka-thunk!" like an old IBM spring-loaded "clinker board". Still works too heh

Are you kidding?
I use an M-series keyboard every day. I have backups for when it dies...
...In about another 20-fricking years.
Seriously. It was made in 89 (Each of them has their birthdate stenciled on the bottom). IT has *no* problems and works as well as the day it was put together.
I laugh my ass off at my friends who have to replace their keyboards every couple years.
