ummm... apart from the fact that this whole thing is very subjective, there appears to be one very glaring hole. By the very definition of the "crime" you're only at fault if you don't disclose your identity, but then how are they gonna know who to prosecute?

Good point, Kermitt... also, what about defining identity. I'd suggest that I have a very strong identity in FlipperPA (a user name I use many places) - in fact, you'll find a lot more about FlipperPA through Google than you would through my RL name.

Secondly, I thought Republicans were supposed to be about small government, as in staying out of our lives, and be fiscally conservative. The current congress and administration has done nothing but enact silly legislation to try to control our lives more closely (uh oh! Am I annoying you, Washington?) and spend recklessly creating training grounds for potential terrorists. True Republicans and conservatives should be bordering on the outrage some of us liberal types are feeling due to this nonsense that is truly wasting everyone's time and tax money inside and out of the USA!

I can't wait to see a case in court.

"So... you're here because you pseudononymously called the plaintiff a 'douchebag'. Did you bring any evidence to support this claim, sir?"

Okay, so. If I was going to flame someone, I'd have to put my name in there so they could sue me? Or worse, send the gestapo pigs to arrest me?

This topic already is in off-topic, in a thread called, "What's your real name?"

This is an interesting point. Before the internet, pseudonyms were relatively rare and had little place in the day-to-day lives of ordinary people (people who weren't ... secret agents.)

These days, especially in Second Life, people have whole lives, relationships, and businesses built up around our online identity.

(P.S. You're wrong Flipper, I googled your RL name and you are qute famous :D )

hahahaha, you'll have better luck with Tim Flipper Allen or Tim FlipperPA Allen ... that way you get rid of that annoying family-friendly coke dealer.

Everyone knows I'm friendly, but I'm definitely not FAMILY friendly. :-)

I reserve my right to remain an anonymous non-American :)
And I thought American laws couldn't get any worse, they continue to suprise me.

Hmm could this be used against email spammers? Junk mail that wont stop and use fake or invalid email accounts? But then again, like you said, whos going to enforce it?
This is the law in very broad language that will enable prosecution of spammers...you know all those junk emails you get every day that sound like they are from an individual but are really ads for viagra.

Its sort of going after Al Capone for general income tax evasion, but if it gets rid of the slime then why complain!

When I was in the Army the Regimental Sergeant Major called the barracks and I picked up the phone and answered 'Ya - wha the fuck ya want?'

He roared down the phone 'HOW DARE YOU ANSWER THE PHONE IN SUCH A MANNER - YOU ARE TO BE CORDIAL AND POLITE AND PROMPT AT ALL TIMES!'

'Yah - whatever... what ya want?' I replied..

'** DO YOU KNOW WHO THIS IS**' He roared - audibly furious.

'Newp...' I said

'THIS IS THE R.S.M OF THIS BASE AND BY GOD I'M GOING UP THERE RIGHT NOW TO GIVE YOU A REAMING THAT WILL MAKE YOU WISH YOU'D NEVER BEEN BORN!!! DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR SOLIDIER!!!' -- spit nearly flying through the mouthpeice.

'Oh', says I, 'Do you know who this is?'

'Ah... no' He says.

'Cool.... Go fuck yourself then'.

I hung up the phone and merrily walked away...

Well, I see the Army did you a lot of good...and I bet you did the Army, and consequently the country, just about as much good. Great to see my tax dollars put to good use on your salary and training.

This, kids, is a perfect example of how using a pseudonym on the internet makes random personal attacks for no reason that much easier!

Thanks for being the example!

This law is annoying. I'm going to sue. :)
It has caused me lots of emotional distress because I don't know if I should post anything anymore. :)
(Joking by the way) well unless they do go after me for something maybe.

I was in the Australian Army my good man - So I'm sure your tax dollars went towards some other schmuck who either ran himself over with a truck, or got shot by one of his buddies.

Sokay though I'm sure a lot of fries were served in order for you to make such a valuable contribution.

I guess I better not annoy anyone. What fun is that?
But seriously a lot of the legislation and revisions in laws in the last year have been a major pain in the butt. The powers that be revised a law last year that has a lot to do with the industry that I work in. The terminology is so vague that you almost need a secret decoder ring to understand what they are talking about. Plus half of what was in it was open to interpretation anyhow. But, I still have to follow it.
Sometimes I think they sit in congress and purposefully make laws that have us normal folk scratch our heads and go huh?

So Americans make up about 10% of the population of the planet, yet produce 25% of the worlds pollution, and apparently 90% of the utter bollocks that is the internet.

Don't you people have ANY self control or respect for your fellow man at all?
