Why the inconsistencies, LL? Why do you have it in for fleshies?! A completely naked human is considered vulgar in real life society. A completely naked human avatar is considered vulgar in Second Life society. Until real life society has a problem with naked gray aliens or anthropormorphic cartoon animals, than those taboos won't exist in Second Life. What's not to understand? |

Other people do and you should respect that whether you understand it or not. That is why they created PG and Mature sims. So those that like to walk around naked in public can, and those who don't want to have to look at it don't have too. Basically it's called mutual respect. I don't have a problem with nudity at all, but my best friend in SL is SO freaked out by it that he won't let his AV be seen naked even by his SL girlfriend in private. (yeah, when they are doing “that”). I don't understand it, but I respect it as his way. So if you want to be naked, great. Just do it in Mature sims and when you are in PG sims respect the people there by abiding by their wishes. (Just as they shouldn't go to a Mature sim and then harass you about being naked.) Though if I wander around nude, I'd perfectly happily argue the point that because she's a fur she isn't nude unless there are *ahem* parts showing (which there aren't unless I wear the extra clothing layers as I say).
But I've wandered around PG areas quite happily in my normal clothes (black T-Shirt and an arseless pair of camo chaps covered by a tail) without any problems. Never been to the welcome area but I would hope I wouldn't get told off for that choice of clothesrtainly.

I think Furries fall under the Wookiee Rule. Where, if you are covered in fur/scales, and nothing is showing, you're considered clothed.
For years I've heard the saying 'Fur covers everything' (void in furnation)

I once got rerouted to a PG area while I was supose to go diretctly to the other M site. Of course I was nude at the time. Noticing where I was, I few up quickly before everything rezed and anyone noticed. But I wonder how long others saw me as my ~200 prims rezed. A human would shurly have been visible a long time since anyone around only has to load you, while you have to load everything. I've also had one person, not LL, tell me to change shirts. Hehe "it's just an arrow and some text" I picked a different shirt that was less contriversal. |

For a significant portion of the population, too much human skin showing is linked to RL human nudity, and deemed equivalent, even if the bits aren't there. The same isn't true of PG furries, because the standard is more lax when the avatar supposedly has a layer of fur covering them. (Inclusion of naughty bits makes this irrelevant btw.) In a sense, there is no equivalent in RL to equate a 'naked' furry to, since they are clearly distinguished from human. The same might be argued for other non-Terran creatures which are markedly different from human avatars. As far as the prudishness goes, one has to accept it exists in some areas and live with it, even if they do not think the same way, just as one must be willing to accept whatever standards are set by any sim they go to. (The whole Gorean debate comes to mind here, and my reasoning was the same there). Here's an experiment though. Make skin textures that look like clothing and go "naked" with that skin on. I don't think you'll have any problems, because the perception of nudity wont be there (Read: You won't be violating the spirit of the law) |

I was warned previously by a Linden for nudity at Waterhead. Fair enough rules are rules I should abide by them. I therefore designed myself some skin tight and skin coloured clothing. These items of clothing are ever so slightly different to my skin colour and therefore obvious after a more than cursory glance that I am indeed dressed.
I must say under these circumstances I find my ban puzzling. I am actually revealing far less flesh than many other people and could walk through any country in the real world perfectly legally with the exeption of maybe 1990's Afghanstan.
If its legal for me in real life to walk round on a beach in front of children in certain clothes then why is it illegal in sl pg areas. Are the sl pg laws stricter than the rl ones?
If i tattoo my skin with a denim textue can I then enter PG areas nude?
If I tattoo my skin with denim texture and then put on my skin coloured clothes will I then be disciplined?
Why can animals walk round nude? The same rules should apply to all!
I feel strongly that I was banned because I got into a small arguement with a Linden who knew I had the better of him and was unable to answer any of my questions and appeals with any other answer than "Do as I say or else!"
I since appealled to the Abuse Manger and have received no reply whatsoever. Does this mean that there is no adequate appeal system in place?
If so then sl and the people who run it are no better than dictators and the world we all thought was so free and liberating is actually far more restricted than my everyday real life!

I believe its not the only time he had run in withthe abuse report system....... that is what might have made the differance..... Gesh coming here scream drama and for waht? attention? gesh if he followed rules and did not walk in to the wa naked, and water area as well naked and his trolling people as well. Then maybe he would not be in this deep of poop of a problem. He got waht was coming to him........
