As to OnArt, I've had no less than three opportunities to deal with MarmelaGramela and each occasion was very positive.

This has been my experience with OnArt as well. Nothing less than perfect and amiable.

"It would also surprise me if there weren't other places with ban lines right next to OnArt property, and I bet they're not all rewarded with bans. If they are, that would at least be consistent."

...this is very true. I just started it yesterday - so everything before that is not covered (yet). Amazing how fast it made the headlines here though. I hope it gets to some other people's attention that way too... I wouldnt mind creating ghettos for people that want to be caged in by free will, but I dont want to have to deal with their cages on my side of the river - its getting too much recently that I fly into places where you can't get in and out anymore.

And I'm not seeing a discrepancy here at all, I ban one person that bans everyone else. I normally don't ban him on any other parcel than there, so it's a clear 1:1. My remark about banning him on another 600 parcels is because of the gutter style post where he obviously titulates me as asshole - and sorry, in such cases I strike back, and that very persistantly.

As one of Marmela's "Happy Campers", I have to say I find this all very amusing. Marmela is one of the easiest and nicest poeple to deal with in SL. Even the rental agent who runs properties on the other side of my plot says so. If this schmuck has done something to piss Marmela off, and she replied in kind, then I am certain he deserved it.

As for my land - I am making a real effort to meet my neighbors, and to make my land nice. Anyone is welcome to drop by. I only ask you dont go in my house when I am not there. If I am there, I will be happy to give you a tour.

SL has room for all types. Privacy freaks can live in sealed skyboxes at 500m. Me, I'm happy with my little hilltop cabin. Drop by sometime, the view from the Gazebo is great.

Well, if it's actually being applied equally then I am cautiously in favour, seeing as how I can't stand blanket bans. I've been bounced off a plot just across the sim boundary from me in Albuleta a million times, lost vehicles etc etc (coincidentally a lot of this land is now owned by OnArt). Don't even get me started on the... person... who put up a Psyke Defence Thing that shouts at people who go on my balloon tour.

One would hope though that people are actually being told of the reasons why they're banned from nearby land, otherwise there's not a lot of point.

I think also that many newbies really don't see that blanket bans might cause anyone else a problem. It's something that needs to be pointed out.

Agree completely. I think this is the core of the problem.

I've helped a few new residents browse for first land in my time. One thing I've noticed, is that one of the first things many do is turn on the parcel security, banning all but themselves. I think part of the reason is a psychological need to establish 'Territory'.

When you turn on security like that, you do not see the ban lines yourself. If you are not banned, you don't see the red bars. If you are, you do. Consequently, the land owner never sees the red bars, and has a hard time understanding the full scope of the problem - especially if you're new.

Personally, I think one possible solution to this problem - is to make the Red Bars visible to the landowner when selecting global bans. Don't make them actually ban the landowner of course - but make them visible. That way, its immediately clear what the implications are.

Welcome to SL, people do wander around, privacy on the mainland does not exist and you don't own anything outside of what you don't pay for, people can do anything they want with their own land, and you either deal with it, or buy an island, or rent from somewhere like Azure, or Dreamland where it's all zoned, and people get kicked out for doing obnoxious things

I guess you haven't realized the power of the alt+zoom (camera controls) & how there *really* isn't any privacy in SL?

Being online for 10 years obviously hasn't improved your spelling ability.

Your last quote about your sea view is an open invitation to every single griefer who reads it to go and mess with your view (which you don't own, by the way).
