From: Chri5 Somme I think they should put the creators of SLx on the frontpage of Second Life. In my opinion they've done 10 times more then Anshe has. I guess they would need to be in a popular business magazine though. Why should it be in a popular business magazine? There are so many great people contributing so much to SL that are nothing to do with "making money" - they're here for fun, and will continue to be here long after the markets crash and those making a profit have stopped, and gone off to make money somewhere else. Just telling people that they can "make money" here rather than mentioning any of the many other great things that SL offers is greatly undermining its potential, IMHO. Lewis

Lewis i was being sarcastic when i said "they would need to be in a popular business magazine". I agree with you though, there is so much more to market rather than making money. Like what about experimental physics projects with SL physical objects, intro to programming and learning basic logic with SL scripting, seeing how objects interact with eachother. The list goes on and on. I've heard of some people in SL finding a partner, getting together, and actually getting married in RL all because of SL. Why not advertise that?? Find love in SL? There's so many possibilities aside from making money that SL is losing out on other aspects of a market. They're only attracting people who want to make money.

From: Summer Carmichael You sound like a whining jackass too. I'd say it to anyone's face if. Have you ever heard of Kohlberg’s theory? He says that there are 3 levels to a person. The first level of moral thinking is that generally found at the elementary school level. Usually level 1 is people that show selfishness, level 1 people are also usually asociated with being a sociopath (aka. psychopath.. most cerial killers never make it past level 1). I'd say you're still at level 1 for making selfish comments, thats pretty rude to just say "you sound like a whining jackass". That is totally a selfish comment because you don't think about anyone elses welfare but yourself, making degrading comments certainly doen't do anything for anyone. Maybe it satisfies your knacking lust and thirst to make grade 1 childish replies to someone saying something that has nothing to do with you..

From: Chri5 Somme Since naming names is not aloud I will have to try and say this with other words so here i go... Is anyone else getting sick of seeing "you know who" on the homepage of secondlife.com? I'm talking about the girl on the business week article that is dated may 1st, 2006. It's been 2 months now, time for a little change? I think so.
SL please update your homepage and make it more recent, we're sick of seeing the stupid yellow, red, and white business week article with your glamour girl on the cover. Yeah! Why haven't they put up a pic of another resident who's made the cover of a national magazine? After all, the home page is the first thing prospective new players see, so why should they just have a pic of a successful SL entrepreneur who made the cover of a national magazine prominently displayed? It's not right! It's been too whole months already! I'm sure there have been many other national cover stories of SL residents we could put up to entice new people to join up. I know of a few residents we could nominate for the cover of National Whiners Weekly. Heck, there could be a new one every week and we probably wouldn't ever run out. That would attract a lot new people to the game, I'm sure.

You repeatedly called Anshe a "girl" in a fairly derogatory way. You called the cover of a magazine "stupid". And after posting what looked like an elementary school whine session, you feel free to diagnose other people's level of maturity? LOL. Maybe you should point your vast knowledge of psychology at yourself for a while.

That would attract a lot new people to the game, I'm sure. Making money is not the only thing that is a measure of 'success' in SL. I have seen some amazing builds which would put most of us to shame, that get little to no exposure. If I had come to SL blindly and the first thing I had seen was "you can make money" without any mention whatsoever of the creativity, social aspect, building, etc... I'd probably not have bothered. Thankfully I saw beyond the marketing rubbish and decided to give SL the benefit of the doubt... and discovered there was plenty here for me to enjoy without even the slightest distraction of making my fortune here. How many people have been enticed here with dollar signs in their eyes, discovered you can't actually make any money without a lot of work, skill, and usually upfront capital - then go off elsewhere when they realise its not worth the bother? SL is badly marketed and undersold by its one track scheme. It may work in the USA where people are easily swayed by such things - but if they want real worldwide success they'll have to do a lot better than that, especially when magazines like "Business Week" are meaningless to those outside of the USA which, surprisingly enough, is actually the vast majority of the real world. From: PetGirl Bergman Lewis please start taking pics of nice things you see and find in SL and show us. Don't have pictures but you could look on the map for a collection of 6 sims, Saggitaria is the one name I remember, it's built with all sorts of transport and roads and its just a very good build. There's also the Caledon sims, which are well known too. I tend not to particularly note when I see something nice, but I'll make a point of trying to. Lewis

From: Michael Seraph Um, what?
The original post was childish. Just wondering how I "repeatedly" called anshe a girl in a derogatory way, i only count calling her "girl" twice and if you could have heard my tone of voice in real life you would quickly realize how inaccurate you are. If you would read the forum TOS you would realize that naming names is not aloud and that is why I had to give a description wtih other words such as I did. I can't say "Anshe C(insert full name here)" because some LL might take things a little too serious and delete my post for naming names. and wth? Whine session? seems like you're arguing a slippery slope, a lot of people agree with what I said. The SL homepage is out of date and we'd appreciate it if SL would advertise other aspects of itself instead of just a "business investment etc". There's more to life then making money, especially in Second Life. So in light of everything that has been said, what do you care? If you don't have anything to say that has anything to do with the original topic at hand then why post? You're just wasting my time, other peoples time, bandwidth, and webspace.

From: Merlyn Bailly Not to mention getting the newsletter, SECOND EDITION, up to the current month -- it's JULY, already. They did finally update the newsletter (June edition), but now that it's JULY, where's the JULY edition?

From: Lewis Nerd Yes, let's see some articles about people who are making a difference to Second Life - instead of those who are merely making a difference to their bank balance.
There aren't any? Well promote some. Or make our own. Grief there must be thousands of people playing SL who are making a positive impact that could be covered in a "news article". Remember the 99.9999999999999999% that don't make the media but are in no way less valid contributors to the SL experience.
Lewis Yes, and you aren't one them. So sad. So very sad.

Didn't they change the page during the 3rd year b'day thing? Maybe they just restored the page to an older one after that.

Whatsername can dish it out much better than that. I seriously doubt she would be bothered. She called my alt a "stupid newbie" once. (With anyone else I would be worried about that fact revealing my secret identity. But I'm confident that doesn't narrow it down for her at all!!)

From: Jennyfur Peregrine Yes, and you aren't one them. So sad. So very sad. Lots of people agree with me on many points - even admitting sometimes that its hard to agree with me but they do - but I would say that means my finger is much closer to the 'pulse' of Second Life than many Lindens... and as what I do is purely for everyone's enjoyment rather than to make a profit I'd say that I was worth more to SL than you. I suggest that EVERY 300.000 and more avas shall be on the front page.. FROM NOW! It are possible by using a database (?).. and al will be seen once or twice a week.. by a system that changes the front pic.. every time you load that page.. as most company does.. Then al will be famous a sec or two every week.. The ones that dont have any pic in the profile will of course be changed into a huge Second Life Hand or something else.. time for creativity here! And as I AM THE INVENTOR of this EXAKT new system I will of course be on the front page extra many times.. what? Democrati? - Yes of course! - My one!.-))) /Tina - UPP TILL KAMP!

This thread does not seem to generating productive discussion or education about Second Life.
It looks rather like a series of personal attacks.
