I'd state my opinions here, but I'm pretty sure I've made 'em clear in plenty of other threads. :)

If I cannot make my green dot disappear, I would at least like the ability to disguise it as somebody else's green dot.

Like maybe the Dixie Chick's green dot?

I'm strongly for better privacy controls in a generic sense.

However, I believe these features should be limited to Instant Messaging/Find. I'm thinking of something along the lines of what Yahoo Messenger has today: Show as Offline, Online, Show as Online only to specific people.

I'm also not too supportive of the whole 'remove the green dot' thing. And I'm strongly against the idea of having folks appear completely invisible (invis & no name tag) or invisible to scripts in world.

I understand that if someone really wants to find you, they will. I'm cool with that. What I'm not cool with, is that when I log on, everyone on my friends list gets a notification that "Travis Lambert is Online". The problem is that there are many folks out there who take this sort of message as an invitation.

It amazes me sometimes just how many IMs I can get stacked up with before the world has even finished rezzing around me as I log in.

Exactly Travis. I don't want to sound like I dont appreciate those kind of messages because I do. It just would be kinda cool to log on quietly , answer old IMs, respond to notecards etc.. then switch your online button and get all that good stuff from ppl greeting as you come :)

What is it with you and your obsession with making me more like the Dixie Chicks?!?!

Privacy controls could be a good thing, if done right. I would support the following:

1) Land owners being able to set their land to radar-disabled, thus allowing people not to show on mini-maps while in those areas.

2) The ability to set an invisible mode, so that your online presence is hidden by default.

3) The ability to allow particular friends to see when you are on and track you, even when invisible.

4) The ability to disallow particular people from ever seeing you, even if not in invisible mode.

5) A possible whisper option, which works like shout, only it reduces the range the speech is heard. (Partially redundant with IM option and groups, but more versatile)

I don't support the option for a player to hide their radar signature carte blanche, because there is no expectation of privacy in a generally public area, although if they rent a patch of land, I would support an option for the land owner to turn over radar options to the renter, allowing them control over their sub-rented land.
