  1. ResMods were hand picked without reading the majority of their posting history.
  2. ResMods were not asked if they wanted the job.
  3. ResMods were put in a position of having to deal with the fourms without specific guidelines that made them feel comfortable in moderating these forums.
  4. We had one ResMod post a very inflammatory letter to the forums, upon quitting.
  5. We have ResMods who should not be judging anyone.
  6. We have threads being moved.
  7. We have accidental warning being sent out.
  8. We lost the ability to rate our own threads.
  9. We lost the ability to see who is also reading the forums.
  10. Now we have a poster being singled out.

1. I'd have to say FACT, if not for everyone, then for a large percentage of them.
2. We know this was FACT
3. Yup, knowing how fluffly LL are, it's a FACT-A-RINO
4. FACT
5. Holy moly, that's FACT-A-RIFFIC!
6. FACT
7. Based on what was said by 4, that's a BIG TEN, FACT FINDERS
8. 5 star FACT
9. FACT, but not sure it's related to ResMods?
10. Dunno. Often happens. Justice is often swift, blind and ridiculous here on the forums :) And y'all can roll that up and smoke it :D Couldn't care less.

But basically, for once, Martin/Catherine is pretty spot on. I think hell froze over, pigs have flown and I'm feeling a mighty big disturbance in the force. Either that, or it's my 3rd beer and I'm excited because My Name Is Earl has just come on.

9. We lost the ability to see who is also reading the forums.

That one happened yesterday, actually:

Modifications to the forums.

In an attempt to further tweak the performance of our forums, I have turned off the display of "Who's currently viewing this." Hopefully this will let more people get to the actual posting and viewing faster, during outages.

I buy that account, given we've seen three outages in the last few days, only one of which was planned. The forums are pretty hard to read when so many people are online.

Dear Mr or Mrs. Wu,

I am delighted to be selected for your Resident Moderator Oversight Commitee. I fully intend to execute my duties based entirely on chaos theory making occasional exceptions for bribery and nepotism.

I understand some people will criticize the Resident Moderator Oversight Commitee as ill-willed, ill-conceived, irresponsible, the result of favoritism, or utter and complete parody. I will work very hard to dismiss their valid points of view as mere jealousy for not being selected.

I know times will become difficult for this commitee, but I know we can rely on Torley to show users the positive side of what we are trying to do!

Sincerely,
Amy Weebler

A few comments on this topic…

The ResMod program is a new experiment to make the SL Forums a true community project and to put Residents in leadership positions where they are able to help define and shape a strong, positive community; as has been the goal of Second Life since its inception. The future success of Second Life will depend on the degree to which people are willing to participate not only as members of the community, but also as leaders.

Because Second Life is not a game, but instead a vivid, growing virtual space, leadership is very important. We are trying to give Residents the opportunity to take care of themselves and while we don’t to “police” the forums ourselves, we also don’t want to let the forums languish in anarchy without attention. With your help, we will continue to make refinements to the program, until we have found the balance - please keep the feedback coming.

This week I’ve witnessed a great deal of unhappiness with the ResMod program and the idea of moderation in the forums in general. This unhappiness seems to be directed, unfairly, at the first group of moderators who are helping us with this experiment. I would suggest to anyone who has a strong reaction to this program to take time to reconsider and try to give it a chance, at least long enough for us to learn more about what works best for the whole SL Forum community.

Sometimes in the heat of a passionate discussion you may be tempted to say something that upon reflection you will regret. Please try to be constructive in your feedback about the program, which should help us all make the best choices in the long run.

This statement is in direct conflict to Robin's comments that we will not be subjected to resident goverment as paying customers. By elevating a select group of people among us to have power over others, you are in effect subjecting us to a government - and one we had no vote in at all. We have not elected any of these people to leadership roles - it is absolutely ridiculous to force this upon us.

02 - Fiction (acceptance implies being asked)

Fact, not fiction. They were put up as the first wave without being asked.
All I have heard out of the mouths of the res-mods is that some were "volunteered" without actually volunteering.

One of them wrote a post about saying that it was a surprise to be put forward when they did not volunteer. They also mentioned how they thought about it and went back and forth on it and eventually decided to do it.

Thus they "accepted" or did not decline or however you want to put it. Thus it's Fiction.

There were several people who were listed as Resident Moderators who did not apply and were unaware. They were listed as being Resident Moderators already - and had to decline to stop being a resident moderator - not accept to become one. Thus, it is not fiction. It is opting out, not opting in.

Dunno bout anyone else - but I think my critisisms were directed pretty fairly..

If they wanna weild the stick - they gotta also take the odd kick in the nuts - thats life.

Weilding the big stick then hiding behind mommies leg when they see the boot swing back ain't exactly what I look for in a leader.

And as for me - I'll never follow a 'leader' in a 'virtual space' I pay to participate in. Ain't gonna happen.

I don't think you'll ever have a 'community' - 'communites' perhaps of likeminded people that will form of their own accord - having a blueprint community thrust on them.... destined to fail.

please note: the complaints has been about ll's leadership (which has been lacking in the planning stage in this case), the method of chosing these forums "leaders" (there are glaring problems with some of these people's posting histories).

that is such a "spin" response. some of the resmods actually did somethings that are objecitonable. but beyond that... most of the criticism has been focused at the program. that the resmods have been mentioned is unavoidable as they are currently part of the problem.

Thats called not asking. So fact, not fiction.

Jeska, I say again..

My constructive criticism is to dismantle the entire resmod system. Find something that isn't resident watching resident. Something where your abuse reports are kept confidential.

There will be many more trolls and stalkers because the ARs are no longer confidential.

Jeska: "I know you didn't volunteer, but do you want to be a res-mod?"

Candidate: "Hmmmm... , I guess I'll give it a shot."

Jeska: "Great! We really need people like you." *smiles sweetly*

*hint* the italics part in the first statement is the "asking" part, but in retrospect I think the facts have nothing to do with this thread (or any of the res-mod threads), so I won't belabor the point any further. :)

You continue to miss the point, even now with your made up conversation. There was no asking. They made people forum moderators without asking, and released the list of names. People who did not want to be had TO OPT OUT OF IT by asking to be removed. That is a fact. You keep trying to spin that they were asked - they were not, unless you count already being made a moderator without a word as asking somehow.
