They should name the regions, but like George Foreman's male heirs, they should all be named the same thing to confuse people.

you know, i suppose i should've just done a forum search myself to begin with, eh? heheh

anyhoo, i just did suxh a search and it seems that Agni is the name of the Main (as opposed to Teen) grids world name, like Earth is the name of our RL world.

so, it seems we have our gridverse (as Torley puts it :)) named, but then we skip continents (gridinents, as i put it :p) and go right down to sims, which are like small towns. some regions have names or implied names, as mentioned before.. such as Nova Albion or Hidden Lakes.

thanks for the link

I've been thinking about this for a while too. The continents need names! Even if there aren't official names, even if they don't show on the map, we as a community should come up with some common-use continent names. Even if we are a childish community, it's worth the effort.

Most geography in SL is named after the sim it's in. Or in the case of rivers, forests, ski lifts, and such, the sim they start in. But that just doesn't work for continents.

The big problem with names like 'north continent' is that we keep getting more land. Someday there could be another continent north of it. Then it won't be the north continent at all. It really will need a name, and the sooner it's chosen the better. The main continent too... depending on how things get drawn, some of the newer continents might be larger, and one of them might come to be thought of as the 'main' continent, more central to the majority of residents. It seems clear today that the next continent will be south so we're safe for a few months... but we're gaining over 1000 new residents per day; it's only a matter of time before things grow and grow and grow. If we don't choose continent names now and start using them, a bunch of newbies will do it for us next year, when they outnumber us.

The continent to the north has been named Atoll by LL since early on. In the inventory library, the textures from and objects made for that continent can be found in folders labelled Atoll. I seem to remember one or two Lindens, most likely Ben, indicating that it already had a name in threads at the time which suggested that it needed to be named. :) I tend to refer to the main body as the mainland because it's the original place where it began. It is Esselle, the others came later.

This is a good thread and therefore, deserves a bump!

However, why put "Poll:" in the name when it puts it there for you? :p
