Moving the interactive map to a button was a great idea, I can load the site a lot faster now and I always appricate that sort of improvement. The spread of people seems good, a lot of hip types and a good bit of diversity... I sort of wish there were more people up there of the professional sort (suits/ labcoats ) and a bit more ethnic diversity but its good, its clean and its smooth :)

The new teen grid button is nice and noticable... though I think you should just call it "Teen-life" or "Second puberty" (kidding)

All and all I like it.

I note there are screenshots "powered by Flickr". Wasn't it Flickr that was having some kind of fit about people storing screenshots instead of photographs?

Nice to not have the map, I hated it.

They just don't make them part of public profiles.. They still allow you to upload them.

As far as I know, they haven't backed down from their policy, though they may have become more lenient after getting negative press about it. It has something to do with the percentage of regular photos to screen shots in your account as to whether or not they will appear in public searches. Pretty stupid, I think, though I suppose it does make sense in keeping with the spirit of Flickr.

I think they should put a plywood box on the front page with the words, "It's your world, your imagination, so use it!"

I do like the new front page, although the layout of the avatars seem more super-heroic than building and such;)

Thank goodness!!!

I have my browser security settings a bit on the high side and I would invariably have to answer or close three dialog boxes (all caused by the map) just to be able to click any link on the page. The map I certainly could do without.

Love it.

Same stuff, just a different screen arrangement really.

One day they'll actually promote things other than "come and make money here", and show the creativity and imagination of the players.

A picture of a few avatars (of which there are probably a thousand clones running round in the same shop-bought skins, clothing and accessories) does not show the full potential of Second Life, neither does the Business Week article.

It's more than a different arrangement. The map no longer loads automatically and that to me is a big improvement in itself.

I've been saving bookmarks of other pages so I can bypass the main page ... all this only because of the map. I'd rather not have to do this.

Please feel free to show how it should be done, and capture the full potential of SL into a single picture for all to see.

This is a huge improvement. I would of joined sl a year sooner than I did if it had a hot pic instead of the map. As it was, I saw the map and figured it must be crap.

I agree and have one of his dragons...and also, if I may, Wynx's stuff blows my mind.

I know there are TONS of awesome AV creators tho.

Oh, but it's so much easier to sit around and complain and be negative about everything instead of actually DOING something. That sounds like effort would be required!

I can understand complaining and disagreement, but unless you bring new ideas and possible solutions to the table, it's whining. Bring some better ideas and it's constructive criticism. :-)

I like the change. The map was SLOW, even on a 3.6ghz machine with 3 gigs of ram. Leaving that behemoth up while saying people weren't signing up because of the credit card requirement was quite a paradox. I like the map as an option, but forcing it on the front page reminded me of the thing I hate most on web pages: when video and/or audio automatically start playing without a click.

Regards,

-Flip
