why dont guns work in sl

The problem with combat is that nowadays, people either:

1. Use nukes. No skill required, and annoying as feck to everyone.
2. Use shieldbreakers. Ridiculously overpowered, and also annoying as feck.
3. Use auto targeting auto killers (Psitec comes to mind) absolutely NO skill required, and shield-proof.
4. ORBITERS! Killing someone is one thing, orbiting them and crashing their client seems more like a DoS to me.

Aww, I want one too! :D Believe it or not, I do occasionally get a bit frustrated with pianos :)

I would suggest getting yourself a scripted combat system but the ones i've seen are only for swords and katanas. If one exists for guns then GL. I know of a few scripted combat systems that have health bars and when you die you actually fall down and die, To be revived shortly.

This is the best way to go IMO cuz if you do not wish to participate don't wear the system. :p

Oh idea, i could make use of it too. Lets list names of some good combat systems. I will start. Of course they need to be fair ones. Also if you can, include where to get/buy it.

Aura Combat System - Found in Renfest Island (Free)
Samurai Island Combat System - Found in Samurai Island (Free)

Thats all that i know of.

i seriously wish they didn't make weapons in second life... well the scripted ones anyway. it's tiresome having to totally remake objects just because someone decided to use me as a test subject in a sandbox... especially when that sandbox has a HUGE sign (which i like to build under) that says NO WEAPONS.



I bet 50% of active sl participants would rarely be on then. Do you really believe we have over 100 thousand residents in SL?? No we don't. I've never seen this place with more than a coupld of thousand. That's due to multiple avatars by each person. If SL would cancel guns- watch this place decrease in amount of "ACTIVE" participants.

There was a situation at a salon the other day... lots of friendly happy people browsing for hair and chatting, when some freakishly huge guy in a hood and mask comes flyin' in just as fast as his heavily armoured butt could propel him, and starts shooting up the place.

No one even really reacted. Those of us on posing stands just stayed there, a few people just stepped onto the nearest one, there were a few "wtf??"s, but then he was gone, and it was as if it never happened. Just right back into "Ooooh! Piggies! I have to try those..."

It was slightly disturbing because griefing is so just commonplace lately that it hardly ruffled a flexi-prim.

(But still amusing because, well, when there is new hair to be had, nothing phases a hair addict.)

In theory, if you find an empty area on the map (look particularly around the map edge for new, unsold sims that have been set up), you and your friends can run around and blast each other as much as you like - however, if you should happen to shoot an innocent passer-by, you are at risk of being abuse reported by them. I'm sorry Lewis but no, take it from someone whose land has been used for this purpose plenty of times. If you wanted to have a paintball fight in the real world would you just pick someone's random front yard to do it in just because it looked like they weren't home to complain? I keep the area around my mall open and green and attractive. Three times in the last two months someone has decided this would be the perfect place for a shootout just because it looks empty. Twice I logged in to the sounds of gun blasts and got rid of them myself and one time I logged in to a complaint from one of my renters that the shooters next door were lagging the sim and if this was a common thing she would be leaving.

It so happens that this land belongs to my partner but if it didn't and it was just empty land that belonged to no one, the problem would still be mine to deal with when shooters come and disrupt business.

I like the occasional firefight as much as anyone else but there are places set up for it and those are the ONLY places it should be done. The only time it is acceptable (IMO) to fire off weapons is either in a combat sim or on your own land that you personally own. The only time I shoot my partner (*smiling at memories of blasting him across the sim and running for my life* :) ) is when it is the right time and place and with consideration for neighbors.

Interesting that no one has pointed out why guns are not "working" now. Many guns currently available are based on the Push function, which was useable almost anywhere to cause serious annoyance by knocking people around. But this was made opt-in in the most recent major update. So on most parcels around SL you can no longer just drop in on people and attack them.

I'm sure gun-makers will eventually catch up and find new ways of allowing you to grief innocent bystanders but most of the guns on the market now are nerfed.

Here is the relevant info on the llPushObject function from the LSL Wiki:

As of version 1.11.1 (1) of Second Life, pushing can be set to "restricted" on a parcel by the land owner. This stops llPushObject from being used upon avatars other than the owner of the script (self-pushing is still allowed). Scripts owned by the land owner can still use llPushObject on any avatar, and pushing of non-avatar objects is unaffected.

I'm not surprised. "You can't please all the people all the time." This holds especially true on the internet. No matter what you do, SOMEONE will complain.

In most online games (not implying that SL is a game) theres specified areas where PVP is alowed (arenas, battlegrounds, unsafe zones), and it isn't allowed anywhere else unless its consentual by a menu. Getting LL to restrict push is just our way of making SL to be like that. If you wish to PK people go to a combat enabled sandbox or use a scripted consentual system. Leave the inocent alone... When i play online games where PVP is global and forced on me i usually quit and uninstall.

During my stay i make sure i stay perfectly far away from any other player because i hate PVP combat. This takes away from the social aspect of the game. The reason i hate it is cuz of those people who PK you reguardless to your level or what your doing. I find it very anoying to be crafting something and some idiot comes up and kills me. I would never sell my wares to that person either. Those are people i consider to be a griefer. That is why i abuse report them in SL when they do this.
