ive bought a gun in sl thinking i can use it for fun when needed, but it doesnt work, i mean if everyone is worried about being shot whats the point in guns being on sale in sl, and surely there could be places they can be used?

Use it when needed? You mean randomly on people who may not necessarily want to be shot?

Go to Jessie. It's a sim for people who like to shoot people and who ostensibly enjoy being shot at.

Some things are made just for show out of only prims. Some things are made with scripts so that they'll be functional. You need to check if the item you are buying is scripted or not. You can also try contacting the creator or seller of the weapon and ask them.

And the other advice is correct, only use weapons where weapons are allowed. It can be fun in the right time and place to have a shootout with your friends. Shoot the wrong people though and you'll find yourself banned from your favorite places.

The point of guns being on sale in Second Life is to make a profit for the seller. There are a few places where you can use them as the other posters pointed out but I hate to tell you that Second Life isn't a first person shooter game. I know that may be hard to believe...

guns are fun thats why i bought 1 in sl, and no i didnt buy 1 to shoot just anyone, i bought 1 because i thought there would be certain times when i could use it, LIKE THE REAL WORLD, as in sl its much the same as the real world anything goes, eccept guns in a lot of cases, there should be gun only places, maybe NO GO AREAS were guns are used.and yes i know SL isnt a 1st person shooter, but the idea here is to have fun, there must be places were people collect and have a good old shoot out? this place is massive, and fantastic.....

This is how it is now in SL.

Thus working as intended.

Play the game more instead of complaining just cause you happen to be on a push restircted area.

i seriously wish they didn't make weapons in second life... well the scripted ones anyway. it's tiresome having to totally remake objects just because someone decided to use me as a test subject in a sandbox... especially when that sandbox has a HUGE sign (which i like to build under) that says NO WEAPONS.

Weapons are only fun if you are choosing to use them and agree to others using them on you.

That's why there are designated combat area where you can have a free-for-all shootout with other consenting players. Otherwise, shooting innocent passers-by can be disruptive and annoying, and your right to use weapons stops just before the right of those who do not wish to be affected by them.

As well as Rausch and Jessie, you might like to look up the appropriately named "Carnage Island" which is a player-created shoot-up arena modelled around an urban scene.

Like many others, I have no problem with people running round with guns blasting each other... we just choose not to get involved.

There are some Sandboxes that are NoScript areas. That means you can build, but no script works there. Ways around that, but the average idiot won't know how. If you're only building solid builds, then I highly suggest trying a NoScript Sandbox.

To the OP:
There are more and more Combat Sims popping up every day. Rauch and Jessie are the two ground-breakers. I know two (maybe three) more were added just recently by Clubside. Do a search and you'll find all you want and more. SL is a big place.

Guns are fun yeap, unfortunately pretty much all combat sucks as SL isn't very good at it and weapon balance is up to the creator.

That appears to be the main problem with combat sims - everyone goes for the biggest ultimate uber-weapon and shield, and anyone without the latest gadgest doesn't stand a chance. Rarely will people use 'regular' or 'fair' weapons in public weapons sandboxes.

In theory, if you find an empty area on the map (look particularly around the map edge for new, unsold sims that have been set up), you and your friends can run around and blast each other as much as you like - however, if you should happen to shoot an innocent passer-by, you are at risk of being abuse reported by them. That's partly why people either use an avatar detector HUD or the mini-map to see anyone approaching that isn't part of your group, to alleviate the risk.

Quiet frankly, there's no way to keep "open" combat sims "fair". It IS a game of who has the biggest set.

IMO, if you want to ahve fair combat, you need a combat system. One that reads hits and health and such. There are more than a few in SL. I know YadNi makes one, and I believe Clubside uses that for his combat sims (If I'm wrong there, sorry Club. Not been to the sim yet).

As with the rest of SL, the combat side has different tastes. Some like to see who can create the "ubber-shield" and "ubber-shield-breaking-gun" to match. OThers prefer a contest of tactical skill. *shrugs* Find what you want.

Search is your friend =^.^=

LOL SL is nothing like IRL.

Guns are just a simple item to decorate your AV with.

But anyways...the best 'weapons' in-game don't even look anything like an irl gun.

So you buy guns in the real world with the hope and expectation of using it sometime to shoot someone? Is that what you mean in that statement?

If you mean by in the real word there being shooting ranges where you can target practice or something more like a painball area then there are such SIMs in Second Life. However, as in the REAL WORLD you can not just go around shooting when you feel it's right because there laws against it (and now in Second Life push restrictions - YAY!).

Try Anarchy Online or Lineage2 or the pluthera of other MMO's out there where you can go kill people. Second Life is not for you in this respect. Guns don't make you look cool or make you all tough. All guns do in Second Life is make people aware your a possible griefer and watch you close.

Go to a PvP SIM Linden Lab set up for you to shoot your gun if you want to shot. Don't complain because you can't open fire when YOU think the time is right. =/

*sighs*
