"Those" people! - not bothered in the least
The User Interface grows on you and becomes Second Nature The inventory system has been steadily improving so now it's quite easy for me to use. The weekly updates don't bother me even if the downtime is always on my prime time. It's really just the griefers which thankfully I have not had to deal with for the last 2 months. I would rather some bugs go away but they don't damage my experience anywhere near how griefers do. Their relative absense from my experience doesn't mean something else will take first place. _____________________

Fungus grows on you too and I suppose you could get used to it but honestly SL has the worst UI that I have ever seen. Ugly colors you can't change (can you?), inconsistant menu and button functions, ugly popup menus that are in a totally different color family and on and on. Arrgh. Tess |

How about the buttons that cut off the right end of the text (even when set to the smallest size) so that say "Adjust Right" and "Adjust Red" would both only look like "Adjust R"... Tess |

That poll list is way too short.
Mostly though, the sweeping inability to understand what Second Life is in the first place. Including by many of the Lindens. _____________________

I did struggle a bit in choosing what poll items to add. Hopefully those with other big dislikes will note them as you did in their posts. So tell me, what is Second Life in the first place? Tess |

altho usefull things get added during patches, i dont like how it seems like no matter what the acutall SL experiance seems to take a step backwards (horrbile lag @ first, scads of new annoying bugs to add to the list, and lower performance)

So tell me, what is Second Life in the first place? As a concept, Second Life is an effort to bring Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash, as well as many other works of fictional "otherworlds" into reality. As a reality, Second Life is a highly closed system built over proprietary software and the concept of a unified system that may or may not scale. Most statements that Second Life is "like the internet" are immediately false, by virtue of the internet not existing on one unified collection of machines. In layman's terms, there's a huge gap between what Second Life is and what many (most?) people think it is. In its current form, Second Life is more comparable to an AOL-like mindset than an open, free, distributed platform. The Lindens have attempted to play it both ways, only to find they can't. So, if anything is necessary, it's a better decision-making process. _____________________

I picked griefers. I can handle people... I just stay away from them.

hmm I keep hearing snow crash.. yes i've read it.. but there are books written before that that have mentioned something similiar to this.. I say Snow Crash because the Lindens point to it almost exclusively as the inspiration. I absolutely agree that it is not the be all, end all. Wow. And here I was thinking SL was just a fun game with lots of people at the same time and with tools for making virtual stuff to play with. And "fun game with tools to build?" If that's all it became... well. Then LL successfully created yet another MMOG instead of their original goal. ![]() _____________________

What I dislike the most has nothing to do with Lindens Labs. It is people wearing strobe lights all over themselves like they are expecting an airplane to land on them.

Myself, I voted for (or is that against) the interface. I have only ever experienced one instance of griefing and it was so obvious from the griefer the instant he arrived on the scene that there was going to be griefing that it was simply dealt with.
On the other hand using SL's interface is like banging your head against doors to open them. Eventually you will get used to it. You won't have gone through as many doors as you wanted to but you will accept the situation and move on. Anything we MUST use constantly should be easier to use and much more intuitive. Tess |
