The reason I don't want to verify my recent alt is that I already have several other alts, and LL only allows us to have five (verified) accounts per household. I don't feel like lying about other things on the account (like my address or name) just to register another alt on a different credit card. Why not just use one of my verified alts, one might ask - I made this latest alt because it's a name very similar to my RL maiden name (one letter off) when the last name became available recently. So chalk it up to personal or sentimental reasons.

I've heard that players who have too many verified alts in their household can contact LL and ask them to kill off an older alt and verify a new alt. However, I paid for my verified alts, and even paid monthly fees for them since they are old enough to have been created before the free accounts. I'm not sure why we have the "five accounts per household" rule in place, except maybe to keep people from getting around the US$2000 amount an account can run through LindeX each month, and I'd think there would be other ways to get around that.

I totally understand why people want to limit unverified accounts' ability to grief on their land. I just think there are other reasons people get unverified accounts than to grief, and businesses who restrict them from their land could be losing out on money. (I don't generally wander around "private" residences in SL with my alt, so in my case I'm talking about "public places" like malls, parks, clubs, etc.)

On top of that, (and this isn't just opinion), any vendor selling mature merchandise needs to filter off something now to cover his backside legally, and CC information is the only thing they can use that carries legal weight.

Have to disagree there.... Having payment info on file and even used doesnt mean that someone is of age.

You can't disagree with something I didn't say. ;)

You're right, having CC info is not absolute proof of age. What's important is that vendors of mature merchandise need to show they took reasonable effort to avoid selling to minors to defend against legal charges of negligence and corrupting children, and checking for CC info is A) good enough in the eyes of the law for that purpose, and B) the only such check currently available.

Giving people warning that they are entering a mature area should be sufficient.

This is a serious legal issue. It isn't about what "should be" sufficient. It's about what is.

Oh, and I Am Not A Lawyer.
