slstats.com, as described over and over in these multiple threads, is a useless diagnostic of travel, visitation, and social groups in Second Life. It is not pervasive and does not have effective market penetration. It is not effective surveillance, or a useful tool for business techniques. It is an interesting curio, not worth the worry or continuing opt-in/opt-out arguments.
Naturally, that's all opinion.

From: nimrod Yaffle All they would know about someone who was not wearing the watch is how long they spent with someone. The inverse side of this problem is those of us alone, wandering the sims, with proof of our alone-ness in that database. We sadly sigh, wondering what it would be like to meet Ordinal, and learn the Steampunkery contained in that noggin. Later, short on water, we begin to hallucinate and as the centers of reason of our minds loosen, we begin to wish we could meet panadastrong.

From: nimrod Yaffle Sorry, just realized I had all the cluttered tabs open, ignore those! Lower left hand side shows create date, ratings, payment status, etc....so it doesn't look like he is actually removing anything...just shoving it off to one side and putting up a message that he doesn't have data. Is that info yours, Ordinal, or just left over from a previous viewing of someone else?

From: VolatileWhimsy Bu actually if you look at it, it is gathering data, look to the right of the picture maybe im wrong.. lol Hah, you're right, those are my ratings. On the other hand, that doesn't bother me, that's stuff that can be seen by anyone looking at my profile, it doesn't give any information about my activities.

oh meh, but it might get ppl all excited and i could shot someone but it is kinda rude for the gentlemen to record data about someone without giving them fair warning, (not that it bothers me personally) and than tell ppl they can opt out and actually mislead people concerning this.. :/ For the simple fact the person is presenting themself in a quesitonable manner i dont' want them anywhere near me... frigging peeping tom! but yeah if he acts shaddy i want out..

But it DOES indicate that Mark is a liar and that he is still posting ingame info of those who have opted out, regardless of what he says.

Is that info yours, Ordinal, or just left over from a previous viewing of someone else? So he removes the data from his site, and you still aren't happy?

From: nimrod Yaffle So he removes the data from his site, and you still aren't happy? He didn't remove it, its right there in the pic and Ordinal says it is from the ordinal character. Not being in his database means he shows NO info pertaining to us. He is a liar.

He is a liar. Umm, you can get that info in-world. You have major prokofy like problems. (I take that back, I kind of like Prok even though he/she/it may have his/her/it's downfalls.)

I don't want to derail another flame war, but have you guys seen Xfire? It tracks time played in your favorite game, gives you a graphic to link to forum posts so you can show others where your time goes, an out-of-game IM service, voice chat and so forth. It supports over 600 games, including Second Life. And best of all, it's completely opt-in. If you don't download it, you can't use it Just sayin'.

He is a liar. If you think the info listed there is too much, maybe you should uninstall SL and cancel your account.

(I take that back, I kind of like Prok even though he/she/it may have his/her/it's downfalls.) Nope, I expect inworld info to remain inworld. Mark told us that he was removing info on our characters, he didn't live up to his word, that makes him a liar. When that page comes up with just the name, not in the database message and --- for each of the other entries (aka, the data is removed like he said it would be), then I will accept him at his word. Until then, he did half of what he said he would do and lied about the rest. Opting out means OUT fully....not partial info left.

The only way to really solve this, that I can see, is to do this:
nimrod, find someone that does NOT return a hit at all in the slstats database.
Meet with them while wearing your watch.
Recheck the database to see if their name gives you a return.
If the name does give a return, even if it is to say "This person has opted-out." then he is infact still gathering data.
Personally, I don't see all this as a huge deal. My only worry is the owner of this database selling the list of names to someone. I'm not sure if LL has safeguards in place or not, but I worry about someone taking this list and spamming notecards.
