after seeing torley around so much as just torley it seems hard to imagine that its just another linden now. when i say just another linden its because i havent had a chance to get to know or become familiar with alot of them personally. please correct me if im wrong but dont alot of the players that cross over to lindens change theyre names? i know theres alot of blogs of sl but im not sure if any had as many hits as torleys. heres hoping that everyone respected torley enough that it never becomes an issue. best wishes upon the change

Probably not in the sense that she's a true Linden. She seems more like Hercules, child of a god, but not truly divine. I've always been very careful to treat people as Lindens when communicating with their official account and as non-Lindens when working with one of their recreational accounts. Sometimes, especially working on projects, I'll cross that line. But never in an official capacity. Lindens are sacrosanct and bound by company objectives and responsibilities. We have to respect that.
Torley didn't leave us that option. If you want to talk to her, you can only talk to her Linden account which leaves her in the position of having to always reply, and function, as a representative of the company. For her to use her account socially is a very slippery slope that would eventually get her, and Linden Lab, into hot water. _____________________

For me personally, I've always thought of Torley as a future Linden. If anyone should be a Linden it was Torley. So, this transition has been easy and like Torley has stated before, she's gonna just be her with a few extra duties now

I treat Lindens pretty much the same as I treat everyone really.. I give them a fair shake of the stick - but I also give them some shit - blow them up - fart on their heads - call them out on my radio show if they do something boneheaded - have a laugh.
Dunno, really - I've never been good with authority figures so it helps if I ignore the last name and just treat them as ppl. _____________________

future history
01-21-2006 08:36
see, there's the explanation of this phenomenon..
she always felt like a future Linden, because she WAS a future Linden. but to Torley, that's all the same cookie (or rather, watermelon ).being a future Linden allowed her past Torgeson to gel into the role without any of us quite catching on, yet preparing us for the eventuality of her current existance. plus, she's a perfect choice for a "ground-level" Linden, walking amongst the rest of us.. as one of us, yet with the authority of Linden-hood. who in their right mind would want to really challenge her new position? who wouldn't respect her? not i.. and i'm assuming not you, or you or.. YOU. congrats again Torley, you're doing a bang up job!!! _____________________

For me personally, I've always thought of Torley as a future Linden. Me too. She will wear the "Linden" title with grace as she writes her own job description. Bravo, LL. _____________________

For her to use her account socially is a very slippery slope that would eventually get her, and Linden Lab, into hot water. I would like to be in on this knowledge that you apparently have about some Lindens with their official accounts and their recreational accounts. You make it sound like such an ordinary thing, to know who the Linden alts are. At least with Torley, I know who's who, and how the non-Linden Torley treated me (with the respect due a human being) and how the Linden Torley treats me (the exact same way). And here you apparently have some knowledge abut the everyday accounts of Lindens that I don't. I wonder how many? I wonder who all knows this stuff that I don't? If a Linden is going to be "out" to some of the players as his/her regular self, I think it would be nice if they were out to ALL players in the same way. coco _____________________

I have never placed Lindens on a pedestal or saw them as any sort of sacred "them". Whoever is signing Torley's paychecks makes little difference to me, I feel as comfortable with her as any resident or any Linden. Therefore I can't say I see a difference between Torley and other Lindens.
As for future Lindens go, I always saw myself as a future Linden too (one who constantly shows up late for work and isn't a "team player" so eventually their HR department has to wait and watch for some minor infraction as a basis for my termination leaving me broke and destitute) _____________________

Torley or any Linden is the same to me. I simply treat them the same as anyone else

Is there a particular way one is meant to think of a Linden, other than as another person?

Is there a particular way one is meant to think of a Linden, other than as another person? Don't you know they are gods up on Mount Linden?? We are to look upon them with awe - but NEVER make eye contact! ![]() _____________________

Is Torley a real Linden, though... or a Lindenoid?

I can't think of Torley as just a Linden.
Torley is... more than Linden. To attempt to shove Torley in that box is a futile exercise. With that said, I'm really, really glad Torley is under Linden Lab's employ. I think that Torley's energy and vision will do a lot for their team. But like I said. Much more than Linden. This amused me today: I look at them like the ones wearing the the red shirts at your local Target store. They are just like anybody else, except they have to help me find the feminine products department when I ask them. That puts it very well, I think, although I also think that the Linden vision and mission has the power to be much more world-changing than selling Aimee a case of Tampax Pearl. ![]() _____________________

I have never placed Lindens on a pedestal or saw them as any sort of sacred "them". What is special about Torley, one of the many things it seems, is that as far as I saw she never criticized any person or anything about SL or LL. She has the reputation of friendliness with every person she encountered, and I tend to think its a well deserved reputation! Torley has no reason to hide behind an alt. _____________________

I think of Torley as less a resident or a Linden and more like a local kami, personally.

Personally I hope we never do think of Torley as a Linden. She sets a far better example than that. I'd hate to see Torley lowered to that level.
