Does this sound familiar?
The other day I was working by myself on a new build on my property. Being a person who in the physical world was taught to respect others and their property, and having done the same with my children, I refuse to use Security Orbs or even limit access to my SL property. Suddenly here I found myself airborne and dropped into the water some 250m from where I was.
Last weekend, during a celebration of my club’s 1st anniversary we were assaulted by two look alike avatars, naked save for an American flag and when they were asked to comply with dress codes or leave I was shot at and the sim was subjected to a Chat Spam and numerous objects and weapons projected at the club goers.
A good friend was shopping for hair at a popular mall when suddenly an avatar appeared above her and shot at her until her system became overloaded and she had to reboot
Random bombings, shootings and other “Griefings” are on an increase in the last few weeks. Other club owners, and residents have also reported the same as I am sure most of us have.
And don’t forget the all too often attacks on the grid! For most members it simply means that the access we pay for is denied for a period of time but to some, it means less $L earned and to a few that can be a considerable amount of money.
Coming back to the attack on my property. When I returned I found a curious object left on my land. It was a green barrel and on closer examination it bore the title:
FREE – Weapons of Mass Destruction!
Being an official member of the Dick Tracy Jr. Detectives Society, I right clicked and looked inside. The Contents were empty, no surprise, obviously my attacker and removed the weapons and used them on me. But there was a considerable surprise to be found when I clicked on the General tab.
The object name was FREE Weapons of Mass Destruction but here comes the best part.
The description read: PLEASE DO NOT USE THESE IN The __________ ___! The blanks actually contained the name of a popular club! Of Course I also found the Name of the owner, who Lo and Behold, had a born date that matched the one on my calendar. A Newbie? An Alt? What a Surprise! But another Surprise was found on the Creator Line! Here was the Name of the OWNER of the afore(UN)mentioned Club!
I was dumbfounded. I decided a road trip was in order and I went to visit the club. Sure enough there next to the Money Tree, Right across from the Camping Chairs was THE FREE WEAPONS TREE! I IM’ed the manager on duty and asked if He was aware of these free weapons. He said yes he was which led me to ask “YOU MEAN YOUR CLUB SUPPORTS GRIEFERS? “ He said of course not “We Get Bombed All the Time!”
DUH!
While I was talking to him he contacted the owner, the Creator of this wonderfully useful gift to newbies, who proceeded to harangue me in IM until I was ejected and banned from this wonderful facility (gee I guess I can’t use the camp chairs?!?!?!) and then disparaged my club because our traffic doesn’t match Hers. (Not to mention calling me quite a few choice epithets) She really went ballistic when she learned that my partner, who was also PvP’ed in the bombing had filed an Abuse Complaint not only against the unwitting newbie but also the provider of the weapon.
What astonishes me is that this person sees nothing wrong in providing newbies with these weapons – even though, to quote her manager “We Get Bombed All the Time!”
It is bad enough that Linden Labs has opened SL to unverified accounts and that SL society is full of malcontents and attention seekers who find it stimulating to disrupt a large portion of the grid or to torment people who are simply enjoying all that SL offers, but for a Club owner who is supposedly “Helping Newcomers” to provide the tools to disrupt even her OWN CLUB (“We Get Bombed All the Time!”) is beyond comprehension.
I only wish that one of the marvelously talented people in game or in Linden Labs could devise a new script for all of above… I even have a name for it:
COMMON SENSE!

I don't know what to say except to offer you my symapthy and to ask you to persevere. There's lots of good people out there too in spite of the all the brain-dead asshats.

I was the partner that got bombed along with Trader. I abuse reported the person who set it off ASAP. Because I am tired off all the bombings that go on. Come to find out it was a newbie who had no idea what he even did.!!! Well, what a welcome to sl.
I asked where he got this and did he know what it did? He told me the club he got it at...and had no idea what it was for...said it was free along with all the other stuff for newbies. He took me to the club and showed me. Sure enough..right under the Newbie Tree there it was..Weapons Of Mass Destruction!!! I immediately filed an abuse report against the club owner and creator of this "free" weapon object..and in doing so corrected the report against the newbie. How can this club owner not see anything wrong with handing out "Weapons of Mass Destruction" to newbies and setting them free in the world with it??? How can they deny even making such an object when thier name is stamped all over it as creator, it is in there club..specifically saying on the object...'DO NOT USE AT THE ----- ---. Hello??just by putting that in the object line description you know what it can do...you know what will happen.... and yet, you set them free on the world to blow up other houses, clubs, events...and then claim no responsibility??? This same club was also handing out free scripts, not a big deal...except combine the free Weapons of Mass Destruction and the Free Scripts...give them to a newbie...or in to the hands of those who love to take down the grid....and you have a receipe for disaster waiting to happen. Is anything being done about this....are the abuse reports being looked at...is the owner of the club being reprimanded for doing this? Who knows...all you get is a "abuse resolved"...and no clue as to what happened...rarely do you ever see it show up in the police blotter. and..as a side line..Trader is a registered user..has been since since November 2004....he has tried several times to fix this..with no success. Search for his postings in forums..you will see he is well respected and sensible. |

In case some of you don't know Trader and Nuala are some of the nicest people you will ever meet in SL, so therefore I am very bummed that thier anniversary party got greifed. HUGS! I have a temp solution in my signature. I'll be wiring the next version with a land interface tool to eject people the proper way by force.
I'm half-tempted to start offering objects that automatically eject poeople under a certain age. But I can't see that going anyware but.... wait... nvm. |

Anyways,they met up and shared words.....hang on,it was a pub....in a combat sandbox. Ok,so anyway they shared words....wait hang on,nope,they shared guns; Griefer chose the A-Bomb.....hang on,wasn't it a pub in a non-combat sandbox just to the left of....never mind,anyway Griefer chose the......hang on,wasn't it a SL lager first,then A-Bomb? Oh well,Griefer took A-Bomb and C.Sense took the Super Shi......you're telling it wrong,they were in a shopping mall pub on PG turf! Whatever,anyway Griefer and C.Sense exchanged weapons......no no no,it was a SL vodka I am sure of it,or maybe a SL juice. Regardless,Griefer and C.Sense handed their.....hang on,I'm sure it was a combat sim,and they were fighting each other. Anyway,C.Sense was not happy at Griefer's choice......on second thoughts,it was a Welcome Area......so Griefer said to C.Sense, "......sorry mate,they were both on the Rausch combat sim for sure.....so Griefer with the A-Bomb said.....hang on,wasn't it an orbiter he had,and wasn't it in a pub,in a combat sim,next to....so C.Sense decided to call it double or quits. Anyways,the morale of the story was that the A-Bomb never received his free drink. SERIOUS PART: As long we keep reporting the griefers,the griefers shall never win. |

Trader1 and his partner Nuala have been around for a long time. I love their club, and Trader is one of the best DJs I've heard. As Alliez and Wendel note, they are genuinely nice folks who have been a credit to the community. I'm pleased to call them both as friends. Embarrassed yet? _____________________

Not only are they using weapons but they are harassing people, I usually spend some of my time in SL at the welcome area i have done this for many years, i enjoy meeting new people and helping, for the last few months i and some friends have been harassed, verbally abused, shot across the sim in a no script zone i might add, i file abuse report after abuse report and sure they get banned for a few days but they go and sign up for another alt after alt after alt and continue do what they do best Grief/harass

....are the abuse reports being looked at.. The only abuse reports that seem to get looked at are if a tree branch is crosssing a property line. The only way to stop all this abuse happening to the good residences of SecondLife is if Linden Labs STOPS THE OPEN UNVERIFIED REGISTRATIONS - NOW!!! Tagging players with account info now only opens up a whole new extra can of worms....who ever in LL thought up that open free registartion was a great idea - well, if that/those people worked for me - they wouldn't be any more. Its ruining the simulation and now Linden labs whinning about how they will have tools available (soon - yeah) to fix the massive problems Linden Labs created themselves!!!...and it seems like they don't want to hear about it any more since they removed the PVP abuse report. I had 7 AR reports and 2 PVP abuse reports from a griefing that happened to me and NOTHING..repeat NOTHING was done about it - even though LL recieved very accurate AR from me. (sorry - Im venting now). |

Come to find out it was a newbie who had no idea what he even did.!!! I just love theses excuses, I call them excuses because that is what they are. I'm sorry but in this day and age what with the internet and even the video games that are available, I find it hard to believe that someone would not know what a weapon does irl or in an environment like SL. On to something else here, I was in the welcome area the other night and there were a few idiots there causing chaos, cursing, hitting others with swords and bragging about how they had just got banned 20 minutes prior and had just remade a new acct with our fancy new acct system. They bragged about being underage and a Linden had banned him only for him to come back with a new acct and used the same exact first name with a new last name. So I see a Linden come into the area and I let him know that this kid had just been banned and then remade and is being an asshat again. So the kid starts in cursing about the Linden who banned him, saying he was gonna kick his ass irl and how stupid we all are blah blah. Then about 15 minutes later Philip Linden shows up and asks what is going on then he bans like 4 people, 1 was apparently an accident lol So Philip is hanging out and people are bombarding the poor guy with questions, people who are never in the welcome area all of a sudden come out of the woodwork and lag us all to hell cuz they wanna get a glimpse of 'the man'. I always find this ironic, these people are never there yet when a Linden shows up it's like the mall at Christmas all of a sudden. Anyways one of the banned kids comes back for at least a third time and starts weilding his flexy sword that someone obviously handed to him after he created and I say Umm Philip, that kids back. So Phil bans him yet again. Phil then goes off to play golf or something and not 5 minutes later the kid comes back again and says he wants to beat up Philip and other such nonsense. I let the other Linden know about it and apparently that acct was banned as well. I decided to leave the area as I was tired of spending all my time IMing Lindens about idiots. Apparently the kid came back several more times. Gotta love the new acct system eh? _____________________
