I think SL is WAY over my head....

LOL....that's what I'm going to try to do....have fun.....that is after I go reinstall Second Life on my comp. I just had a little break down last night lol!

You do not need to be a computer genius to have fun and prosper in SL. I am a borderline retard, and I have a blast. I even run several succesful business ventures here.

As far as wandering around aimlessly, I have been doing that for 3 years now. I love it.

The key is to have fun and ask questions. After a few months here you will find yourself actually able to help others.

Hi and welcome to SL, trust me nobody in the world could be less computer savvy than i was when i started SL!
i was very lucky to fall in with some very very very VERY patient and skilled teachers and for probably 4-6 weeks every sentance i said started with "why does it....? or how do i...? or i don't get it!!..and a lot of, i will NEVER get it!..well just short of 2 years later, i can say..i only start about a 3rd of my staements with those lines and i have begun to learn to use Photshop. my strongest advice is to stop worrying about being successful and making things for now and to just enjoy the magic that is everywhere in this wonderful world! and feel free to im me as well i'm not real handy with style issues but i can show ya some fun places

You can look me up to if you need help. I just don't have the right freebie stuff (I'm a guy so, well, I'd have all the wrong stuff in the first place). But if you encounter user interface, building, or scripting problems I'm open.

She's right - one time she accidentally clicked on something and she ended up in World of Warcraft - we had to go in and save her.

I am George Flan, I am also a SL Mentor, I have tons of ladies skins, shapes, and clothes as well as just about anything else you may want in SL. I also have thousands of landmarks where you can get free things, learn how to do things in SL, and places to do just about anything you want from dancing to just quiet areas to walk in. I am in-world usually from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. On weekends Friday thought Saturday I am on quite a bit up to 1:00 to 2:00 a.m. All East coast time. I would be glad to give you all these items. When I first came into SL almost a year ago I was like you, several people helped me and I feel I owe all new people the same as I received. Feel free to look me up. On the bottom menu bar, click on search, then the people tab, then type in my name George Flan, from there you can send me an IM and we can arrange to meet some place in SL and I will be more than glad to help you or any other new person that needs help getting use to Second Life. Welcome to SL and believe me you will not only enjoy it, but will become very addicted to it.

Welcome, Tatiana! I'll agree with the others, I've been here two years and I still feel helpless at times. It can be an overwhelming place at first, but if you give yourself a little time to ease into things and get used to how it all works, you'll find that it's a really amazing place.

Be sure to check out The Shelter, if you haven't already... I think it's the first listing if you search places for 'shelter.' It's a club that's aimed at helping out new residents... they have fun events all the time, tons of free stuff to give away, and the people who hang out there are friendly.

Give me a yell if you see me online-- I can drop you a notecard I have with a list of a few helpful places on it, and a load of free clothes as well.

Don't worry. Mine is not one of the overactive kinds. It covers only the inside of the house. Just a privacy thing so I don't get disturbed in my workshop. Everywhere else outside is free to roam. LOL the one most thrown out by the thing is a friend of mine who keeps forgetting it's always on.

And NO ONE knows where all the security systems are. Don't worry no one gets arrested for security breaches ... just tosses, teleports and the like.

A lot of nice ladies donated a lot of nice clothes to me to pass along to new people, I hate the tern newbie...lol And I have a list of landmarks just for ladies where a lot of great designers have donated some real good looking clothes, shapes, and some great looking free skins.
