Doing a little market research here since this affects floating text on HUDs.

I wish LL would just make this sort of aggregate data available, assuming the client collects it (and if it doesn't, then the next questions is Why Not?)

My suspicion would be that you would want to plan for 800 by 600 or 1024 by 768. I mostly use 1024 by 768. My equipment can display higher resolution, but in many cases, instead of doing what one would think and hope and make the same size text only smoother, it makes text with the same number of pixels, only smaller. Making the adjustments needed to increase the size of text becomes a pain, expecially since it doesn't end up increasing readability, so currently 1024 by 768 is pretty much the highest resolution of value for me.

320x240x4 I can't see a thing but no one can beat my frame rate. ![]() 1 by 1 would beat that, especially if you could cut the colors down below black and white to just black or just white. _____________________

Would someone with a 1280 x 1024 screen resolution be willing to take a screenshot for me? I'll send you something to wear on your HUD and you can send me back the an image of it?

I voted 1024x768 for Windows but also use 960x720 for Linux cause it aint got no adjustment and that fits.

Think widescreen. most laptops are now, ALL Apples are, and 19"+ widescreen LCD monitor prices have crashed - it's the coming thing _____________________

1680 x 1050 widescreen goodness ![]() hmm, maybe the donation direction needs to be reversed. (just teasing, Travis) Do you get any benefit from the higher resolution? My intuitive response to the idea of higher resolution is that things would stay the same size but get smoother because they are being drawn with smaller dots. What actually seems to happen is that some things - like text on a webpage, or text is SL, get drawn with the same number of dots, but are smaller. Thus some things get harder to see, and nothing gets easier to see or better looking, but it takes longer to draw the increase quantity of dots. _____________________

its mainly a gfx thing... the more pixels (resolution) the more dots there are to define an edge, which means you would use less antialasing to acheive the same picture quality, antialising = "the devil" (might as well piss away 50% of your cards power there)
and text is pixel or point maped, 6x4 pixels is 6x4 pixels.. if it were vector it could be any scale size you wanted with little or no distortion |

1920x1200
I use my large resolution to try to pick up girls in bars. I've so far impressed 0 girls with my introductory line of: "Hi, I'm Starax. I have a large throbbing monitor that uses a satisfying resolution of 1920x1200" If there are any girls that would like to trade sexuial favours for use of my monitor. Please IM me. |

heh also high rez doesnt mean large (always) in LCD monitors yes it does... but ive had a cupple 15 inch multisync crt monitors that would do 1920x1200 +
heh i even have a aicent NEC multisync jp3a (multisync 1) that was made in 1978 that will do 800x600 svga (@56 hz) shure it shocks you, and puts out more BTU's than a space heater but the damn thing is older than i am and served many many many good hours of use since i bought it a decade ago.(for 10$) |

I can't stand working at less than 1280x1024, but I do run SL at 1152x864 because that seems to be a better performance trade-off. |

I run a 20" Apple flat screen and have SL in the 800x600 window. I like to be able to open other aps while I'm in-world. Also, SL at full screen seems too big for me.
I'd like to try a 1024x768 window, but I don't see the option available. |
