SL is currently down for an update. The grid is closed. That is why you can not log in. Likely the current update is not even up for download yet. You are likely downloading the previous update. Wait until closer to end of the maintence window to try downloading.

"unable to reconize Update installed" Bug is back
08-02-2006 08:39

I just downloaded the freaking update! how do I fix this? This seems to be a common bug with Second Life. As the person above says, you install the update, but then you go to enter the world or try to and it says you need to install the update and its the same update. |

Wait until closer to end of the maintence window to try downloading. Normally you can install the update if they make it available and when you install it you would normally try to enter the world again and the normal proceedure to happen is what you said "World down for update enterence restricted to maintanence" It normally does not ask for you to install the update again |

how do I fix this? There's usually delay before updated installer is made available. So your SL client is dumb and downloads (outdated) installer for the (outdated) version of client you already have. http://secondlife.com/community/downloads.php you can check here when the new version becomes available, and upoad it manually. (1.11.2.4 is actually new version so it should work when you install it) |

Which would happen if you were downloading the wrong update. That was my point. The correct update is not likely to even be up for download this early. We are less than 2 hours into the window right now. _____________________

Update Version 1.11.2 (4)
08-02-2006 08:47
I installed this new version software and yet still keeps asking me to install the update again and again. Why is it doing that? If they keep releasing these updates and we install them, it should not ask to install the same update again. This is the five time SL does this to me and its getting on my nerves.

also, I downloaded the newest update and now i'm not getting the error, instead i'm getting "cannot connect to second life, please try again in a few minutes" |

Wait.
See the "System Status"? OFFLINE. That means the grid is not running, people. The install can't talk to the grid to verify it's the correct one when the grid isn't there to talk to. Wait a few hours. Go get some fresh air, take a dip in the pool, go cuddle that lover, make a peanutbutter and jelly sammich for your cat...whatever. ~Jessy _____________________

I'm sorry Bane and Lear. I was having the same issue but then it started working normally. I assumed it had started working normally for everyone.
To the people saying "that's because the grid is down, duh" well, this is a separate issue. |

This is the five time SL does this to me and its getting on my nerves. ~Lear Lamington As of the time you posted this (3 minutes before I started this reply), 8:47 a.m. SLT, Second Life is not open. A quick visit to http://secondlife.com/status/ confirms this easily enough. You can't expect to be able to log in until it's open again. Now, while it's true that usually when you try to log in during downtime, it will tell you that the grid is closed, not that you don't have the right update, but whatever it might be saying now doesn't mean anything. For all we know, whatever system is responsible for delivering that message might be the very thing that's undergoing a replacement at this very moment. If that's the case, it's unlikely it would work properly while it's being overwritten. How about waiting until things are up and running before trying to point out what might or might not be wrong? _____________________

To the people saying "that's because the grid is down, duh" well, this is a separate issue. Then try the Technical Forum for technical assistance. Detail the problem, your ISP stats and your computer stats (including, but not limited to, CPU, RAM, Video Card, Video Drivers), or call/e-mail the Tech Department. ~Jessy _____________________

I know you two are new, but this is an UPDATE. The whole of Second Life is not on teh internet to be updated. You can not expect to connect with something not there. Is this plain enough?
Wait till the update is done and you will connect fine. ~Jessy _____________________
