thanks
People keep telling me to put a donation box, I dont know
I see, see what I mean? rain you were approached also. I think the ones that offer are not newbies but alt. Makes me dissappointed I have to deal with this in SL.
I will put the signs this week. But if I see it doesn't work, because people dont know how to read, then I will have to take other venues.
I will take some of your ideas here to make up a sign. And see if I find a script somewhere where it drops a notecard at the teleport.

I agree with rain... I also looked for a donation box but didn't see one. I had a great time visiting and enjoyed all the fabulous things offered there!!! I hope all the SL goobers will adhere to your new rules when you get them created so this resource will continue to be easily available to new people and old alike! thanks again anjaleka

From: Marla Truss In the bdsm community (which theoretically includes Gor) there is the concept of consent. The idea is that you don't play with someone without them giving consent. This includes third parties observing the play. And I was shouted down in another thread when I attempted to point this out. Mind you, your post was considerably more elloquent than mine. Nothing to add to the thread in general that hasn't been said.

From: Merlyn Bailly Disallow 3rd-party scripts -- incapacitates not only guns but slave collars, which are also are scripted. Put up a sign requesting Goreans to play their stupid dom/sub games in private, somewhere else, NOT on your property. I'd agree with all of this. Anyone with scripted attachments can survive for a few minutes with the default walk, etc. and it will take care of guns, and likely the lack of collar scripts and leashes will reduce the "fun" of people who feel a need to do their RP infront of an uninterested audience. (If it kills spamming nipples, that's a bonus.) Personally, I'd als consider using a notecard giver, and asking people in the notecard not to engage in BDSM role-play, "solicitation", or display of weapons. If anyone whines about this, (And some people will, I'm sure.) ban 'em. If they come back, AR them. You're trying to help out new people in SL and that's praise worthy. It's unfortunate that these other people are coming along and trying to take advantage because they're unable to get customers, or find subs or whatever any other way than through targeting the newest members of SL.

Ban em
08-07-2006 21:55
People who cruise newbie friendly places recruiting or selling themselves know they are behaving improperly. Sure, post guideline signs, but have no worries about banning rude people. You are trying to help people, they are trying to take advantage of new players. Ban em, dont think twice, its all right.

Completely agree with you Palomma, your store is on my LM list for newbies, it's simply the best place to send newbies -- even better than GNU store (wish it had more male stuff as well).
The other alarming thing I see with these Goreans/ D/s type people is that they are now assimilating themselves into the Greeter, Mentor programs, the objective of this is to recruite newbies. I've seen this happen with my own eyes and it's not a nice sight. When they trolled Ahren it was one thing but using these program to find potential newbie victims is another. Most newbies are left jaded and most leave the game after encounter with one of these low-self esteemd Dom types.

Boy...don't want to derail this thread but I couldn't let this one pass without comment. From: someone The other alarming thing I see with these Goreans/ D/s type people is that they are now assimilating themselves into the Greeter, Mentor programs, the objective of this is to recruite newbies. This is like saying all <insert favorite group here> who try to help people are out to get newbies for their own agenda's. Does this happen at times...absolutely. I don't disagree but it also happens in all types of groups. Gorean/D/s type groups have their fair share of goobers and I've seen quite a few of them, sad to say. But to lump everybody who shares those interests into such a broad category is unfair. Perhaps we can keep this thread on track by keeping statements such as above for another thread and instead, offer Palomma good useful advice on how to help with this issue. anjaleka

If you think it's wrong don't allow it on your property. I don't see how it's anymore complicated than that. You don't have to ban anyone, post in the property details that slavery and dom/sub roleplay is not allowed here. If they complain, they can leave. You do not have to justify, you don't have to argue. Warn them in the description, warn them politely in person if it's necessary, if that doesn't work then ask them to leave. If that doesn't work then eject and ban them. The less you say the better and always be polite.

Theres a few rotten apples - same with any group, even vanillas.

Hopefully I can make a sign that people really can read.

Well, guess what?!!!! We found one and ejected because was bad, bad behavior, the other we couldn't find, I think he left.
The one that we found and ejected, had a dark skin and he IMed us saying that we were prejudice and he was going to post in forums how prejudice we were..
I was like OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! why do people just make up things like that????????
Also, we got the other day, someone teleporting to the place and has this Ninja gesture with a bomb fumes very dark making the entire location black with the fumes, of course I thought he was shooting. I asked him and he said that it was his "Ninja poof" what the hell!!!!!
Then the other day, got this other guy with this magic wand with lots of fireworks explosions that covered everyone's screen...

I have no issues with any sort of adult consentual lifestyle. Not even prudish ones. =P BUT, this is not really an issue of lifestyle at all. It's an issue of allowing or not allowing solicitation on your property.
In my opinion, this is little different than the thread last week about someone soliciting customers for her shoppe while at the Gurl 6 store. It's just plain wrong, and you have every right to tell them to cease.
I most certainly would not allow such behavior on my own land from anyone or any lifestyle, store, or for any purpose save perhaps charities...and then they need to go through me for approval first.
You most certainly have a right to enforce certain standards of behaviour on your land. Those who refuse to follow those behavioural standards should likely be banned. To make this clearer and easier for you to deal with...I highly suggest you put up a nice, tasteful, but clear sign stating that solicitation of any kind is not allowed on your land.
Good luck to you.

Hey Palomma, this is your next door neighbor -- the one with the annoying yard sale. Don't worry -- I'll build something cool there soon -- honest. Anyway I agree that you have every right to restrict whatever behavior you want on your own private land. But I don't think signs will do it for you. Actually I think that will just encourage folks. What you want to do, as someone else mentioned, is disallow third party scripts and put a fast autoreturn on your land. That will clean up the majority of it. The rest well.. If they are wanting to be rude a sign is probably not going to stop them. Also I wanted to say how cool your free area is. I send new people over there all the time and sometimes I even walk over and help them.

What categories would be these at to put in the sign!!!!!!! HELP!! lol This would fall under the category of both Creating a Nuisance, and Obstructing Business. Nuisance laws are kind of a catchall in the tort law world that allows for community standards of a "reasonable person" to be applied to determine if the person was creating a nuisance. In this case, you are the community and Reasonable person that decides and bans based on it. If it was me, just make a long list of stuff that isn't allowed, and tack "Creating a Nuisance" at the end to cover all the stuff that doesn't fit in another category.

From: Alazarin Mondrian Your land, your rules. Possibly have a notecard dispenser at a fixed landing point that gives people a copy of your freebie store rules as they arrive. You may find that you'll have to eject / ban quite a few people for the first few weeks, but they'll eventually get the message. Sounds like the best solution to me. Don't discriminate against Goreans specifically, just shoot everyone a note saying, "Recruiting for groups is prohibited," along with whatever other rules will keep it a safe, comfortable place for newbs. Hi, Palomma, btw, I'm right across the road from your store, on the beach in Sylvina.

Viv... you are not an annoying neighbor with the yard sale. Thanks for the opinion. We for sure need to find that third party script. Any ideas? Let us know.

I think the control for third-party scripts should be in the land management controls... I don't own land to check, but you shouldn't need extra tools for it. That's probably the best way to make your job easier, but do note it will interfere with your shoppers trying on any scripted items. The tradeoff for limiting troublemakers may be worth it, they'll get bored and leave before they can even cause any problems.
For a sign or notecard, I'd say to keep it simple. Nobody likes to read a huge list of rules, and nobody will pay attention if it doesn't rez in quickly. Just tell everyone to play nice with the newbies, and if you do disable scripting make sure visitors know that so they won't panic.
