because i've had so many good laughs on these boards, i felt the need to share this tiny chuckle:

http://images.ucomics.com/comics/tiny/2006/tiny060713.gif

(and before anyone gets their fur in a fluff, i'm very pro-furry myself - i was once bitten by a radioactive kitten and can now sense somebody opening a can of tuna four rooms away!)

I do have a skunk avatar. It was the first furry avie I bought, and I still think its one of the cutest. Though admittedly I am just a Neko hybrid and not a "real" fur.

Very. Tiny. Devices. :D

It's the kind that have those little blinking eyes. Someone I like on SL put one of those on when I first met him and I practically swooned, it was so adorable, lol. But he is a clever bugger, and probably knew it would have that effect.

I want to see a chicken avie. Also, a pig. Maybe a cow.

A tarantula?

A giant amoeba!

Oh, the possibilities ...

What has always bugged me about mainstream furry is the lack of variety.

There's a metric assload of wolves, foxes, bunnies, tigers, and so on. But not really a lot of the other species. I mean, I almost rarely seen gorilla/ape furries, even though such is the very definition of both furry and animal. Too humanoid?

It's like werewolves. Why not werecows or werechickens? Those are a heckuva lot more common!

*cranks up the old tune he heard on Dr Demento, "I'm a Werecow"*

I suppose it boils down to how furries are influenced by their environment just like everybody else. Which is why when someone tells me "I am really a wolf in a human body" I tend to roll my eyes. Why don't we hear about marmosets trapped in human bodies?

Some people say I was strange for making a robot HORSE, even though I would imagine in a world where using robots as labor is fairly common that equine be a logical choice. I mean, if your world was Megaman X-ish in that designers liked to dress up their robots to look like animals. :)

Isn't there a chicken avie? I'm sure I saw it somewhere.

I could easily be a marmoset in a human body, now that I think about it.

I might break the law to own one, that's for sure. :) (no, not really...)

Most likely. And monkeys are a bit freaky in several ways.

On one hand, they're like a devolved version of humans. Similar looking, only hairier and less civilized. They do things like flinging poo. Not a very appealing picture.

On the other hand, they're uncomfortably human-like as well. An experiment showed monkeys can be taught to understand and use money. Not only that, but once they got the concept, they went and invented prostitution! In the article I read it was very evident this development made the researchers very uncomfortable.

Well, that one's easy. Let's suppose you're actually a coyote in a human body. However that happens is not important for the sake of an example. Now: wolves are a lot better known. So it would make sense that you'd end up deciding you're a reincarnated wolf simply because you lack enough knowledge of all the Canidae family, as unless you somehow acquire supernatural knowledge you'd figure this out by learning about wolves and having something suddenly fall into place, to put it in some way.

To put another example, while I don't consider myself to be a cat in a human body, I do think I have a rather cat-like personality. This doesn't mean there's no better match, just that a cat seems to be the best match I know of.

So maybe there are marmosets in human bodies indeed, but they don't even know of such a thing, or don't know enough about what's it like, and end up picking something else similar enough to what they feel like.

Out of curiosity, could you describe a marmoset personality-wise? It's easy enough to do with foxes, wolves, etc, but I have no clue what marmosets are like.
