Hi Folks!

Which do you think are the most 'famous' SIMs of SecondLife and why?

Feel free to suggest your own SIM, but please keep in mind some important qualifications:

- History
- Unique Impact on the Community
- Popularity / Infamy

Also, please avoid spreading accelerant over this thread. ;)

Cheers,

Iron.

Is this just a discussion topic or do you have something in mind for this information?

Do you mean Avatars or Regions?

I'd suggest Gibson and Midnight City Both certainly have history and fame. I'm not entirely sure about impact.

I like Midnight City, Svarga, and Apollo. Just cause I think they're beautiful. :)

Boardman.

Neualtenburg I'd say has become infamous.

It'd say Lusk. It's one of the oldest, and is the original source of the furry explosion :D

I meant it in the "this is where the fad/group/culture rappidly expanded out of," not as in "this is where greifers show up every day to blow the furs up all over the sim" kind of way O.o

And I don't mean the culture that grows on the unwashed masses either.

I really love the city sims, Miramare, Barcola, Sistiana and Grignano.

I do! Thanks for asking. :)

<shameless plug>
I am developing "Third Life", a kind of cross between SecondLife and Monopoly(though certainly different enough from the parker bros version to avoid any IP issues)

I'd like to use famous Simulators from around SecondLife as places that players (Land Barons) can land on, purchase, and put up vendors, clubs and malls.

It'll be up to 30 players, and you'll bid on land auctions instead of purchasing the SIMs outright. As an optional feature, I will let the Third Life hoster be able to grow the money supply and add new simulators to the game as it goes on.

I could go on, but I think I'll end my shameless plug here. ;)

Dublin's became pretty famous pretty quickly.
I also like Dragon Moon, Demian Caldera's building and terraforming there is seriously evocative.
Of course, one would have to include Jesse for its historical significance.

Up and rising sims, I'd say keep your eyes on Menorca, specially set up run and owned by Slim Warrior as a dedicated live music sim.

Gibson, Shipley, Hawthorne and Federal were all pretty famous in their day for various reasons. Not sure what is famous now.

indigo! - home of the indigo crew (old sim with many of the original inhabitants)

chartreuse - home of pixel dolls (nephilaine protagonist)

city sims - grignano, sistiana, miramare, barcola -these were experiments, lots of Linden infrastructure, bridges, roads and double prim allotment. Land costs a fortune in these sims.

and i'm going to add boardman and deharo because they too were both Linden experiments and have interesting histories. Boardman is suburban and deharo camp-ground. They are also 2 of the only 3 Linden zoned sims.

abbots- home of the aerodrome

rodeo - Salazar Jack's forest of rodeo which extends accross 5 or 6 sims now? very pretty.

natoma - is home to the ivory tower of primitives

taber - themed tudor sim that has been around forever (old sim with many of the original inhabitants)

welsh - home to Steller Sunshine's beanstalk. Steeler was the 1st SL resident ever and her bean stalk has been there forever. You'll also find find Pete Fat's boot house.

Luna - the only Linden run sim with a Linden managed mall. (Luna Galleria)

the vehicle sims are great too because they've given us lag free environments to use our vehicles and hold events. these sims are bethel, brilliant, fame and ...I can't remember the name of the other, there are 4.

waterhead and ahern - welcome areas

Ok, I'll bite.
I think my own home sim of Blumfield deserves to be on any list of significant sims. An experiment at getting premium members, Blumfield was controversial at the time it was opened. A virtual suburbia, it provided an alternative to the rest of the mainland. Some saw it as Linden created content and it was derided by some in the forum and on blogs as being pedestrian and uninspired.
It's been over six months since Blumfield appeared on the map and now it and it's sister sim, West Haven, are the homes of a tight group of very interesting and creative people. Blumfield remains an example of how a residental sim can look and work.
The community that those of us that are there have built together has made for a very satisfying SL experience. Those of us in Blumfield and West Haven feel very fortunate to be part of this very special place.

Hey, don't forget the original sandbox sim. I can't log into SL so can't look up the name, but I'm sure someone can get the name. (Would be funny to buy one of those in Monopoly)

I think I like Midnight City and Apollo best. They get my vote. Marvin's Gardens = Apollo, and Midnight City = Park Place.

P.s. I look forward to the 3rd Life game you are proposing. It sounds fun.

Don't forget... if you have interesting history/facts about your sim (or any sim) add it to the SL History Wiki's Sim Histories page.
