If so, prepare yourself. There's adult mobsters in SL. (laughs) ![]() |

I was at drama valley alot and SWM and zephyr. There.com is like 95% kids 16 and under and like 5% adults. I got tired of all the immature people.
Now im seeing a flow of under 18 year old people coming into SL adult grid |

Yep me too, I had to resign from a lot of groups because of the hassle I was getting from griefers before I gave up and left but I've not seen this happen in SL yet. The important thing to me is kids are allowed in There and you couldn't report them for being there unlike SL.

Holy crap! New people on the forums and in SL who don't seem to be underaged!
Welcome, welcome! ![]() In answer to questions, yeah, those under 18 are supposed to be on teen SL (AKA the Teen Grid\Emo Grid\Hell Grid... etc), there's problems with this recently though due to SL's new free reigstration. What grid you end up on is only a function of what birthdate you enter on the signup form. Nothing more :/ _____________________

It's actually easier for a Teen to get on the Main grid than the Teen one. Makes sense right? |

Does LL realy do anything about underage people? Sposed to be a way coming up of banning people from land if they have not given payment details to LL. Kinda like a resident-enforced credit card details provision. Does that count? |

Not really that doesn't stop them form coming into main grid. If anything it should be no credit card needed for teen grid and a credit card or some other kind of ID for main grid

O_o I haven't checked the signup form for a while, but zOMG!
OMG's and WTF's are in order here, LL! (following is the transcript of a conversation at LL HQ) Linden 1: We need to increase signup percentages somehow... Linden 2: I see a lot of people bailing out mid-signup process for some reason Linden 1: Maybe it has something to do with the fact that we're asking for a credit card? Linden 2: Hmm.. Could be. Let's make registrations open and solve this problem for good! Linden 1: But what about the teen SL'ers? Linden 2: Oh, they'll still need to be verified. notrly. _____________________

I 100% agree! I too left There.com because of all the kids greifing, begging and just being plain obnoxious. Now, the MAIN thing that I love about SL is the security that I am in a adult only grid. Here I have been able to have decent conversation, had no real greifing to talk of and I don't have to worry I am simulating sex with someone who is under age. The thought of that last point makes me sick! LL, you so have to sort this out! Else me and my money will walk and so will others. There is a basic rule of thumb in business that says for every one person complaining, 10 are thinking it! Just look at the complaints that have arisen from this issue! I would hate to see my treasured SL be ruined by free loading kids who generally cause nothing but bother. And yes, I to have seen a rise in beggers, greifers and the annoying!

And SL, where is your sence of responsibilty, hmm? There is plenty going on in the adult grid that kids really shouldn't see or experiance! I fear a SL shutting law case.

My own interactions with folks in There (including this morning's downtime) have been less than fulfilling. Today I ended up in a conversation with a number of people and one guy kept talking in letters... and I don't just mean like "How R U 2day"- I literally could not understand what he was saying. So I jokingly responded to one of his incomprehensible questions by saying "a b c d e f." His reply? "OMG U R lesbian!" and he left the conversation! I couldn't find a shrug emote. _____________________

now this is a nother sad but ture fact. a higher % of kids do nothing but grief and cause problems then not. There.com is a perfect example of this.
What im having a hard time understanding is why LL is allows this to happen when those kids that come to adult gird don't spend real money in or for SL its the adults that spend the money. And a 14 day suspension for being underage is just silly. It should be bann account. |

Children on Adult grids.
07-12-2006 15:33
I do not post very much in any forums. But if I do, it is because I feel an issue is worth some attention..this is one of them.
Like all game companies who run online games have TOS' and EULA's...be honest..how many people will take time and read a mini novel like a TOS? Not many, if any actually does. If a parent should walk in on their underage son or daughter having virtual sex in SL, or using really vulgar language, who will they blame? The company who allows their kids in to a situation like that? Or the child? 3 guesses on this and the 1st two don't count. Sadly, these days, parents don't have A: the time or B: the inclination to monitor thier kids online time, or even what they watch on TV..they would rather have laws passed and let the government babysit their kids activities instead.. If I saw my child in a mature area doing things he or she should not be doing..the computer gets the axe, and then I would speak to an Attourney of a possible lawsuit against the company for allowing my child in to a situation as that. I read every message in this section..and I noticed one major thing missing..NOT ANY kind of reply or response from ANY LL employee.. Guess all they care about, now they have gotten bigger..is the $$$..can you believe, they suspended someone for calling another resident a moron...yet will do absolutly nothing to curb teens from entering mature areas.. Wake up Linden Labs or somewhere down the road, the snake is going to rear back and bite you, and you may end up in court fighting lawsuits. my 2 and a half cents worth..hmm what does that equate in L$? lol |

I'm not flaming you traci, but maybe the parent's attitude you describe here is why we are getting kids on SL and not LL's fault.

Well, CC verification seems to be more important for the teen grid than for the normal grid, because the Lindens are more serious about keeping adults off of the teen grid than kids off of the adult grid.

I'm not flaming you traci, but maybe the parent's attitude you describe here is why we are getting kids on SL and not LL's fault. Well partly, that is my point..But when a game company is going to allow explicit adult materials into their game, it does fall on the company to make sure these kids are not going where they shouldn't..protects them, and the kids.. CC verification? Not much you can do, because at almost any age you can have a bank account (not sure sure on the min.age where a parent has to open it etc) and thus, get their own visa check card..Most CC services don't know if it is a bank card or credit card..so that point is moot.. In any online community it is almost imossible to keep kids out of adult related areas.. It is funny/ironic in a way, here look at what can be accomplished in SL that we would have laughed at as impossible, what as little as 10 years ago? Yet we still can not find a solid way to keep minors out of areas they don't need to be in. make this my 4 and a half cents worth.. BTW: You do have a point there in your response.. |

I personally don't know any other virtual online world with building tools and a 3D environment as good as SL, or a place i can be a furry, but if it gets any worse i'm gona have to cash in my L$ and hit another one... I been playing Entropia Universe lately. It isnt nearly like SL but it's probably where i will go perminently. That or active worlds.
I don't wana reduce myself to using a online world thats web based and requires IE like some of them. I can find THERE acceptable to the extent that i HATE the chat bubbles! I can't stand those... I can't get into a conversation when its not logged where i can go back and read what i missed. >.> _____________________
