From: Tsukasa Karuna Let's not even talk about how broken the already-tricky economy would get if you remove one of the main L$ sinks... I don't think the texures uploaded by new users during, say, their first two weeks actually are a major L$ sink.

My bad, i thought we were talking about removing upload fees altogether. Brain fart :/ The other problem with such a system is that its asking to be gamed.. 1. Make Alt 2. Upload Much Crap 3. Get B& 4. Wash, rinse, repeat.

From: Rotary Fan If that is true then we should try to reduce understanding of how the asset server works. In order to help prevent disaster. The free texture uploading could produced time-limited textures, like sharware software. When the time comes, you pay the fee to keep them or they are deleted. Dude that would be awesome.. a way to preview it in place... not glue up the asshat... and not spend a dime!

Is it really true that the system has at some point to search through every texture ever created, even though they may not be in use anywhere and owned by closed accounts? What will happen with the million servers and multi-million users Philip Linden wants to have? What about the find groups list and the find people list? How many yards sales will be in the events list when there are a millon sims?

From: Fa nyak google's still pretty fast Indeed, Google is fast. I suspect that the techniques Google uses currently don't bear much resemblance to how SL works. Speed is not the only issue in the questions. Being able to rapidly produce a list of a hundred thousand events which includes 99,990 things you don't want to even look at much less go to, 50,000 of which are yard sales isn't necessarily that good of a thing to be able to do.

Free land to learn how to build is provided, not only for new users, but for everyone. It's called sandboxes. You don't have to pay tier or any other fee to learn to build here. Allowing for temporary textures is similar to allowing temporary objects. My original suggestion is only intended to apply to new users. It's good that you pointed out the parallel.
