I was going to download this, put it on my data key and watch it at home at some point but I just realised - 320 meg??? I'd have to burn it onto CD or something! Most uncivilised if you ask me.

There is pretty crappy, but it seems that Forterra Systems are continuing to develop the platform, On-Line Interactive Virtual Environment, which There is based upon. Their webpage is not very informative, but they have a diagram that indicates they're developing some more advanced features. Among the things mentioned on the diagram are scripting engine, object editor, GUI API and AI engine.
Actually.. the scripting engine, GUI API and AI Engine are pretty much part of the system allready. Not too positive about the object editor - but the rest of this has been part of the system since i've joined it at 2003: The AI is used to drive the Dog AI. The GUI API runs Flash applications on the HUD. Most of the existing There interface is actually made out of Flash applications - some of the users hack the GUI and add new functionality by exchanging the official Flash apps with their own.

The There scripting engine uses LUA. Among the scripts in use you can find the card games, vehicles I think, etc'.

Problem is, all this functionality is only available server-side. As a user, you have no access to any of this. This is what makes SL great in my opinion - pure, easy accessibility to just about (almost) everything.

It was pretty freakin' funny at times. Some of the jokes were so utterly original that I couldn't help thinking that they must have been plagiarized from somewhere. It was also kind of self-effacing.

Yeah, that Geico joke cracks me up.
