Haney told me that we still have about 500 m2 or so to go to reach our 1/2 sim target and to let him know where we would like that extra area to be. I have a great idea! Why don't we nab a little plot of land right next to the teleporter and put an enourmous Maypole ( Maibaum) there. We could make it teleport people up to the town square if they click on it. ~Ulrika~

~Ulrika~ It would be great if we could get a parcel adjacent to a hub, yes!

I'll donate another 512m2 to the group.
I was looking at a maypole today on the net, I think one that teleports to the city or even different locations (i.e., church, museum) in the city would be great

Excellent! We'll have a maypole. I was also thinking it might be fun to create textures which give the illusion of uplighting at night. I've attached a picture as an example of how we'd have to make extra dark and extra light textures to give the illusion of lighting. Just a thought. It might be too difficult. ~Ulrika~

From: someone Originally posted by Ulrika Zugzwang I had another idea! I'm so busy talking about how to immortalize ourselves in the city, that I forgot about Haney, our demigod, who actually made this possible.
We must find a way to honor him in the city! I was thinking making him the patron saint, creating a statue, and even using his image in religious artwork in the church. Anyone else have ideas?
~Ulrika~ Haney could be the Burgermeister depicted in the Glockenspiel animation hoisting the meistertrunk !

I was thinking it might be fun to have a riddle in the city. Something that would begin with a prominent plaque in the town square that would lead people step by step through clues to every part and corner of the city. At the end there would be a prize. We could make it like the Chinese New Year Treasure Hunt in San Francisco. It would be a fun way of getting people to explore and learn about prominent features in the city. ~Ulrika~

From: someone We could make it like the Chinese New Year Treasure Hunt in San Francisco. I think that's a fantastic idea. Combine that with the whole dynamic environment thing and I think we'd really have the best build in SL. I'd love to work on this part.

I've got a lake (or the script rather to make a lake) that freezes at night... if you're around when it freezes, it even makes that "water freezing" sound you hear in movies! Haha!
Also when it's frozen some snow generators kick in above it. When day hits, the snow stops and the lake becomes fluid again. I'll set up a demo, hopefully later tonight or tomorrow, for anyone who wants to check it out.
Does anyone know someone who does ice skates? Maybe we could have an ice skate dispensor at the edge of the lake that turns into a inner-tube dispener during the day? The items that the dispensors rez would be programmed to llDie at the change of the night/day.

I didn't find room for a lake but I think it would be neat to implement this in a fountain that freezes at night and flows during the day! If successful and if the city grows outward (we've already slightly expanded into an adjacent sim), I'll scout out locations for a lake. ~Ulrika~

I'm thinking of making a snow globe with pics of various attractions in Neualtenburg. I could build the globe and one of the scripters could do a particle script to emulate the "snow" when touched. Kind of a souvenier thing to sell.

Kendra is actually working on that very thing and has just recently sent me a prototype. She wanted to make miniature models of buildings inside the snow globe. I'm in charge of the snow particles and will send you a copy asap. Also, if you've checked out our Steins feel free to make one of your own as well! We're looking for high detail and authenticity. Kendra can help you with texturing if you have pictures and I can drop in the animations and code. ~Ulrika~

The snow is limited in duration, and is activated when you touch the object; it's even got "Shake" in the right-click pie menu instead of "Touch". I didn't spot Ulrika or Kendra on last night, so I haven't been able to pass it along yet. I'll keep an eye out for you, too, Urusula, so I can toss you a copy of the particle script.

When it's on a table you can shake it by touch or pie menu and when you hold it it triggers an animation to bring it up to the user's face and an animation shakes it back and forth (triggered by random interval, touch, or voice). We should make a single limited edition test globe for the Martinfest scheduled for the 11th of November! ~Ulrika~

I love the animation idea, and I'd be happy to help script that. My only concern is that someone holding the snow globe needs to stand still while the snow's falling, or it's likely to fall out of the globe. Unfortunately, there's no way to constrain particles to a specific area when their emitter prim is moving around. That said, the effect is tiny enough that this is only a minor concern of mine. You really can't see the effect unless you've got your camera zoomed in on the globe, anyhow. An animation that holds the globe up to your avatar's face would be perfect if you've got the "show avatar in first person" preference turned on. From: Ulrika Zugzwang We should make a single limited edition test globe for the Martinfest scheduled for the 11th of November! Yeah, that's coming up soon, isn't it? I gave Kendra a couple copies of the snow-scripted globe (with varying amounts of snowfall), so if you run across her before you see me, she can toss you a copy (carefully; they're glass, after all). I think the globe is really cute, and sure to be a crowd pleaser.

I thought there was a flag one could set to get particles to track the movement of the emitter. I could be mistaken. I'd check the LSL wiki but it's down due to some sort of attack. ~Ulrika~

From: Ulrika Zugzwang I thought there was a flag one could set to get particles to track the movement of the emitter. I could be mistaken. PSYS_PART_FOLLOW_SRC_MASK makes particles appear relative to the emitter, but if the emitter is moving fast enough, some particles tend to be left behind, at least in my experience. Still, it's not a huge issue, given the small scale of the snow globe and its particles. I think it will still look brilliant with the proper animation. From: Ulrika Zugzwang I'd check the LSL wiki but it's down due to some sort of attack. Yuck. I remember reading that they had problems with it a day or two ago; might be related. I miss my Wiki.

I have another great idea!
I want an observatory in the city! Perhaps up in the castle.
People could look at stars and planets (maybe even the landscape below) through a telescope and perhaps even head off into space like I did with my burning life space diorama.

Nutcrackers and Coo Coo's
11-17-2004 14:17
I would love to see someone create a line of Nutcrackers. I think that would be a nice December touch. I can help if there are any scripting needs.
Also does anyone want to collaborate on a coo coo clock? I can make it come out and chirp or sing, on every hour, if someone else can build and texture it.

When I think of Rothenburg I always think if them as well as the neat shops with their detailed handmade goods. Great ideal Y'all!

How about a Zeppelin!!! It can take groups of people on a tour of a few neighboring sims.

Moving from the "religion thread" to this one. One proposal for the upcoming Government: establish a Learning Center (I'm avoiding the name "university" since it is currently a proposal for the name of the Philosophical Branch).
Aren't there enough good classes being offered in-world? They certainly are. However, if you take a look at them, they mostly concentrate on in-world skills (the sole exception being the usage of Photoshop, PSP or Gimp) or SL-related stuff (ie. like the Mentor events or the several classes on the SL economy). So let's focus on "personal skills" instead. I already suggested that Ulrika should do a class on Rhetorics.
What do you think? It's worth the trouble? Remember that classes are the few types of events that residents usually are willing to pay an attendance fee.
- Gwyn
PS. I think I could do something on Knowledge Management, if we want things very specialized and professionally sounding, or Creative Writing, if we would prefer to offer something which could be used by anyone.

~Ulrika~ You know what would trip me out? A YUGE Chicken Hat on top of the zeppelin that would actually work, and make the zep dance! OMG... I'd laugh so hard at that if I caught it in the skies over Neualtenburg

How about using tax money to sponsor classes like in oak grove?
I think a constant program of getting people to know about and more involved with Neaultenburg will be vital to its survival, never mind growth.
