Man that is spiffy! It sorta feels like an interior garden type of structure, aviary, etc. Hmmmm.....
That would make an awesome convention space though. _____________________

I visited this in-world earlier tonight. It is a very impressive build. More prims than I've ever used in a build. It is a very nice design. I like the idea of a convention center. Somehow, the glass and metal look remiends me of the exterior of the Moscone center in San Francisco. It would be great for events. I'd rent it for Photoshop contests and other large scale events.

There actually aren't that many prims... I just use BIG ones.
![]() Well, the curved ceiling does have 60 prims in it, not counting the glass at each end (another 4 ![]() That's about 400, I think. I suppose I could rent it out for events. I think 3rd-person camera collision/obscuring is the main reason most events are held "outdoors" in SL. But there's plenty of room for cameras in HERE, that's for sure. I could rig it up to auto-rez various types of events: o Various-sized pedestals for air and car shows o Tables, easels, and floating screens for art shows o Numerous prefab seating arrangements for classes or roundtables o Stage and audience for gameshows or theatrical productions o Stalls for a indoor fleamarket All these would be summon-able via script at any time. Maybe during down-time, shop owners, clothing makers, animators, and others can arrange to have an item or few on display with a link to their stores. Sort of a virtual window shopping and business index that pops up when the other settings go away. It's feasible. Heh... While typing this, I already got one convention booked. I guess this is going to happen now. ![]() _____________________

Wow! I had exactly the same idea as you, Tiger, about auto-rezzing event seating, stages, pedastals, ect. A totally configurable building. I can't wait to see this.

Well, it's a great build (from the photos), I wouldn't axe it even if it doesn't find a use right away. It reminds me a bit of the botanical gardens here in Washington DC right across from the Capitol bulding. Uh... which they seem to have torn down since the last time I was there....

The building is starting to come to life as I add examples of invited Second Life artisans' work about the place. So far, there are two of Cubey Terra's planes suspended from the glass roof in Air & Space Museum style, and an unfinished underwater display with one of his small subs.
I've asked a number of the "big names" (as I know them) if they'd like to display something. I'll be asking more as soon as I get the first exhibits installed. This is not the true purpose of the building, however, it's just something to make the space interesting when events aren't being held there. These displays will de-rez when the building is in use, and come back when the event is over. They'll eventually be fitted with landmark-distributing info placards. But... I've only had the one half-planned event idea "booking", so this project may be short-lived. We'll see. I think it could be fun, though. Any other interested parties? (Or interestING parties?) _____________________

After it was built, I DID get a sort of deja vu that it reminded me of the Contemporary Hotel at Walt Disney World... The one the monorail runs through, yeah.

Start a cult, Tiger!

With a build like this, Tiger you need to start a cult! It's easy, make up a religion, make up some uniforms with some silly prim-based hats (pyramids, tinfoil, whatnot). Make a few BVH files of secret gestures and you're on the way!
Don't axe this thing, what are you thinking of? It's gorgeous! Lumi _____________________

The "cenvention center" building is in my pocket for now. I'm moving all my land alloc in Kojin over to Celadon where the game dev contest prize land is, so that it's all in one place. Look for new things there in the near future.
For now, I've parceled up the Kojin land for sale priced to offset the land I bought in auction yesterday in Celadon. Had to tier up to $125/mo to do it all, too. I hope it sells before the 26th, or I'm going to have to pay $125 for two months. ![]() (I'll build a small shrine to the "Cult of the Wooden Prim" in Celadon, but only the worthy will find it. ![]() _____________________

OMG sign me up for the Cult! w0000
yes great build... the convention center idea is a good one. I have been so busy exploring and meeting people this past month I haven't yet allowed my building creativity to blossom in here yet (plus I need more land more land more land!) And considering what a prolific builder I was in AW that's just crazy - I gotta get the 'building bug' in SL! But pretty much everything I've seen so far by Tiger is awesome! (Any updates on Timeplunge 2 ETA yet?) The idea kinda reminds me of a Conference Center I made back in Activeworlds. I had an art gallery on the bottom floor, and the rest was various styles of meeting places, from a large "forum" style lecture hall, to medium sized conference rooms complete with whiteboards & picture displays, and also an outdoor bar area for more informal meetings. Here's some screenshots: ![]() ![]() ![]() Peace and Happy Building! Artillo _____________________

Aviary
08-20-2004 06:44
You should throw a bunch of trees in there and some exotic birds. It would make a great public aviary. Just need a few benches and maybe a waterfall inside.
