Awsome pic Ariel Roentgen..

Me and Jimmy where talking this morning about the large amount of people who have show interest in the Field of Dream system and we would love to see more pics of your garden set up. Please post pics here as we would love to see them. Also if you have already gotten a version of Field of dreams. Please feel free to share them with your friends as well.

What if you had two particles per spot and just had them animate at alternating times?

Agree, I made the decision to seperate the emiter to get more control on the seed distribution, this way you can have all red flowers on one side, and blue flowers on the other. But your suggestion is good.

Control-Alt-T will hilite transparent objects.

Exactly what I do for placing my emiters, always using CTRL-ALT-T.

From: Ariel Roentgen
hehe, took some pics using the emitter, this was the best one hehe

wow, didn't know my flowers could look this good! :)

I just saw this last night - it is so cool! Now my empty land is a field of greenery and flowers :)

Thanks Jimmy!

Just a thought, have them fade to 0.0 alpha and at least they won't blink out.

Yes, but they still "pop" into view, so flickering is still evident. As we do not currently have any way of fading a particle both in AND out, there is no way to remove flicker. The best I was able to do was make the whole field shift once every 30 seconds. You can see this effect on the north short of Abbotts, somewhere around (110, 210)

Control-Alt-T will hilite transparent objects.

In ordinary cases this may work, Zuzi, but have tried that in a field that is flooded with particles? Its red, totally red. What may work tough is setting the maximal number of displayed particles in the options menu to 0 and THEN (with no particle around) use ctrl-alt-t

too many particles? just use the debug function SHIFT-ALT-= to hide all the particle and find your emiters. ;)

Just a note
11-22-2004 20:58
Someone near my build used 4 of these, and Id have to say there too dense.
Makes my client fps drop to 1, lol.. My poor card cant handle the fillrate or
4096 textured paritcles, lol.. Am confused why its so dense by default, I lowered my particle count and it looked much better, in addition of getting my fps back up. Unfortunatly that means all my particle stuff dont look right, grr. Oh well, ive already talked to the person and think we can work it out, but just though you should know its causing problems for some. (he uses 4 patches of very dense flowers, id say each would use 4096(or more) particles!).

But in general is a nice idea :)

Hi CrazyMonkey Feaver!

hehe, next time I'll place a tag on it 'Handle with Care'!

If your neigboor is killing your SL experience, I suggest to tell him that there is a setting for the 'density' of the field in the Control Panel script. Good luck! ;)

Anyone got any nice suitable grass textures they'd like to share? The one built into the game (with a long key) isn't transparent so is a bit 'poppy'.. any others kind enough to denote?

to get a good effect put the script on two prims about 5m appart. Then another prim another 5m away can have a rotation script. Link them all up so the grass prims spin around as one prim rotates.. the grass gets thrown about quite nicely then.

Thanks jimmy :)

You can see this in action at the south side of Navora.

Pirate - I'd be happy to drop a couple in you inventory this weekend. I have tropical and standard as well as flowers so I'll drop one of each off to you.

Once you have the field up and running, do you have to leave the control panel up or can you remove it?

take the control panel back into inventory once you have picked the three plants you want the emiters to run :)

Clifftop vegetation !
12-06-2004 11:25
I love the scenes of lush vegetation this is producing - my experiments are a bit less adventurous, but with a single set of emitters so far, it has enabled me to capture some SL scenes somewhat reminiscent of the Cornish coast in England, something rather beloved to me. I've added them below. Thanks Jimmy - this is a great tool :)

How lovely :-) Really nice thing you did, Jimmy :-)

Would somebody be interested help me to deploy this on my land? As you know I have huge inventory of for-sale land and always liked idea of making it look nicer, sometimes planting trees and such. With Jimmy's idea and realtor land holdings I think we could turn big part of SL into nice lovely meadows, couldn't we? :-)

Sure. Sounds good. I think it would be a good idea to give the emitters as part of the deal with the land, so ppl can keep their nice meadows and flowers and such.

IM me in world tonight. I should be on hopefully 6 pm SL time.

Since the 1.5.9 update, it seems that my particle field (at Tol Galen, Dacia SE corner) is only visible at virtually point-blank range. From a distance of even a few metres, I just cannot see it anymore. Has anyone else noticed this with these particle effects elsewhere ?

I dunno if mine's broken, or if something has changed in the client to cut the view distance on particles.

Um, they DO lag
12-23-2004 13:49
I dunno if anybody's mentioned this or not, but the earlier statement of "these produce no lag" isn't exactly true.

there have been a few places I've visited where the grass/flowers placed lagged me down so badly that I was getting frame rates of barely 1. most especially Vindi's anti-junkyard.

I have an extremely fast system and experience little to no other client lag in most places, even some of the less-yucky clubs. however around these things, especially land utilizing more than one, the system slugs around so much that it doesn't even look like realistic grass, I only see it popping in and out of existance infrequently.

now I'm not saying that the effect isn't beautiful and impressive and gorgeous, because I tried it out myself, but all talk about "grassy flowing meadows" aside, these things do seem to attack at least my client-side lag, and we've got enough of those things in SL already don't you think?

How Do I Remove the Emitters ?
01-31-2005 21:44
I misplaced the flower field. How do I get it off the land ? Sorry, I know this must seem a simple question to all of you, but the emitters are now invisible. I can't relocate them using tranparency, all i see are fields of all red. Please help ? Thanks :)

go into edit and click and drag on some empty ground. you'll get a big yellow selection box. drag it over your land and you should highlight any invisible objects in yellow.

Any answer to this problem? I use the Fields a lot, but they're invisible unless you're almost on top of them. And, oddly, particles from other generators (I have a smoke generator for my fireplace) are visible from much longer distances.

I've seen worse. At least she put some effort into the asian-themed signs.

geez, how come all I have around my wonderfull little first land plot are ugly for sale signs, I don't mind advertising but at least do it creativly. I don't think Ms. Chung is as tacky as the no talent hack who has the big generic for sale cubes (see pic or link).

http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=2934&Name=daz+Groshomme

these cubes should not be allowed as it is tacky, ugly and crass. I feel angry at my view being crapped on with that garbage. There are plenty of ways to advertise land for sale without polluting the view.

Oh BTW, the groovy art cube is mine....
