Thanks cross, but no dice. It tilts the object, and then spins on the world axis anyway.
Any other ideas?

Demonstration setup :
I created a demonstration setup that will allow you guys to see my prototype in action. The system will be available to public starting this friday (nov. 12). I posted a first look of the result on the Bedazzle website. The setup include a configuration panel allowing the user to create tons of different possiblities. All the source code of this demonstration setup will be open to public. Generating vegetation textures: The harder part of this visual effect is to create convincing textures. I know that its not an easy job to find this kind of materials so I'll create soon (next week) a tutorial explaining how was create the texture of this system. (but Alias Maya will be required!) Also I'll offer to the public some (4) textures to make your experimentation (grass, rose, bush, lily). Cross Lament : Thank you for this idea, I'll update my system using your idea. _____________________

Thank you, Jimmy, for the coolest idea since sliced bread. You rawk.
![]() You know what's really cool? If you make the grass high enough, then walk through it in mouselook mode, the grass 'falls away' from you as you walk forward, as if you were pushing it aside. How's that for an unexpected bonus? ![]() _____________________

This sounds like a landmark achievement that could literally change the face of SL - can't wait to see a proliferation of lush grassy meadows and wild flowers waving in the breeze ^_^
I'll be giving it a go, but have little spare time and scripting expertise right now, so my prospects for success are not great, lol. Consider me to be one customer waiting in line for a distributable release of this wonder-device ! |

can't wait to see a proliferation of lush grassy meadows and wild flowers waving in the breeze ^_^ Don't expect movement until we can animate particles, create our own objects that act like trees on the client side, or come up with some other alternative. _____________________

The Field of Dreams demonstration is now ready and open to public. You will find a teleportation point in the Gravity Space Station in Sim Quest.
The system is open source and free for all, to get your free copy of the system (including 16 texture and all source code), plz send an IM to Foxy Xevious. Note : we can't offer technical support inworld, plz post your request/question here. Extract of the read me : This system was made as a prototype to evaluate the capacity of particles system to produce convincing high quality field of vegetation. All started with a tutorial I posted on the 'Building' section of the Second Life official forum. After getting many issues with the permission system, the Bedazzle team decided to release everything to the public including the 16 high resolution vegetation texture that was made for the prototype. _____________________

Is there a setting we should set our video too? I find the field of dreams is constantly shifting / appearing / disappearing

Hmm, well you could animate them by setting the life to a low value and adding a new particle field for each frame. But it would be a horrible kludge

I find the field of dreams is constantly shifting / appearing / disappearing Blaze, the maximum life time of a particle is 30 sec in SL, its a limitation that imply that we have to replace every particles over and over. Nothing is perfect, and there is no away to have a 100% flickering free system! _____________________

Just a thought, have them fade to 0.0 alpha and at least they won't blink out.

11-15-2004 22:22
Hi gang! Jimmy awesome! Absolutely incredible. For a non-scripter type like myself, I have to say "thank you" for creating such a wonderful thing for me and my buddies to enjoy! =)
Now my newb question - I clicked the balls to make them dissapear and now I can't find them! DOH! How do I get them to reappear again? ![]() Thanks in advance for the help. Zippy |

ROFL happend to me too! I then just walked a search pattern and then searched the places where I stumbled over something unseen. Found all nine emitters again.
You could add a a listener that would make the spheres visible on voice command. I will see if I can make it work when I have time. Currently my inworld-work-schedule is full Till Stirling _____________________

What if you had two particles per spot and just had them animate at alternating times?

Jimmy, this is wonderful. Such a hoot... DrZippy, Lecktor, HoseQueen and I had a lot of fun with it today.
![]() I am wondering, however: is there any way to replace the textures with ones of one's own choosing? I tried to delete the old textures and put in new ones with the same name, but all it rezzed was a white, foggish type cloud. Thank you very much in advance, and my kudos to you on such a fantastic, elegant piece of work. Nice to see it highlighted at Gravity. ![]() _____________________
